I keep seeing reactors say how surprised they were by "Rocky" saying that they expected a boxing movie but found that it was a love story, a drama, a character study, etc., but I remember an ex- boxer once telling me that when you fight, you have dig down and draw on all the things that give you physical and emotional strength, that it's everything that makes you who you are pitted against everything that makes him who he is. That was like 40 years ago, but it's always stuck with me. From that perspective, "Rocky" is a true boxing movie because everything you see about his character is what keeps him going in the ring.
Stallone's journey to even get this film made is inspirational and like Rocky for real. Love these movies! Stallone said himself it's a love story with some boxing in it and honestly that's what always draws me back to them. The characters themselves and especially Rocky and Adrian's relationship is one of the most genuine and heartfelt relationships I've seen in anything! Nothing but love.
Great reaction to my favorite franchise of all time. My wife and I reacted to this as well as she had not seen it. She had always thought of them as "fighting" movies but i sold it as a love story, which ultimately it really is. Good luck with the rest of the series, we cant wait to watch.
Rambo is S-tier acting by Stallone. Everyone knows him as a muscular action hero but the man can ACT. Should jump on First Blood ASAP. Like people will probably tell you the only real Rambo worth watching is the first one, the others are pretty much just action flicks.

With Rocky and Adrian's first date, it helps to tell myself that Rocky had been flirting with Adrian, in his awkward way, for a long time before that date and Adrian seemed to be interested, but couldn't bring herself to believe that he was really interested in her, because her own mother tells her she's nothing to look at and her brother makes her feel like she's nothing. I think that, until he made a move, she halfway expected it to be a joke at worst or a favor to Paulie at best. It's definitely not my favorite part of the movie, but Rocky really does give Adrian the support she needs to build her self-confidence. It's like he says to Paulie "She's got gaps, I got gaps, together we fill gaps."
Adrian is played by Talia Shire (Coppola). She is also Connie Corleone in The Godfather 1, 2, and 3 directed by her brother Francis Ford Coppola. Their nephew is Nicholas Cage (Coppola).
trivia: paulie (the drunk brother) is the only real boxer in this movie. first a marine boxer, then 14 professional fights, 14 won. also charity match with muhammad ali.
I think Apollo realized he was in a real fight when Rocky nearly knocked him out early in the fight it was the first time he'd been knocked down and you can see it on his face how surprised he was
Like your video references to other movies. You are the only one I know of who has added this. Rocky 1 is my favorite movie and if there had been no sequels I would have been satisfied.
Stallone was broke and wrote this in about 3 days. He was offered $300K for it but was told he could not act in it. He said no and eventually made the movie for about $1M. It won best picture and several other awards. He got a deal reminiscent of the Boy Bands where it was like take it or leave it. It made him a star but only because he believed in himself. As inspirational as the fil itself.
What up man. Loved your reaction. This was the No 1. film of 1976 and 3 of 10 Oscars among the several wins. Talia Shire, sister of filmmaker Frances Ford Coppola had been known of as Connie Corleone in The Godfather (4 years earlier) and later in the 2 sequels. Sometimes it's hard to decide what was the most loved role for her (Connie or Adrian). Carl Weathers was an well-known athlete. He played football for the Detriot Lions. But he had training in the dramatic arts. Did some film and television prior to getting the role of Apollo Creed. Before Weathers, Ken Norton (real life boxer) got the role and then turned it down. I only knew of Burgess Meredith as The Penguin from the 1960s Batman series and voiced a villain in the G.I. Joe movie (animated, 1987). But as Mickey, like Yoda or Mr. Miyagi was another great mentor character, The time and effort for Sly Stallone to bring this to the big screen is an underdog story in itself. Stallone's Oscar-nominated presentation as lead actor and screenwriter proved that he was the real deal. Not just some muscle-bound guy who got lucky like Rocky. Btw, Stallone didn't just write the script for most of these movies. He wrote the fights (move for move) as well and credited as fight choreographer. What a journey in an half.
Rocky is my favorite franchise and I'm a girl! He's inspired me in so many ways since I was a small kid. Please do watch the entire series... you won't be sorry. Keep punching! 🥊🥊
Okay so finishes in boxing: You have the TKO or technical knockout, this is when the referee steps in to end the fight. This is usually done in the case where a fighter is on his feet, but shows no signs of actually being in the fight, not defending himself or countering, just being a punching bag essentially. This is usually to protect fighters who obviously can’t continue but either their team refuses to throw in the towel or that they just won’t stay down for the 10 count. KO: knockouts, very obvious, if you go down you have 10 seconds to get back on your feet, and show the referee that you are capable of continuing. Thus it’s possible that even if you are standing, if you prove to be too unsteady and still heavily dazed you could still be considered knocked out, this would generally fall under a TKO. Going the distance/judges score: Generally modern fights last about 10 3 minute rounds, though you can have a smaller round count. Championship fights generally have 12, going the distance refers to making it to the end of the final round, at this point the 3 judges will submit their scores and the winner can be decided by either unanimous decision, split decision, or very rarely you could get a draw but it’s not very common. Now scoring in boxing is kind of simple but also kind of weird, at the start of each round every fighter starts with 10 points, the winner of said round usually keeps those ten points and the loser get 9. Many things influence this though, from how many of your punches are landing, are they landing firmly, are they doing noticeable damage, are you taking more “effective” hits than your deal, etc. knockdowns also effect this, for every time you are knocked down you lose a point, if you commit multiple illegal strikes you could be deducted points if not disqualified. And this is all surface level, there is quite a bit of depth to boxing as a whole. If you are at all interested I’d definitely recommend watching some lightweight fights, they can be incredibly fun given that the fighters are generally smaller and thus much more agile.
Great review! You HAVE to watch the remaining movies as they get better with each one (IMHO). A lot of your observations get addressed in the future films.

Great reaction and commentary. Rocky Balboa is my favorite fictional character and the Rocky series is by far my favorite movie series, nothing like it where you get to see a character develop from age 30 to age 72 in real time. Stallone wrote all the movies in the series except for the original Creed and Creed 3. All the Rocky movies took inspiration from what was actually going on in Stallone's life at the time. Stallone has a mild speech impediment that was a big obstacle for him getting good movie parts. Before Rocky Stallone was casted as bad guys with little or no lines and starred in a soft porn which was renamed the "Italian Stallion " after Rocky came out. After Stallone wasn't even able to get a role as an extra in the movie "The Godfather" he decided to start writing movies scprips for himself as the main character. The second movie that he wrote was Rocky after he was inspired by watching a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. All the Rocky movies are really good except for Rocky 5 it's just okay. Rocky IV was probably the least dramatic of the series and more of a '80s action movie. In 2021 Stallone re-edited the original 1985 Rocky 4 into a director's cut: " Rocky IV the Ultimate Director's, Rocky vs Drago" . The director's cut of Rocky 4 is one of my favorite movies in the series. The director's cut is a little bit more serious, more grown up and they cut out all the corny 80s stuff in it. The director's cut removed 40 minutes of footage from the theatrical cut added 42 minutes of footage that was not used in the original theatrical cut.I recommend that you watch the original Rocky 4 after 3. And come back to the director's cut of Rocky 4 after you watch Creed 2. But if you're going to only react to one version of Rocky 4 I recommend the director's cut over the theatrical cut.
