I always love the techniques you use. My Mum actually loves your channel, and she ended up becoming a carpenter and building her and my Dad's dream house! Thanks, Bob
Very cool Bob! I especially like the design you did and that the center is left plain wood. Cool how some angles of the box make it appear like a perspective drawing of a wooden building like at 5:16
I Like To Make Stuff Yeah, those lines turned out remarkably well, I'll have to let my mom know, as she makes things like this all the time, but can sometimes have difficulty getting them so crisp
If you are doing it on a wall, lay down a coat of the original colour of the wall(whatever you have under the tape) and it'll do the same but don't be a different finish
Haha! “Yeah. You could, but that’s not really what this channel is about.” That was great, and always needs to be your closing statement. Totally dig all of your projects.
Really like the way you cut your rabbet. Never seen it done that way. Plus you didn't realize it ,but you just taught all us men how to wrap a Christmas gift too. Thanks
Good stuff Bob. I like the sentiment about making stuff for yourself. If you want the same plastic box everyone else has, that's great. However if you want something that is your own, I Like To Make Stuff is a great place to start. Keep up the great content.
That came out pretty cool, Bob! Never thought I'd think hanging file folders were cool, lol. I've actually been needed to make one but was hung up on the rails. You solved that problem for me though. Thanks!
Your channel is the reason why I want to buy a house so, I can build stuff. I loved the box. Making your own stuff gives it a special meaning. Thank you :)
masking tape over the gap in the saw insert makes a make-shift zero clearance insert....probably not the best but it works and is basically free. Love the vids, Bob!
You only used the table saw, miter saw, rubber mallet, corner and normal clamps, super and yellow glue, no nails or screws, painters tape, spray paint and clear coat. This is really cool. Hope you can do more vids from your dad's workshop, pleaseeeeee.....!!! Tnx for sharing it man!!!
Nice clean lines. That method that has always worked for me when painting on very porous surfaces like stucco and OSB. 1. Paint base coat. (can be clear poly) Let dry. 2. Mask off area you want to remain as the base color. 3. Paint the base color again over all the tape edges where your two color meet. (this fills in any gaps under the tape) Let dry. 4. Paint your secondary color. 5. Peel the tape while your paint is very wet, or wait until fully dry and score your tape lines with a blade.
Frog Tape is the best for painting and getting clean crisp lines without having to paint over the edge of the tape to prevent bleed through. I've used it for years, tried others and they just don't do the same. Nice project, Bob.
Nice video as usual! Just made me think about the folder box I did lately but with two wooden wine boxes, one for 3 bottles and one for 6 bottles. I really like to use those as they are mostly free and usually have nice wood grains.
I love it. Especially the clear cost trick for the lines. On my son's room I painted lines on the walls and I used Vaseline and it worked perfect. I'm really into making boxes now and I'm definitely gonna steal a few of your ideas ;-)
Suggestion for paint bleeding under your masking tape: I use a 4" flexible putty/drywall knife to go over the tape edge. It generally gives a good seal to the surface. Looks like the fingernail and clear coat method worked pretty well on this one though. Dan
Just a heads up if you want to make multiples of these. Normally file box dimensions are set so that they will fit letter sized folders in one direction or legal size in the other direction in case you ever wanted to use legal size in one of your boxes.
Well done mate!. There is something usually grind my gears: Protect with tape part of the box and cover with paint, when you remove the tape there is always a thin line of open paint, and i don't know how to make it disappear
5:01, Bob says he only used the table saw, but on 3:04 he used the mitler saw. Not complaining Bob, just mentioning a point....awesome project by the way, Nice but unusual paint job....
You could also cut the tops off of folders and then put pieces of paper that look like files in the folders. Glue all that together and then put secret stuff under there
"Its not what this channel is about". I loved that line, now a days people tend to buy stuff rather than build something they can take pride in. I'd rather say "Look, I made that weird file box. I could have bought a plastic one for 8 bucks, but I MADE IT" than to just get something via my money. I'm Luciano and I like to make stuff too.
I always love the techniques you use. My Mum actually loves your channel, and she ended up becoming a carpenter and building her and my Dad's dream house! Thanks, Bob
Absolutely LOVE the paint job! Those different angles are really cool, and I'm a sucker for gray.
agreed
quite
You've really got a knack for doing "how-to" videos. Not everyone can do it well but you explain and show everything very well.
Very cool Bob! I especially like the design you did and that the center is left plain wood. Cool how some angles of the box make it appear like a perspective drawing of a wooden building like at 5:16
it's interesting that you talk about all the different options people could choose to make there own. great job Bob.
That clear coat trick with the painter's tape just changed my life O_O
Excellent!

I can't believe how often you manage to upload, ideas just seem to explode out of your head!
Thanks for this Bob. Making a simple box is more important (and kinda challenging) than anyone every knows till the need to do it.
Really like the way you cut your rabbet. Never seen it done that way. Plus you didn't realize it ,but you just taught all us men how to wrap a Christmas gift too. Thanks

I like the paint, it adds a great character to it - Great project Bob

It looks great! And so much more pleasing to the eye than plastic! Wood is much better and I love the colors..
Quick build and easy to customize with handles, hinges or a locking mechanism. Great job!
Bob,
Love the paint job. Also love the tip about using clear before to keep colors from bleeding.
Your channel is the reason why I want to buy a house so, I can build stuff.
I loved the box. Making your own stuff gives it a special meaning.
Thank you :)
Thank you!!
Very nice Bob. Dead simple with a great finish. I also like the debrief at the end to give people more options and ideas. Keep it up.
Wow, that is a really cool plastic file cabinet... said no one ever. Nice job Bob!
Hahah, thanks!
Love the design and the paint job. Great tip with the clearcoat on the tape edges!
This is the best RUclips channel. Period.
Good job nice and clean. It's simple but the realisation is cleaver. Bravo
I like the Millennium Falcon shirt halfway through. Fun project!

Great video, appreciate all the suggestions at the end at how versatile the box is and the different ways to make it.
Pretty cool project! Awesome paintjob

Nice, homemade is always better than store bought! Cool project Bob
Awesome look with the clean cut paint!
always happy to see your projects...
you're blessed
😇😇😇
Thank you!!
+I Like To Make Stuff
it's my pleasure 😀
loved this tutorial as a student, and the paint job was pretty cool!
The form factor and paint job looks like it could be used as super compact computer case!
6:07 _"... But that's not really what this channel is about."_
so much the better!!
Yes, that line was perfect :D
im 14, i love making stuff with my dad. i once restored an old go kart.
that's awesome!
Awesome! I bet that was a fun project!
I Like To Make Stuff it was super fun. its on my dads channel (4speedskaters)
Looks good, and nice paint choices
I like it Bob, great idea with the lip.
Nice tip with the clear paint to seal the line. 👍🏼

Very nice. Love the paint job. i need some to get organised.
Impressive cuts to make that bottom work!
I have access to a big CNC, but having a tablesaw would make everything quicker. Those boxes are awesome.
Quick and easy project, very nice file cabinet. thanks for sharing.
Love the build :-) Purple goes great with those two colors btw
Great video and project Bob! In my experience, the green 3M painters tape prevents finish from bleeding better than the blue tape.
Mate...your OP t-shirt is just....sick....!!!!
Hope you could do a wood training course for beginners. Like from the basics to the magical things you do. Awesome work! Greetings from Mexico
I learned carpentry due to your video.
Thank you. Ask for more video!
Oh, and it reduces the studio very much. lol

Dan
Great project as always ! I'm trying to get my room organised so thanks a lot for sharing thus project !
amazing beautiful modern design!
Really like the paint pattern!
That paint job...next stop, Steve Ramsey purple! Great video Bob, hope we never see a store bought plastic box in the shop
Don't forget to add Matt Wandel Green to the mix.
Haha, now that you mention it I suddenly see a homemade bandsaw in the future
Or even paint it like The Slo-Mo Buys would, with Rust-Oleum and an axe.
Bit that's not what this channels about! Love it.
Love this paint job! Great ideea!
you can apply the same method and do lots of boxes for cubbies and closets etc... thanks for the video!
hey you know they sell those at the 99 cents store!! lol love seeing nice simple, useful projects! keep up the great work my friend! '
Never knew the clear coat trick. Thanks for that
Just a heads up if you want to make multiples of these. Normally file box dimensions are set so that they will fit letter sized folders in one direction or legal size in the other direction in case you ever wanted to use legal size in one of your boxes.
love the project and the paint job!!
Very cool paint job!
I like your shirt better than the box...lol very cool build sir, always look forward to your new videos!!
Nice!! liked the lid details! never go full Steve Ramsey!! :P (love you Steve)
Hahahaha!
I love the paint job👍🏽
really like the paint job
Well done mate!. There is something usually grind my gears: Protect with tape part of the box and cover with paint, when you remove the tape there is always a thin line of open paint, and i don't know how to make it disappear
Haha well said Bob! Love this channel!!!!
your videos are a joy to watch :) ❤
I love this project!
I really like the colors :)
Well done Bob
Nice build!
This would be easily modified to make a desk drawer or even a full filing cabinet. Thank you, Bob!
5:01, Bob says he only used the table saw, but on 3:04 he used the mitler saw. Not complaining Bob, just mentioning a point....awesome project by the way, Nice but unusual paint job....
Hey bob.... I'm just a student but i really find your videos very entertaining
This is beautiful
Somehow, all you do is make a box, and I still love the video 10/10 haha
Lol that sentence "added some glue to all the rabbits..." Thats my new quote
A simple box like that would be really cool for comics also.
Nice project Bob.
this is so relaxing waching your videos bravooo
Great stuff as always.
OH! A box for hanging files. I thought it was going to be a hanging box for regular files. This makes more sense. :P
great starter project
this is awesome. love your content
Neat project thanks for the tips at the end they are great
You could also cut the tops off of folders and then put pieces of paper that look like files in the folders. Glue all that together and then put secret stuff under there
Love the paintjob and there is no way we're buying some plastic box... we like to make stuff here. Let em know Bob! :D
Nicely done again Bob ;)
I love the fact that addressed the trolls Bob.
i don't really make these stuff but i find it so satisfying when you cut the wood lmao
You should try "fine line" tape in the future, it's an extra step but you will get nice clean lines that way without the clear coat step first
Cool file box
I really like that paint job... and anyone who complains about the project can just create the "I like to buy stuff at the office store" channel 🤓
This guy understands and you can get tons of scraps from stuff like this and then build another little project
i rather make one instead of buying one, and have fun making it your's came out great love you channel thank you.
Nice. Thank you for sharing.
