Huge football fan, but The Ohio State Marching Band makes going to games more fun, exciting, entertaining and most of all, makes me proud to be born and bred in Ohio. To all of those who are in the Band.....past, present and future......thank you!! Go Bucks!! TBDBITL
One of the best, if not the best, memories i have of my time at The Ohio State University, was being nominated to Homecoming Court and being down on the 50 yard line for pregame. I still get goosebumps and chills when I recall how TBDBITL came out with that wall of sound and the drum major ran out on to the field...
Mad respect for all those who have marched, stand on the field today, and will continue the beautiful legacy. Standing at the 50 staring at the lights and crowd above will always and forever be one of my most dearest accomplishments. Without music and marching I wouldn't have taught myself ambition and drive.
I'm new to this, but Ohio State Marching Band and the other greats that I don't know, seem to have created an entirely new art and athletic form... perhaps it should be considered for the olympics or world games...demands athleticism, artistry and intelligence...some of those formations are quite complex and doing them while "sharing their oxygen" with the arts and non stop specified movements earns respect and admiration. British gal here, btw.
Im not sure if anybody will see this question but I will ask it anyway. Im in Australia and only just discovered this amazing band and tradition last week and have been binge watching eversince. However, I dont understand the significance of bending backwards and touching the ground......can somebody please enlighten me please.
Those of us who were "band nerds" loved our time in marching and concert bands. It was an enchanted time, but it was DECIDEDLY not "living my dream". If your highest aspiration was to be a drum major in a college marching band, whatever will you do with the rest of your life? You're in your early 20s--that gives you about 60 years or more of living your "glory days" as an OSU drum major with no other goals. That's not just sad--it's pathetic.
This young man, the Drum Major, has already accomplished more at age 21 or 22 than you ever will in your entire lifetime. Let all of us know the first time you ever have 105,000 people applauding you...

Not everyone goes there just for the Football Team. They go there to support Ohio State, whether they play football or are part of the band. The drum major, as he said, is one of the symbols of the state.
Man, its almost as if there are other things to do in life than run around in tights wearing protective gear and sling around a bunch of sweaty guys. Try not to eat too many crayons there, bud.
You want to see how a real drum major does it???? Look up UofM drum major they will show you how to do it right. Plus we will even teach you to script ohio back in the 1930s. Keep it up....
Because the fact that you all believe this is in anyway meaningful or significant let alone hard, running with a stick and twirling it a few times... it's sad.
Not a real marching band. Drumline using slings? High stepping? Drum major twirling a baton? What is this? A show band? Show me a corps style band. The right way to march and play.
Your definition of “real” marching looks more like walking to me. I’ve done both. High step military style is more physically demanding, and makes it harder to play well, which requires more attention to individual technique. It’s also a better system for learning all new music and drill for every game, which in my experience, most corps style bands don’t do, which is incredibly boring. Who wants to see and hear the same thing every week? They each have their places. It’s a college football game, not a DCI competition.
Matt brady go somewhere else and be rude. That’s not nice. I’m not an Ohio state fan but I am a fan of people and this young man has something wonderful to be very proud of.
My dad, Edward E. Maundrell was the Drum Major around 1941 or 42!
My dad, Richard L. Jones, was Drum Major in 1939 & 40. As a senior, he did some shows as a second Drum Major with your dad in 1941.
Chefm4477 , That is so cool!
Ralph Jones , This is so cool!!

Great piece. Makes me so nervous when that guy goes back to dip. Go Bucks!
What makes him better is he enjoys and gives his heart to this. It isn't just about talent and it shows
Love the band and totally respect your leadership and commitment to the moment. Every time! God bless and keep you Mr. MacMaster!
Cool video! High character individual..........life's lessons not wasted on this guy!

Bends into an o for Ohio
@@kathleenodonnell2206 oh !!!!!!! I never would have guessed that. Merry Xmas to you.
Wonce I saw the Ohio state marching band I wanted to play in that band.
I thought Edwin 'Tubby' Essington who was a drum major in 1920 was over 7 feet tall but I could be wrong.
Everything that is great about America is in the Drum Major and Im not even American lol
Phil Dunphy would be proud .
No Honor in doing, The "Koolest thing in the world" you have no idea! Stay in school!
1:40....chills

With out soldiers there would be no wars to fight. It is dishonorable that they are nessasary in this day in age.
Nah this is pretty great
Laniekea Nah, without soldiers, someone will make soldiers. Best be prepared when someone does that and threatens you
@@Admwings you must not understand. If somehow there was no one willing to fight left, there would be no wars.
Laniekea I understand, I was simply saying that, as history has shown, people will continue to fight.

Odd tradition, males who remain virgins do weird stuff like this.
Gerard Jones I don’t think they are actually “males”.
Ummmm drum majors get plenty of attention on a college campus. They are seen as athletes
This drum major stuff is so scarily weird. The whole American society is based on militaristic themes of violence.
What? do you take meds?
It would seem to me the honour would be to be one of the football players. Are you kidding me do you think all those people are there to see you ? Not
