I believe the unpainted AA livery (which saved hundreds of pounds of paint) was abandoned when the 787 and 350 were introduced due to their composite materials.
A few nice catches. Lots of 747-200 / 300s. JFK was 747 land at the time. The aborted (?) landing is a Finnair MD-11 OH-LGC, likely the one later in the video. Nice to see the Concorde. And the Aeroflot IL-86. Quite a few DC-10s and MD-11s. The AA metal livery was nice. The Saudia Arabian 747-300 HZ-AIO seen at the end, was written off after being taxied into a ditch in Kuala Lumpur. Pity that on most airplanes it's almost impossible to see the registration.
@@motsumilioness Seems to be a 400, it has winglets. Air France did have an F-GETA 747-400 in its registry, and all the letters I can grasp seem to point to that one(the penultimate letter is a blur). The footage is pretty bad in resolution and focus, as usual at the time. The AF Cargo one seems to be a 100 or 200. Alitalia did not have 300s, only 100s and 200s. It's always hard with 747s as many had physical changes that make them seem something they're not.
Do you plan on releasing your Portland spotting footage from 1997? I remember seeing a preview of it years ago, but I'm very excited to see the full version here!
How is nobody mentioning the wreckage from TWA 843?? 🤯 That’s insane footage. Great video and loved hearing The Price is Right in the background during the Tower Air footage from the terminal 😅
Great video. In the 80's and 90's it was all about the 747. I used to go to JFK back then and watch the landings and take offs. Looking now 80 percent of these airlines no longer exist as do the planes. I am wondering if that EL AL Cargo that landed was the same one that crashed in Amsterdam after take off.

Now that's a lot of 747s!
When etops was at an early stage
I will say, AA’s chrome livery did stand out back then. It’s no wonder so many older aviation enthusiasts loved it so much.
The double A and the eagle on the tail is spectacular.
@@rogernasiols Indeed it was, even though I like big vibrant flag better on the current tail better.
Aeroflot IL-86 is one of the most exotic visitors in JFK!
Same with that Aeroflot IL-76 cargo plane 🤯
When the US actually had a brain including Russian commercial jets
Compressor stall on Engine 2 at 16:00 on the Swissair 747-300!
57:05 Boeing 767-300ER (Egyptair, reg. SU-GAP, crashed in 1999 in the Atlantic Ocean)
Yea and the saudia 747 shown after it has a nose accident,if you don't believe me search the registration
The co pilot made it crash, No one saw it as a warning sign
Eygptair 990
@@user-hj1tq3el9s : The causes of the EgyptAir Flight 990 remain disputed to this day.
Incredible to see so many 747s and DC-10s! Not to mention now defunct airlines seen in this footage!
Fascinating how Lufthansa, Korean and Singapore still have the same livery 30 years later! Timeless...
Good old days of JFK nice memories of TWA
The one and only 747!
Stunning old planespotting video!!! ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
Thanks for the memories!
Lots of 747s
I miss the 90's flying. It wasn't long after this that we started to see the 2 engine takeover.
I believe the unpainted AA livery (which saved hundreds of pounds of paint) was abandoned when the 787 and 350 were introduced due to their composite materials.
That Il-86 making a very smooth landing at 7:14 was a rare treat!
I miss Mexicana airlines with their neat paint schemes in their tail sections. Its not the same when they revived it recently
Really appreciate these videos you post.
Me too
Thank you very much!!

Was Air France a 300 or 400? The 400 first flew in 1988 so it fits the time. Alitalia looked like a 200. I know the 200 and 300 don't have winglets.

that tower air jet took me to Korea in 1986 for Team Spirit , LN12 off the assy line.

TWA Flight 800
Can’t be TWA flight 800. That crash was in 1996, this footage is from 1993, plus it looks like a L1011 not a B747
Great Video
Thank you
@@justplanes You’re Welcome 👍
Iberia DC-10 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
IL-76 and Il-86! Rare birds
So many 747!!
Wish you had today’s high definition cameras back then!
Agreed on that! Was very basic in those days.
It was my first JP video in VHS format 👍✈️👋
Oh wow, cool, thank you :)
was that Swissair md11 HB-IWF 24:37?

In New York I milly rock
That KLM 747-400 came in hot! HAHAAHAH
It’s not a 400. That’s a 747-200SUD. KLM had their -200s remodeled by Boeing to add the stretched upper deck of the -300.
I flew to JFK in that old girl from Ireland at 22:04
47:35...the wreck of TWA 843.
What happened to the TWA L1011?
Look up (TWA flight 843)
Sabena 🥲💔
Back when the air was clean and the jets were dirty
you could have not start with a better airline: ALITALIA still in my mind...
