  • In this video we will be taking a trip on the Riga suburban railway on the Tukmus line as far as Lielupe station close to the beaches at Jurmala. Come along as i explore these classic RVR Rigas Vagonbuves Repnica ER2 electric units on a suburban train bound for Sloka station on a early april morning. The train is operated by Pasažieru vilciens which is the passenger train operator on the latvian railway network.

I take them to commute to my home in Olaine. They might be old but Riga is so lucky to have 4 lines of electrified commuter trains. They are very fast and comfortable. You can reach centre of the city from places 30 km ways in 30 min. It’s far superior than any other form of public transport.

We took this train a couple of years ago on a short break in Riga. It’s a nice trip and the beach is one of the best in the Baltic. Thanks for the video, brings back some sweet summer memories.

Having ridden these trains for 40+ years it is nice to see a level headed outsider perspective. Hope to see you back in the Baltics again!

In 2023 32 brand new EMUs Škoda (there are videos form 2022 in Riga) are to be delivered to Riga and they will replace all the old electric ERs, I believe about 10 new Škoda EMUs delivered so far. But no to get upset :) old diesel trains (just modernised) will be in service until 2030 and usually go to far cities.

Those trains must look and ride good! If only they had phone/computer charging ports. Then it would be perfect.

there's a comfort class apparently, but I haven't seen a single ticket that includes it

@@GATESBYthe suburban trains do not have comfort class. it's present only on specific trains that go across the entire country

    7:59 "Depo" stop.
It is a very interesting stop as it is limited service and sees only about half of the Tukums II line trains, It is interesting why the station gets so few trains, and If anyone could could tell me why, I'd be very grateful.

My best bet is the stop the trains there when the shifts start and end at the depot 😊

You forgot one major feature. Heating that sometimes work, sometimes don't. 😄 Actually, I know how to turn it on regardless.
