  • The High Line is probably my favourite thing to do in New York City. It is, at least, my favourite FREE thing to do in NYC, and that's why I can recommend it to anyone who visits New York. Hope you enjoy this video.

This opened like 5 years ago. The part where you say you can see the span that used to hold up the tracks - that part was built after. There were never tracks there. It ran in a near straight line. You may want to research this a bit.

I am happy to say that I never want to go to NYC, but that walk seems to be a very pleasant outing.

Love the High Line! Used to work across the street from Chelsea Market so I used to go to both places a lot! Plus, there's a subway station right at 14th St and 8th Avenue for the A, C and E lines, so it's a piece of cake to get there from both Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station!
And Dan, I love all your content! I visit Montreal whenever I can!

The Highline was an actual train line that carried freight to downtown processing plants.. The last train ran in 1980. It then sat neglected and overgrown until the 'Highline' park was created in the early 2000s. Originally developers wanted to tear it down but saner heads prevailed.

I picked up a few books detailing its neglect and visionary preservation efforts. Surely, at the time, it seemed like a nuisance or worse to landowners and developers. Coming from a much newer city further West and North of New York, it just adds to the mystique of a multilayered megalopolis already steeped in history. It's seen more than its fair share of tragic losses, yet you could fool me each time I've been entreated to a visit!

I’m not a camera expert but this lens and camera’s video look so good. It looks soft (like softer edge filter). Visually pleasing. Images looks so good and also this is perfect mm size.

Last visited in 2015. The Highline had been newly opened as a linear walking park on the infrastructure leftover from the abandoned West Side Elevated Train Line. Looks like you began your tour at the horseshoe-shapped portion at Hudson Yards and all its buildings, not yet open 9 years ago.

Hey Dan. Great to see your mom in a video with you. I was born in NY. Not Manhattan but boring Queens near JFK airport. I haven't been back in a long time. NY seems to reinvent itself every ten years or so. I remember when Times Square had zero tourists because it was too dangerous. Looking forward to the next NY videos. 😊
