- After 5+ years in the works, Project L FINALLY got its official name... 2XKO.
And well.. a lot of people aren't exactly loving it. Today we are going into some detail about the naming fallout - but ALSO getting into some other news that came outside of the Dev videos you might have missed!

Well everyone, it's been about a week since the name drop - Is it growing on anyone yet? And how we feeling about the other tidbits Riot has been dropping on social media?
Well, growing on me the same way a cyst would. I don't mind it anymore, I accept it in all of its ugly pustule filled glory. Just choosing to look forward to the roster reveals! (Bard, Blitzcrank, or Pyke anyone?)

Not really but we'll just have to get used to it. Everything else about the game looks awesome so I guess they had to get at least one thing wrong. I'd rather that thing be the name than actual gameplay stuff.
Not at all. The name is awful and, from a casual person's perspective, won't go over well with a general audience as it's just not catchy or even easy to say. Tekken, Street Fighter, Smash, all those are snappy and quick to say. Even longer named titles such as King of Fighters, Rivals of Aether, or Dragon Ball FighterZ have better "naming flow". I just hope that Riot realizes that the name needs further work.
I went from hating on the name, to thinking its actually pretty cool, its completely grown on me, its short and snappy, and the vibe is sweet
So much content coming in now, its so rewarding having been on the journey from the start. I'm sure the name will be accepted by time the game is out

Yea it's awesome to see so much coming out from the Devs! Finally feels like a real video game.
But yes also this. Street fighter 6 had really weird locking where it legit felt like I was playing people in like my tri-state area... lol But I think they actually just fixed this!
I kinda wish RIOT GAMES went full TEKKEN 8 MODE and released one trailer per week for 2 years straight, to generate hype around the game between the FGC, especially those who moved in to fightcade, and knows Jack about League.
Im hoping this is kind of the start of that! Even one new character trailer a month would be excellent, and it does seem like their intention is to be much more out in the open going forward so would be an excellent way to do it.

Thanks man, glad to hear it! I've been enjoying this format, I think I'm gonna stick with it as a normal video type i'll do in the future.
The biggest gripes for people who doesn't like the name is that the name itself is an acronym that stance for nothing, i do understand that and it's a valid criticism, but in other hand this seems like the biggest "Gameplay over Graphic" flex because how they just doesn't put League connection in for front of their marketing, i wouldn't be surprised if they actually add League of Legends as a subtitle later if the higher up doesn't like the name.

Yea I legit wouldn't be surprised if that was exactly the route they went IF they did go as far as changing the name, just make it like League of Legends: 2xKO or something akin to that. I still don't personally hate the name myself, but one thing even I wouldn't deny is it is absolutely SHOCKING they didn't use any sort of League/ Runeterra/ Arcane branding for the name to get as many eyes on it as possible. That is BOLD to say the least. lol And appreciate you as always brother.

Yea me too. I was a little surprised no PS4/Xbox one generation but also if we are talking about game dropping in 2025 the pS5 and Xbox series consoles will have been around for so long by then lol

Just had an idea. The league players play on kb&m, make a control scheme of arrow keys and qwerdf as the buttons. Also have a normal control scheme or controller support but I think that would be awesome
Oh yea for sure! they absolutely are doing this or close to it. I think there is actually gameplay in the most recent Dev video of someone playing on Keyboard, and Radiant's (the dev who got bought from Riot basically to make this game) Their previous game was basically made for Keyboard as well! Likely a lot of why they were chosen tbh!
Absolutely love the good news about both Wifi players and rage quitters being solved. Those are the only two major issues for playing fighting games online that I can think of, so it's awesome to hear about the devs addressing them before the game launches.

Absolutely! It's been quite solid with what I've hard but I didn't really have high hopes or any crazy expectations. Now I'm confident it's gonna be great and I can't wait to hear it.
I'm hyped for this game but ngl, the name is pretty underwhelming I wouldn't have minded Project L becoming the official name tbh.
Marketing-wise I do love that they fly out a lot of FGC (Tubers / Streamers / Pros) for testing and impressions but I wish they would fly out some LoL (Tubers / Streamers / Pros) because this whole Project "feels" like it's only catering to the FGC Audience which is slowly diminishing the massive LoL Audience we predicted would be playing the game when Project L was announced which I think is missing an opportunity.
Not saying LoL Players won't play but not as much as I initially expected.
Anyway still hoping for my girl Kayle to get a slot in the rosters future as an (Install or Zoner) Character.

I think your pretty spot on. It went from like 2 years ago "no motion controls? this game is gonna be for baby League plays NOT the FGC".... and now it's like wait... maybe it's ONLY for the FGC.... lol

Thanks brother! Yea it really is a shame... but the good news is looks like they are starting to pop off with communication now so if they get some more meaty good updates soon might cover the name debacle quick.
Okay I'm not the biggest fan of the name, it just doesn't flow that smoothly off the tongue, but I will give credit where credits due. I REALLY like that there is no reference to League of Legends in the title like there was in all the Riot Forge Games(A League of Legends Story).
They aren't calling it 'Runeterra Rumble' or something. I like how they are trying to give it its own IP(in a way).
It's definitely a really bold choice, I do respect them trying to build almost a separate brand. The one thing I will say though is now it's almost scaring me they are leaning almost TOO much into the hardcore scene potentially at the cost of a wider audience getting interested off brand awareness. BUT... at the same time I think riot will make it very clear it's a LoL fighting game with LoL characters and it will probably work out. I'd say the vast majority of ppl wouldnt have known "Arcane" was a LoL series just off of name, the marketing and good word of mouth seems like it still blew it up so here's to hoping for a repeat of that!

Im hoping for a full illaoi trailer soon too, that would be dope. And my advice is try not to stress to hard about it, these things take time! Fun fact - I had another YT channel before this and have done youtube for overall like 4 years now? There's a reason yhall will NEVER see my early stuff hahaha I think the reality is like in most things, your probably not gonna be great at it at first - BUT - that's okay. Everyone starts somewhere just have fun with the process and make stuff you enjoy

Indeed! I had planned to for quite a while now, still feels weird we finally got the name after all this time. As for the name itself is what it is, like you said i'll take it - im just beyond hyped at the idea of much more news more often now!

I really didn't like the name when it was revealed, but it's grown on me to the point of indifference. I don't think I'll ever like or love it, but I'm fine with it as-is. Here's to hoping we'll get some more big updates soon.
I heard a favorite Streamer of mine - WoolieVs- Compare it to when Nintendo announced the Revolution got renamed to the Wii. If was super jarring and everyone made fun of it.... but now when I think back yea it's a wierd name, but it's just kind of the thing I dont really care. lol
They should have dropped an insane trailer and in that trailer drop the name. Then atleast there would be other things we could talk about besides the name.
Agreed, im a bit surprised with how little more they actually revealed about the game itself with the name. I always thought with how long they were holding the name when they did finally reveal it that it would come with a massive news drop like characters, beta details and what not. Still some great stuff here but yea cant help but feel surprised still
the play test sign up is not a beta key for online test right?
They haven't actually spoken to how it's going to work fully just yet. I think there are going to be in-person events, probably invite-only in-person playtests - but then likely later in the year start doing actual betas. This is speculation on my end though so take it with a grain of salt
I believe the name not being linked to league is so they can add characters from other ips like Valorant into the game
Hmmm that's an interesting one. I've seen people hoping for crossover characters but personally I don't think it's likely, but I guess stranger things have happened. Would be pretty cool to get like a valorant skin line or something like that instead imo

Yea it's definitely interesting to see there are like 4 groups - 2XKO, Just 2-KO, DOUBLE KO and then people who are like.... yea im just gonna call it Project L. I'm very curious where it is actually going to land. haha
I get the capture the flac comparison, but thats a game mode, not a game. A better comparison would be calling Call of Duty "Kill the enemy" or League "Destroy the nexus"
Also the name shortening thing is cos THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A NAME,, Project L doesnt even have that,, It would be double knock out,, wich again,, is a game mode, not a game title
I'm Actually Okay With Name. Not Trying To Give Anyone Ideas Or Anything, But I Came Up With A Name For The Game, It Probably Be "League Of Fighters".

Im not one of the genius minds at riot making this game but id rather they made or used a name that would be shortened to 2xko or 2ko by the fans rather than themselves because, it'll grow on me but it just feels bad to say idk how to describe it sounds like a mobile game
Yeah I think there is still a part of me that believes it secretly does actually have a K.o k.o name and they are being cheeky with the acronym first... for some reason. lol But in actuality I think I'm in denial.
I think the name is fine and I’m tired of hearing people throw around the same bad ideas, still very excited that the floodgate is opening for news and release dates, cheers to the people making it

I love the name. I think it is a great idea to distance the game away from the branding it with the league IP.
It is very bold of Riot to do, gotta respect it at least! Is cool for it to finally feel like a real stand-alone video game finally.
You shouldn’t get punished if the disconnect is accidental.
As nice as that would be unfortunately I don't think there would be a way to prove that a disconnect was accidental. Even full-on internet outages you could just unplug your modem and the game would have no way of knowing which happened so probably best to assume it was intentional and you risk getting an accidental game loss every once in a while - vs people unplugging and abusing it all the time imo.
Idk i'll just keep calling it project L.

I did exactly that when I first saw it..... kinda still like it more too haha. 2KO is pretty Decent, I actually don't hate it!
