I like when Björk is dark and stringy. Vulnicura is my favorite because of that deep dark emotion. But slowly Fossora y becoming a real good album of her. It has everything I love about her, nice touches, dark, good vocals, emotion, industrial beats, I used a part of a song for an Instagram story an people told me they felt annoyed. It is a really good album.
By the way, the whole mushroom thing is because mushrooms can grow in almost any ground/surface/even plastic. Also, they're part of decomposition of corpses, so yeah, it's about the life coming from death. I'm not sure, but most certainly, she is aware that mushrooms are important for the environment, they communicate and send nutrients between trees and their roots, which is interesting and pretty much on Björk lyrics.
I read that both, Sorrowful Ground and Ancestress (as you know) are about her mother. Sorrowful Ground was written when her mother was sick, she was a nihilistic so that's why Björk mentions it. Then Ancestress was written after she died, she said it was something she would like to said about her during her funeral but in song form. Really cool.

I was speechless when I first listened to it. I didn't love her last two albums only really a few songs, but this one clicked immediately. I cried. It's magical and like I'm in that little fungal city. I agree the concept and how everything connects is just so beautiful. Not many artists make one of their best albums at that age, but Björk is an exception. I agree that if you love the acapella you should listen to Medulla next, which is all voice no instruments!

One thing really cool about this, is that Björk's mom was known as an environmental activist, that's why Björk talks about her rebellious nature, and it comes all together with Björk's love for nature! ❤️❤️❤️

Bjork also said her mum never liked anything to sound perfect, it should sound raw with mistakes they make things real. Thats why Bjork includes original vocals, original sounds walking on the rocks and snow and hires choirs that arent perfected.

I love your Björk journey !! When you asked for recs at the beginning I immediately thought of Medulla because it is so slept on; then I see all the comments about it and I’m thrilled. Volta is one of the more outgoing albums that is also slept on - it’s Powerful!! And of course Vespertine if you want to feel enveloped in Love. For me there is nothing better than Björk singing with a choir 💓 This album is still settling into my soul. I think “Her Mother’s House” is one of the most beautiful songs to exist. Atopos wakes me up brilliantly and Ovule & Freefall are perfectly mature & playful at the same time. Björk said she is better than ever at string arrangements now. I think your descriptions of “cinematic” and astonishing are perfect!!

From your reactions to certain moments, oh boy, you should react to Medúlla! It’s her album that is 99% made with human voices only. It’s surprising how much variety she managed to cram in there. Acapella, choir, screams, whispers, whistles, even “electronic” bangers with beatboxers, distorted voice samples, etc. It’s incredible.

Interesting factoid: Allow was originally planned for her previous album, Utopia. The song didn't reach it's completed form until after the album was released, though. I don't know for sure, but Freefall feels like a similar story with the album before that, Vulnicura.

I've heard people feeling scared with the darkest tracks in the album. Maybe I'm weird, but the dark tones did not scare me. Anyways, the album is a masterpiece. She's a genius composer. If you are going for more Björk albums, just know that her discography is a journey that has a certain continuity. Her albums are all connected. In that sense, I would recommend that you go for "Debut" next and enjoy the journey. But suggesting to go for "Medulla" next also makes sense, if you enjoy acappella and beat boxing 👍

Her best, most listenable album since Volta (2007). I enjoy 10/13 songs. So cinematic.
19:20 the music video in a nutshell
Skip/cut: Sorrowful Soil, Victimhood, & Fagurt Er Í Fjörðum (interlude). Keep the rest.
6:12 I feel like this is what Bjork had been doing since Biophilia (2011). Her music was becoming increasingly abstract and atmospheric with an insular disregard for listenability. After three extremely experimental albums (each with a small handful of accessible tracks), Bjork finally returned to something with more a discernable structure.
