  • In today’s video, I address if low carb or no carb OK for Hashimoto’s. Lots of people have questions about this topic, such as "Does low carb help to lose weight?” or "How many carbs should I eat with Hashimoto’s?” It is important for me to share that - well - all of this depends! And, yes, in some people, in some cases, too little carbs may be a bad idea for long term support of thyroid function. Tune in to this video to find out why!

I have SIBO plus the Hashimoto plus possible other autoimmune. I found the FODMAP elimination diet helped me reset plus I found what foods my body doesn't tolerate which is what causes autoimmune by not digesting in the gut. Thank you for your great videos.

I was told a while ago that my thyroid was slightly enlarged, and that I have the thyroid antibodies present in my blood. Referred to an endo but never went due to losing insurance shortly thereafter. I still have not gone to an endo, but what I will say is that when I did keto for about 11 months, I felt the best I have ever felt in 29 years of my life. And to this day I regret stopping it. I went on a cruise last summer and all of the junk food for a week really threw me off. I still havent been able to get back on the keto train. Now hearing that it may not be good for me is confusing..

You bring up a good point that for some, depending on circumstances and also genetics, keto DOES work. However, it is not often the best LONG TERM solution for health with Hashimoto's. I often suggest keto as a way to kick-start better eating habits, reduce inflammation and promote weight loss. But, after a while, it is good to start to move to more of a health-supportive diet and that includes gluten free whole grains and/or complex carbs from starchy veggies.
      Thanks so much for watching!

Think about it for a second and you should realize anyone saying keto in any shape or form is BAD or ever unhealthy (this is how we are for centuries before processed carbs came around)...should not be listened to. And this comes from a guy who eats 6-700g carbs a day for months when bulking up. Keto is VERY sustainable and just absolutely more healthy(get bloodwork to confirm if you’re nervous, cholesterol, etc)

As long as it's not Keto at all. Keto isn't good for anyone for long-term basis, but instead of eating 80-150g carbs is better. In hashimotos your thyroid need those carbs.

Do you know if carbs, sugar and hives are related due to hashimotos . I seem to get hives after eating potato or heat palps after eating white bread .

I would look in to histamine issues with hives after certain foods...Histamine is an important part of immune function. Interestingly, research suggests that irregular histamine activity such as histamine intolerance may play a significant role in the development and continuation of autoimmune disorders; specifically, Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Thank you for watching!
