I remember reading the story when I was a child. It's beautiful but sad.

i know im a year late, but I love H.C Andersen (Hans Christian Andersen). I remember my mother reading the little mermaid in danish! keep reading him, you keep my childhood alive! Thank you so much, it's so nice to listen to it in english for the first time :D

My first exposure to The Little Mermaid was the Disney movie, so when I read the original fairytale after I was like “WTF?!? She died?!?”

Funny how much care the author takes to note how bright and colorful the undersea kingdom is-whereas the recent film adaptation is so murky and lifeless.
