No more L-1011’s, no more 727’s, no more DC-8’s, no more DC-10’s; MD-80’s, A300’s and 737-200’s are all but gone. No more TWA, America West, Continental, North West, US Air, AirTran, etc.. crazy, but at 49, 24 years ago seems like yesterday. Hard to believe all those planes and carriers are long gone.
The FedEx A300 N672FE shown in this video is still flying with them as we speak. Somehow one of the only aircraft in this video still flying along with the America West A319s which are still making money in the American livery and some of the Delta 757s. Even the Delta 777 is gone now.
@@PilotPlaygroundSims After reading your comment, I went and checked my assumptions: I’m shocked that over 1/3rd of the total A300’s produced are still in service (197 according to Wikipedia). I had no idea that FedEx and UPS alone account for 122 of those aircraft. I’ve always found the A300 to be an interesting plane, because (like the A320 family) it was very forward looking, out of necessity. I suppose, despite the ancient engines, the twin config probably makes them highly practical as a freighter for logistics companies. Hard to believe that the A300 entered service 50 years and 5 days ago. Also hard to believe almost none of its contemporaries (DC-10, L1011) are still in service.
I truly believe the best era of aviation was from 1970-late 2000s. Many airlines and iconic aircraft are gone. I’m so happy whenever new archive footage is released. I’m glad I got to experience some of this when I was young.
@@Laxa30 Of course you have to nitpick at my comment, you’re the third person this week to complain about a perfectly normal comment of mine. The time before the 70s was incredibly deadly as well and we don’t have a lack of plane crashes and incidents today even though less. So stop being a Debbie Downer, I said what was great about that era and you just had to look at the negatives. That’s when traveling became more affordable, flying longer and faster than ever before, the first wide body aircraft were introduced, Concorde was in service for most of that period providing supersonic transport, and many airlines and aircraft that got us where we are today are gone. So crashes discredit the accomplishments from that era? That logic makes perfect sense… Edit: Grammar & wanted to add the 70s & 80s was definitely deadly, but that generation advanced very quickly with tech and was racing to get more advanced in air travel. As awful as it sounds, crashes were expected as flaws were going to happen. Still tragic and those accidents should’ve never happened. With that, it’s understandable that aircraft like the DC-10 had a incredibly safer career, as most accidents after United Flight 232 were not due to the aircraft. Only issue was freighters bouncing after landing, which the MD-11 had. Anything from weather, maintenance, to bombings were responsible for the overwhelming majority of accidents. In 1983 I left for college and it was my first time leaving Hawaii. I was boarding a United 747 and I looked at that huge nose cone and was in awe that I was getting on one because as a kid that was always my favorite aircraft. Then it taxied to the reef runway and when I felt those thrusters kick in and that power, wow what a rush that was for me, it was just a total thrill.

From my own experience the golden age of commercial flying was from 1967- (the first half)1986. I say the first half because beginning in late '86 the first of several airline mergers took place where some legacy carriers disappeared altogether.
Hola 👋 volé en el año 1994 en un modelo de avión que tenía una entrada de pasajeros en la parte de la cola, sabrias que modelo estoy intentando recordar? Gracias
Wow!! Couldn't identify half of 'em!! Just MD-88s, MD-11s, 727s and I guess DC-10?? With the 4 big engines?? I think! I know I've seen DC-8s, but they have much smaller engines, like 707s!! 😊 I know this has to be old when you start seeing America West jets, damn, they're dinosaurs. 😮😅😅
I’d have to research but I’m willing to bet all of these are ILS approaches without an RNAV to be found. Gas was cheap, some 737s were still tiny and the world hadn’t changed yet.
Those were the best times of aviation , i can see only legendary planes , only USA made airplanes , with those elegant shapes very likeable to our eyes , that was the aviation that i felt in love with , very far from this new era airplanes , boring , silent , extremly computarized , and all of the with the same mass production cheap design !!

Classic McDonnell Douglas MD-80s and DC-10s. I miss seeing them. 😢
Some Md-80s are brought back from storage and few dc-10s are converted to tankers and the firefighting plane
DC-9’s are cooler tho

From my own experience the golden age of commercial flying was from 1967- (the first half)1986. I say the first half because beginning in late '86 the first of several airline mergers took place where some legacy carriers disappeared altogether.
I dunno those Emirates & Singapore First suites you see today look pretty unbeatable 😍 But yeah, old planes were cool (747, D10, 306, etc.)
30:46 Boeing 757 Aeroméxico
I got to fly on a 727 in 1999 on Delta, the plate said it was made in 1969…it was cool.
Hola 👋 volé en el año 1994 en un modelo de avión que tenía una entrada de pasajeros en la parte de la cola, sabrias que modelo estoy intentando recordar? Gracias
36:11 MD-87 Aeroméxico
I’m young now, so I’ll never know the scream and roar of the old engines. It’s honestly sad
Great video
Thank you!
Lol,and maybe he flew that Emory Stretch 8 before he flew the L1011.I haven't seen a Stretch DC8 landing on video in a while. Nice surprise!
I bet that 757 at 4:00 minutes is still flying
DC-8 Super 70 of BAX Global
Although my dad retired from Delta in 1991,I am pretty sure he flew every L1011 in this video as a L1011 Captain from 1980 till 1991.
Man! This was “Back in the Day!”
TWA MD-80 the last years of a legend airline.
I wish Airtran was still in business. Great discount airline.
727 and MD-80 double trouble 😢
Was flying MetroJet in/out of Atlanta that year.
In Europe 727 and 737 200 were rare sight in 2000, but not in USA.
Are those turbofan jet engines I hear occasionally?
Very diverse of airines back then, when the competition was great.
Beautifull old planes❤
damn i miss the tri engine jets lol they were so cool to see
Wow!! Couldn't identify half of 'em!! Just MD-88s, MD-11s, 727s and I guess DC-10?? With the 4 big engines?? I think! I know I've seen DC-8s, but they have much smaller engines, like 707s!! 😊
I know this has to be old when you start seeing America West jets, damn, they're dinosaurs. 😮😅😅
Cool seeing that 737-100😮
Back when jet engine sounds still have character
Not much has changed in 24 years compared to other airlines. Still alot of those 757s flying through ATL.
Can you make a video at KLIA ( Kuala Lumpur International Airport)
JT8Ds ruled the skies back then!
fantastic
Is AirTran still around?
no, long gone
36:58 moon shot
This with Jerry from @BigJetTV doing the commentary is what dreams are made of
I’d have to research but I’m willing to bet all of these are ILS approaches without an RNAV to be found. Gas was cheap, some 737s were still tiny and the world hadn’t changed yet.
12:56 Northwest bae 146
Sadly I've never gotten to fly on an MD 90. Delta should go back to the old cheatline livery.
Wow great view
Anyone knows when exactly this was in 2000?
That in between Delta livery 🙈😂
Those were the best times of aviation , i can see only legendary planes , only USA made airplanes , with those elegant shapes very likeable to our eyes , that was the aviation that i felt in love with , very far from this new era airplanes , boring , silent , extremly computarized , and all of the with the same mass production cheap design !!
sad to see so many Airlines not in service anymore
I Flew on Some Classic Mcdonnal Douglas AIRLUNE
😂 WELL IT WAS. Peidmont Airlines. 1960to. 1980 , 89 😊
34:45 Boeing 727 Allegro
epik
Delta l1011 are cool🎉
Vintage 🛫 Lockheed Tristar . Boeing. McDonald Douglas. Airbus 😊
What about all that smog, looks like It could be in India or China
KLM + Boeing 767, Northwest + Bae-146? Odd combinations
“critter”…..
You could almost count on one hand how many airbus were in this video.
Every one of those MD-11 landings make me nervous......
I see Airtran never once changed their livery.
Delta Airlines, Delta Connection major hub.
Back when Delta had 3-4 different liveries, confusing us all
It's so cool to know that I was on one of those L-1011s out of Atlanta in 2000!
Hell yah
I remember how ugly were the old Delta liveries back in the day. they had like four at the same time
Delta has always had an ugly livery
The widget that lasted through the 80s was my favorite
❤❤❤❤❤
talk about MEMORIES !!!!
And Lufthansa still brings their a340-300 to ATL 😆
Rip airTran
A lot of treestars TriStar they're all gone
Only 1 aircraft in this video wearing the same livery in 2024!
L1011!!!
