Between when the announcer says "...and had it washed every now and then." AND "Who would know it was etc..." Is absolute proof that attention spans have dwindled. I was going f'n bananas! like deliver the damn line! lol
I had a 1955 which was my first car, it was fun to drive, but very poor heat and defrosters. I bought it in 1964 for $75.00. I put an additional $ 200.00 into it and it was a very reliable car.
how can i get the original vw bug snowplow commercial from the 1960s or 1970s/ it starts with the phone ringing in the middle of the night. it is my very favorite commercial of all time
I had a 64 Beetle and it was fun to drive but I live in Michigan where it gets pretty cold in winter and the Beetle had virtually no heater or defroster, the windows would ice over on the inside and you would freeze your ass off. They did have an optional electric heater of some kind but it didn't do much to heat the car when it's zero or below.
@big cheese .... I lived that life...and yes you are correct venting a bit on these air-tight cars helped get the original cold air out. The amount of heater air flow was also directly dependent on the engine speed ( using the cooling fan of the motor to provide most of the push...maybe later models had aux blowers, can't recall)....so keeping the car in lower gear helped. But let'e be honest here....an air cooled car won't have the heating capability of a water-cooled car. The gas heaters were sometimes fire hazards.
The heaters work awesome! If, they are in working order. Mine flat cooks you out. '64. Car is airtight. Owners manual says to crack a vent window open to draw the heat in. Cables need to be adjusted, bellows free of blockage ect.
Do you happen to have the commercial where they had the 2 special colors for the Beetle for 1969 I think? They showed both cars side by side, one was Chartreuse and the other was Fuchsia or Hot Pink. I would appreciate a link to the video if you have it. My company's color is Fuchsia and we just purchased a company whose color was Chartreuse, I'm trying to tell people that the 2 colors go together and we don't need to change anything. LOL
theirs only 3 things it can be timing off not getting fire with if its running thats not your problem or your not geting the gas you need i would go with that check the carb the fuel lines and filter make sure its getting the gas it needs to run right
+Alex Larson I guess your experience has been different. How may kms/miles has yours done? I personally have seen very few reliable modern Volkswagens even when people have maintained them.
All the people I knew have done oil changes etc when due and have never let their cars sit. They used them every day. I would like to know how many miles or kms you expect out of your cars or how many miles/kms you replace them at?
I own and have owned numerous vw,s and Mercedes/bmw and many other cars , German cars are incredibly reliable and easy to work on IF you know what you are doing and follow the maintenance schedule they put out. I always roll my eyes when people say German cars are unreliable. Almost all of them drive gm garbage that breaks down constantly and have zero clue what they are talking about. No offense
Such a Cool Video to Watch.. I Own a 56 Ragtop now. Beautifully Restored.
best classic car

I live the appalled look on the guys face when the gas meter reached $6.10 haha I WISH it was still that much
Don’t forget to adjust for inflation

He should have never suggested to make the rear window bigger.

The optional heater was gasoline powered....also a problem, but not with the amount of heat.....

I've owned 6 Beetles from the 60s and they all had excellent heaters
all except it lost the split rear window in the wash I had the '59

Excellent!
2:45: should you really be pulling the cap off a radiator emitting steam...? L.O.L.
Ahhhh back when Volkswagen made cars that did not break down constantly. Modern Volkswagens constantly break down.
They still broke, but the engine is very simple and easy to work on.
Mine hasn’t.
