Smart cover has magnets inside. iPad is made to interact with magnets.
No, magnets only affect traditional magnetic storage (spinning hard drives, tape etc). The storage in most handheld devices is flash based which is not affected by magnetic fields.

Magnets don't effect LCD, OLED, AMOLED, or plasma screens in the same manner as CRT (tube) screens. The effect is due to the electrons path being altered by magnetic field changes.
Or get the 17 dollar amazon one that comes with refills and metal marbles to play with

Because putting high powered magnets close to the electronics you love is the best idea ever.
magnetic storage is not an issue with tablets. the stylus is safe. just be aware that some tablets can be forced into "dock mode" (nothing serious, just an inconvenience), or apps that use a magnometer will go screwy until restarted.
Wouldnt that stylus be a little risky to use at touchscreens? because of the magnets that are so close to the screen?
Go to Kick starter website and search for Polar Pen, all the Nov 2013 orders have been sold out and the next delivery stage is Feb 2014. 40$ CAD is the cost of one pen which includes stylus and pen function.

That's still really close to the rest of the electronics for such strong magnets. Imagine dropping it, or it rolling on the table, and attaching to your tablet or phone.

i heard of usb-sticks that got unusable because they were held in a pocket alongside magnets
Nope, flash memory will be unaffected by it; it does not use magnetism to store data. However, HDDs (The ones with the spinning disks inside that make a lot of noise) will be erased, because they store data using magnetism.

Only things with magnetic components which are typically older technology that's no longer in use like CRT televisions and magnetic storage devices. These days we use LCD and flash storage.

Magnetic drives are sensitive to magnetism, things like floppy's, tapes and spinning hard drives. tablets normally use flash memory which isn't affected by something like this.
The magnets are made out of the same metal as the ones used for the Ipad covers. Perfectly safe to use on your electronics.

What LCD screens have you been using? I've never had an issue with that.
Great product with poor post-sales support. I ordered my pen in March and till now have not received my order.
Magnets have the potential to interfere with oscillating coils. Depending on the phone and frequency shifts, you could be completely fine but I would generally advice against keeping this pen in the same pocket as your smartphone, for example.

It's exactly like the magnetic covers for the iPads. Nothing could go wrong.

Great! The question is, how heavy is it? To write with it the whole day long...How strong are the magnets? Because all the iron in your blood will gather in your fingers...Are there any replcement parts? Because if you play with it the whole day long, and you loose one part...

It would be really cool if the back of the pen had an opening to stick the stylus part into when you aren't using it as to not lose it.

Just to the magnets strenght - it is enough, when you swallow them separately and they get to your intestine serately and then connect two parts of it through wall of intestine, it is enough to damage it, just by the pressure.

Won't using a pen out of magnets on your ipad cause damage to it?
no as long as the item u put it near doesn't have a hdd it will be fine. things like tables and phone that use flash would be safe.
Also, isn't putting a magnet close to an ipad screen potentially destructive? Try putting a magnet up to your monitor, or don't if your not ready to break it.
