This was nice to see where my Dad was born and grew up. I was there when I was young in the 60’s and don’t remember much. He went in the Navy at 18 met my mom in CT and stayed and started his family there. My Grandparents are buried there and I would like to visit their resting place before I move into mine. Thanks!!

Same here Ken. Both of my parents were from here, and we went back to visit in the 60's also.

Because South Dakota is a red state. Go to the blue states you will see plenty of it.

Spent time in Mitchell on my way to Rapid City to visit my cousin. Stayed at Lake Mitchell Campground - a small gem in comparison to most of the camping on my way from Alabama up the east coast through TN, VA, NY, MA and WI visiting friends and kin. The campground was very well maintained... but for a couple of dead fish along the lake's "beach". Stayer there again on the return via Sioux Falls then SSE back to Alabama. No Corn Palace visit, RUclips visit told me all I needed to know... and see. I loved my time in SD, including the miles upon miles of I-90 prairies and Badlands.

Wish that Mitchell South Dakota should install the LED street lights in 2022, like most large cities in South Dakota. The most common are the General Electric, Model M-400A, Duo door type and they built them between 1987 and 2003, then it was discontinued after that for 250 watt High Pressure Sodium Lamps. However there are LED street lights in Downtown Mitchell, including the Corn Palace Museum.

As a resident of Mitchell I need to know what day and time this was done. We have WAY more traffic. Main and 1st street were almost empty of car and I mean parked cars.
As you can see folks here cannot drive either.
For the large burning smoke early in the video. That could have been anything- my guess a middakota property having yet another “electrical” fire, if you decide to move here be aware- slum lords and rent too high for the condition the property is in.
I saw a comment about nice to see people not sleeping on the street. They’re probably sleeping the alcohol and meth off in a ditch, jail, friends, halfway house.
Don’t let this town deceive you- sure it can have some good points but there is bad. I had to removed my oldest from the school district because they wouldn’t properly address the racial and ethnic harassment and physical assault on my child. The town is mostly white conservatives- they love their beer and guns. If you have medical cannabis you’re hated by many because conservatives don’t want it here.
Let see-Meth and alcoholism run rampant here.
Employment can be a thing if you want to work at Walmart or fast food places. There is no “night life” here. There are some bars and that is about it.
The corn palace is literally a gymnasium covered in corn.
Anyone who watches this video and has questions- ask me in a reply. I’ve lived here for 25 of my 38 years on this rock.
