I don't have enough space in my microvan for an additional fuse block, but I have two unused fuse spaces in my factory box. I want to use this method instead. Thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to know!
I was just about to put a secondary fuse block in my wife's car for some accessories and realized I had 4 empty slots in the main fuse box. This helps a lot.
This is a great video. I was searching how to add power to fog lights and most other videos I found were hack jobs. This was the only one I could find that seems to do it right.
Hey Martin! I was looking for an example for wiring a relay into the factory fuse box and found your video. Like you I want to keep the engine compartment clean and clear. It shouldn't be too hard to expand your fuse idea to a relay. Your detailed video will help my project quite a bit. Thanks for posting.
Glad I could help, many tines there will be empty spot or two in the fuse block for adding a relay. This fuse block had room in the back to add 2 to 4 more relays.
I had to look up so many different variations of the same question to get past all the junk and find this video. You Are literally thinking what I’m thinking I do not care about that add a fuse Junk! Thank you
Thanks Martin..even tho most of the mods and repairs you have shown I may never duplicate however your methodology and details are valuable for any project and this one is real helpful for me as I am thinking of adding a whole additional fuse block for lots of 12 volt stuff. I saved a complete fuse block out of a vehicle I scrapped. I have lots of room as it's a skoolie. Fair Winds and Smiles
People with Volkswagen have many spare locations in the fuse blocks. Use what you already have, instead of buying a new parts. You'll probably need relays but that is easy.
I love that you did this video. Been looking all over RUclips for someone to show this being done. My problem is that I need to add mini fuses. Where can I get the parts or what are the plugs called? Anyway thanks for the video.
That's exactly how I found this video. RUclips is chock full of what seems like millions of videos where people hack in inline fuses or use fuse taps, I'm surprised so few people actually utilize the space in the OEM distribution block. The terminal for the mini fuses is known as a "Female Junior Power Timer Terminal" I tempted to buy some from Digikey or Mouser, but just because they properly fit the fuses doesn't mean that they will fit all distribution block housing.
Good info here thanks. I’ve spent 25 years working with alternating currents but just in the last year have become quite interested in automotive wiring. But, be it Ac or Dc I can’t stand sloppy wiring or anything unnecessary like for instance, extra in line fuses.
Thank you so much, ive been wanting to do this for years! However I would keep cheaping out and use add a fuse, they work and its hidden, but would bug the hell out of me because i knew there was a way to do this clean.
I'm a huge fan of this idea. I prefer everything being tidy rather than having random fuses strewn about or three different accessory fuse boxes. Fortunately, I have standard blade fuses. That means I can get the fuse terminals brand new rather than scrounging at a junkyard. FWIW, here's a source for the blade terminals and pretty much any other electrical connector you might need for a vehicle. I'm not affiliated with the site, just a very satisfied customer. It's one of the best finds ever, they really do carry a ton of the bits that you normally think of as junkyard parts because you have no idea where to find them. www.repairconnector.com/products/Brass-ATO-Fuse-Block-Terminals-10-Pack.html Shame they don't seem to have the spade terminals for the FMX fuses in the video though.
@@martinbuilt glad to help. The only bad thing about that site is that it can be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for if you don't know what it's called. But once you figure it out it's awesome being able to order a brand new connector to splice into your harness.
Hooking up fog lights and like a recommendation for a hot off the ignition switch in the factory fuse box to splice into (wire color and tracer ) thx!!
my car had a fuse melt the plastic and it damaged the box itself. No added accessories or anything just the stock amplifier. Would it be possible to just rewire it into an empty fuse after finding an upgraded wire? Sorry for the rookie question.
This is exactly what I need to do! If I’d like to use new stuff, can I buy those wire leads with the blades on them online? What are they called exactly so I can find them? Thanks a lot!
Yeah I doubt you're able to purchase the leads with the terminals on them already not exactly what you would call them maybe fuse terminals? I think you'd be happy with just going to your local salvage yard and getting a section of wire with the terminal on it already. I'm glad you liked it and found it helpful and thank you for watching.
I have been looking for HOURS for this information. because god damn if people aren't stupid as hell, using those crappy fuse things from autozone to tap into an existing fuse. which then the wire has two fuses on it, one for the original accessory and one for the new. why do that when you can simply ADD like you did... so much better, and looks normal as apposed to jerry-rigged. thank you thank you thank you. I am like, 50/50 on electrical, not all knowing. And with that in mind, I think your solder job could have been better. I would have untwisted the wire into their smaller individual wires, and then kinda webbed them together like putting your fingers together (each strand between another strand, like your right pointer finger between your left hand point/middle fingers). then soldered. there are other wire techniques but I find mine to be more than enough. the other thing with heat in the engine bay, the solder could heat up enough to end up coming undone. ive seen that before. hence doing a better job putting the wires together as apposed to the side by side.
There should be no reason you would need to have the vehicle reprogrammed because of a fuse box replacement even if it came from another year, make and model of vehicle. Thanks for watching.
I have a 2005 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. And it starts up and shuts off a few seconds. Do I need to bypass the fuel pump fuse. Or what would u think is going on?? Can u help. Thanks.
I would check the fuel pressure. It actually sounds like the key does not have the chip in the key or not programed to the ECM/PCM. Is the security light coming on the dash?
At first it wasn't starting up. Just cranks. Until I found a fuel injector broken and replaced it.. then it starts up but shuts off. I don't think the security lights on.

Hey brother , great video. Quick question. How can I tap into a spare fuse that has current ? My headlight fuse slot has no current so I’m trying to see if I can use the spare to rewire from. Thanks in advance
Thank you, Mark. You could remove the load wire from the fuse box for the headlights and move it to one of the unused fuses. But why would the headlight fuse have no current? I don't think the problem is at the fuse box.🤔
