I kinda get Sasukes decision to destroy the village. After he killed his own brother, whom he believed to be evil incarnate, he learns that Itachi actually was protecting the village, and sacrificed so much. And nobody of the village-elders cared for him or what he had to go through. I can easily see somebody learning this and going into blind revenge-mode. Going against the WHOLE VILLAGE instead of just the elders though is over the top in any case imo.

The only times he failed were against Itachi in a way (because the entire was part of Itachi's plan), Bee, the 5 Kage (because he was unprepared, fighting alone most of the time, and Zetsu gave Taka's location), and Madara (but that man is a cheat code, everyone failed against him, even Naruto, Minato, Kakashi, Obito, Hashirama and 8 Gates Guy). And Sasuke had litteraly no reason to protect the Leaf. He never wanted to carry on Itachi's will, Itachi manipulated him his entire life. What was he supposed to do ? "You know what ? I will protect the village that destroyed my family, my life and that manipulated my brother. That seems to be the obvious thing to do..."
