Great video, tha,ks man ! Could you tell me why I hear an A note on Cmaj7 ? I know it's the 6th's but not an important note. Am I wrong ?

Thank you so much! So, I don't believe that I played an A in the Cmaj7 at any point in the video... However the 6th is a very important chord tone for your I chord - because many times it is used instead of the maj7 (B) and the chords becomes C6 (R 3 5 6) because when you do that, the Cadence from V7 to I feels much more resolved. Sometimes resolving to Imaj7 (R357) doesn't sound so resolved - therefore the 6th is preferred instead of the 7th.
Having said that, it is possible to have both the 7th and the 6th...! All you need to do is to use the 6th as an extension and call it a 13th instead (still the same note). So you will end up with Cmaj13 (R 3 5 7 13). Does that make sense?

@@modernguitarliberation Yes, thank you for the explanation. I'm not talking about chords, I mean when I'm soloing trhough this, I like playing an A in the second part of CMaj7. Now I know why.

@@egimzyegimzy3566 hmm... I'm curious about your definition of a "beginner"...?
Because what my personal experience as a guitar teacher in the last 15 years has shown me, is that most advanced players (outside jazz) are nowhere near there actually

@@modernguitarliberation i mean, the importance of following chord tones is learned across the board of most styles (if not all) very early on, non jazz players still should have the ability to follow chord changes - if they're saying they are an advanced player, but sound like they're still fishing around for the melody they hear in their head over simple chord changes, they are not an advanced player

@@Jb-bp7ni I would advice you to not allow other people to demotivate you with their opinions. I know it can be hard of course but it's definitely worth surrounding yourself with the right people (the ones who offer you value instead).
