Hands down the best deleted song ever from a Disney film. I'm glad we got Prince of Egypt (really glad), however it's a tragedy we lost this and Stephen's other songs for Mulan because of it.
Aww, I wish they still contributed this to the animation somehow! Even if only in the soundtrack or something. It has such a beautiful melody and lyrics :)
You can tell this was written by Stephen Schwartz; has the same pop feel to songs from Wicked, for example Nice song though; not as good or special as Reflection
I actually prefer it. I remember hearing the demo of it when "Fa Mulan" was announced--and I was so disappointed to hear that Schwartz had left the project (rumour was due to working with Dreamworks and the controversy there). But yes it's typical Schwartz--down to that rolling piano something he's used since Godspell and Pippin.
I think it would be fitting to play this on building the climax. I mean i feel the melody send us intense courage then filled our lungs with air in order for us to shout our dedication for heroism. You know what i mean?
