- House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) strikes an optimistic tone as negotiations to avert a government shutdown continue. Asked by NBC News Capitol Hill Correspondent Ryan Nobles whether he believes the House could pass a CR bill, McCarthy says he’s, “a believer in everything.”

I said it at the time the House should have elected Marshall as Speaker. A character of good fidelity, sound standing and strong vocal projection with ability to work on either side of the aisle on an array of topics.

They could shut down most of the non-essential services and nobody would notice or care. Life would go on. Last time they did this, they made sure to shut down stuff that actually affected the public, like national parks and citizen services. Otherwise nobody was affected then either. And any laid off employees got full backpay after their free vacation anyways.

Almost 1 million troops. Maybe they can survive without one pay check. But if a government shutdown lasted over 30 day and they missed two then your talking disaster on a scale of biblical proportions. On top of that your still requiring them to work. And lets not even discuss TSA or Air Traffic Controllers. That could have a more lasting impact than weather cancellations.

Kevin McCarthy should’ve thought about this when he caved on the debt ceiling. Kevin McCarthy has had eight months to deal with this and he’s done nothing. Kevin McCarthy just figured it would work itself out instead of trying to work with the people who can help him work it out, I’m a federal government employee and I say shut the government down and balance a budget. We are giving too much money to Ukraine and not spending enough here at home.
