    should I be concerned to calibrate soundcard IF I am merely trying to measure my rooms acoustics via REW ...
    My goal is to mix with best stereo image in the room -and Ive treated the room well with Corning 703 panels.
    Ive borrowed an ARC 2 mic, got the REW ware and it suggests to set a in/out loop to calibrate soundcard. I have an RME UFXII as prime
    clock and source, which is (also my audio interface)..... So, do I need to skip soundcard step? Guess Im just lost on the routing chain...

Otherwise I have an old blue yeti and more recently the mix pre 6 II and the sennheiser mkh 416 for voice recording. Any omnidirectional XLR microphone with a relatively flat frequency response will do! Really - any microphone will work for experimentation and some tests. You just need to remember to factor the microphone's frequency response into the equation...

    You say that you have to connect the output of the SUT to input 1. But if I'm testing headphones I don't have an input and an output jack, just plug into whatever i wanna hear. I don't know how to move on from this step

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 года назад

      To test headphones, you’ll need a microphone that captures the output of the headphones. That microphone will connect to input 1.

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  Год назад +1

      Theoretically the center would be superior. But so long as the system is properly phase aligned, that slight offset doesn’t make a large difference. As humans, we struggle to localize the origin of low frequencies as effectively as higher frequencies.

    • @AudioUniversity

      One of the best features of Smart is the phase scope for aligning sections of the PA system. I’m not sure if REW has a live phase graph like that.

      @@AudioUniversity If you're looking for a free software to use that functions as a two-channel analyzer like SMAART, I'd go with Open Sound Meter. How to connect umik-1 usb with focusrite?

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 года назад

      I don’t believe you can connect it to the Focusrite (or any audio interface). I prefer to use an XLR mic for this reason.
      You will probably need to select the mic instead of the audio interface, but I expect that might eliminate the possibility of a reference signal.

    • @AudioUniversity

      That profile isn’t loaded into the Focusrite interface. It requires a software like Sonarworks or some other processor in the signal chain.

    What do you mean by an audio interface and how is it connected to your computer? Why is your audio interface made up of two devices or is it one device where you are showing front and rear? Can the microphone be connected to the computer? Sorry for being so dense but so far the explanation makes no sense. I have an amp with no microphone input but it does have pre amp line in and out, a computer, and I wish to measure the frequency response of my speakers.

Quite a few different pairs actually, ALL of which I've gotten at thrift stores for under about $20/pair.
