This is my preferred varnish method as well but I usually use high gloss, I’m glad this works out well with the Satin also, I’ll have to give that a try 😊. Great tip on spritzing water in the air before starting to get any dust out! Fantastic video! 😃💜
Thank you Jodie 💖💖💖 I have only used satin finish in 4 canvases so far including two in video. My rest large and medium canvases have high gloss varnish finish though 😊
It's dry. It will get dampen with varnish though. Once you finish with all coats, soak in hot water to rinse varnish. If you leave it overnight, cloth will get harden as varnish will dry.
Yes, I use same cloth. It doesn't dry in 20-30 mins gaps and gets soaked in every use. If you leave it for good few hours or overnight it will dry. After applying all coats, I soak in hot water to wash off varnish.
would your method work with any varnish or only liquitex? I use a different varnish I've seen other artist use and recommend. my issue is cracking when dry...also didn't hear about the cloth...regular cloth?
I have tried this method on liquitex only so can't guarantee for other brands. It's very thin layer each time so definitely no cracking. You can apply as many as layers you want giving time to dry for each layer in between until you're happy with the finish. I think highest number I went to 12 layers. I use cut piece from old t-shirt. Old sock works great too. Make sure it's clean and no stringy particles coming out from whatever you use. Thank you 💖💖💖
It's ok for wipe on method as it very thin layer like wiping canvas with cloth. Plus in bottle water and varnish together which requires shaking to mix them when it sits for long time. But yes you're right when we apply thick layer without touching with cloth and shaking before using ends up with lots bubbles!

Is the cloth you use damp or dry? I'm going to try this method . Thanks for sharing your technique 😍

Do you take the same cloth for every coat? I think it hardens in the meantime?

Don’t shake! It makes bubbles!
