I played this on flute before mass the weekend after John Lennon died. It was a similar arrangement, guitar and me. No practice, they asked me a few minutes before we played. I don't know If I was ever moved by my own playing like that before or since, it was reallly just a moment in time. Your cover took me back to that Sunday, just beautiful, and I thank you.
Very nice job, Clark! It's all there: tone, intonation, vibrato, phrasing, nuance...ah, and to think of the literally thousands of hours I spent in college & grad school trying to master 'The King of Instruments' (uh, that's the trumpet for any of you newbies reading in the future! LOL) and I never achieved such a pleasant vibrato(!) And I'm not sure how you do yours; thought I saw your lips/jaw move..but hardly, then towards the end, I thought I saw a little hand movement(?) Anyway, again - a fine job, and it looks like you & a buddy on guitar stayed after school in a dusty high school band practice room to record this when there were probably 100 other things you could've done with your friends/classmates! Keep up the good work - it'll pay off! I wrecked my chops over the years trying to be the lead 'high-note' player I was not born to be. In grad school I found out that many of the other players couldn't play near as high/loud as I could...but they had beautiful tone & fluid technique like you...and they got the top seats in the wind ensembles & orchestra...word! (I'm 61 and believe it or not, have picked up the horn again to try to build an embouchure from scratch - as I have developed 'embouchure dystonia' manifesting itself as an uncontrollable lip quiver just doing simple slur warmups & soft long tones..blindsided me...and it sucks - and I saw your video in the panel as I was watching a lesson posted by the Australian Jazz trumpet/trombone great Jim Morrison. @@clarklouiscrisostomo9446 Good to hear from you, Clark! And your English is doing fine, too. (I actually thought maybe you were an American kid in high school or young college undergrad...) Well, darn me! Yesterday I played too long & unknowingly reverted back to my old habits which put too much pressure on my top lip. It makes it hurt & stifles virtually ALL vibration from it. I play up a scale/arp and at about the same range as has been the case since 1977 nothing comes out of the horn - not even a squeak or just a 'bad' weak note - nothing! I happened to catch another young guy on his YT video showcasing a Schilke 24 MPC. I like & have always played Schilke MPCs, but nothing bigger than a 15. This 24 is like a soup bowl...and the kid was able to squeal a double 'C' and play 3 octaves of G arp, etc. So I tried to follow along and made my lip hurt, so I took the night off. In case you care or are curious, I did discover 1 thing from some other vids, and that is when I make my 'M' set & blow on my hand or thru a visualizer (I just got one 2 years ago...a bit too late, don't ya think!?) my airstream does not naturally project straight as if following the bore of my MPC. Instead, it deflects down quite a bit. I had trouble gently coaxing the airstream upwards, but when I did & focused on keeping it there, I got a strange - but good - feeling of my embouchure muscles getting a workout - like lifting weights - but without any soreness or swelling. :) Take care and if you ever have questions about English (and slang, too) or need a paper proofread, etc. I'd be willing to help if I can. Im from Philippines but I'm currently working now in Bahrain as a trumpet instructor in military band. Just play normal register not so high notes.
