If you are a male with longer arms, the 5th position rotation is also needed to get the arm and elbow away from the body. Your body will keep you from rotating your elbow for the A and E strings.

Hi Steve, Sevcik's Preparatory exercises in Double stops would work well, as it has exercises in all types of double stops including Octaves in different positions. Happy violin practising!
I have one question Ma'am. When i try to play at the very end of the fretboard, in case of A and D strings, the strings get so much depressed that no matter at what plane i bow i always touch the two adjacent strings to it. E.g. if i play in A string i end up bowing E and D string. How to solve it ? Should i bow very close to the bridge ? Because i jave noticed in that place the string doesn't get depressed that much. But then again if i bow there i mean close to bridge then the sound becomes aweful 😅 Please help Ma'am
Hi Saziz, it seems like your bridge might be in a very flat shape. When the bridge doesn't have a clear arch shape, it can be hard to play one string without touching other strings. If you like, ask a luthier to make a new bridge with a clearer arch. Or bowing near the bridge is certainly a quick solution, at least for now. I hope you can find a solution. Happy music making!
Hi Steve, unfortunately I can't answer your questions, as I haven't tried these bows myself. I offer violin and bow shopping consultation services where I show you how to test bows/violins yourself and what to watch for. If you are interested, please email to "topiaviolins@gmail.com"
We have to stretch the 4th finger in the 2nd position , because the highest note in the 2nd positions is C#. And we want to play one step higher note which is "D". Since it's a half step between the note C# and D, we can stretch the 4th finger to reach the note D. I hope this answers your questions. Happy practising!

Why do we have to stretch the pinky at the end of the second position as we are coming back?
