Yeah the NY accent still exists. but that 'desoyve' aspect of it is long gone for generations. I find it funny they just toss that in there for only a handful of characters but the rest of them just have normal NY/NJ Italian American accents.

When the writers know how to use him, he's one of my favorite villains. Sadly, otherwise good writers like Paul Dini just can't wrap their minds around him. You have to write Penguin like Richard III.
Oedipus means "swollen foot." This show does remind me a lot of the Marlo story from The Wire. Oswald is basically Marlo, the ruthless gangster who doesn't play by any of the old rules and goes around killing and causing chaos indiscriminately.
Imagine being named after an injury/disability and yet having your name go on to become far more recognizably synonymous with something even *more* embarrassing that happened to you.

I'm really liking the approach to worldbuilding they're taking with this version of Gotham. It feels like a return to form after the Batfleck movies (that largely stayed out of Gotham's local stuff to focus on the Justice League plot). It's giving me the same kind of feeling that Nolan's Batman Begins did back when it first hit theaters. Like the comics are coming to life in the real (sort of) world.
