1961 Tonka Fisherman Camper Truck Restoration

- I purchased this 1961 Tonka Fisherman Camper Truck off the Facebook exchange February of 2021. This thing was super rough! I'm pretty sure many people would have just thrown this one away. It had many dents and dings, missing the fisherman camper topper, tailgate, grille, windshield was busted, axles were bend, hub caps were solid rust, white walls and tires were completely weathered out, and all of this... made me extremely excited to work on it. I've wanted to add one of these fisherman trucks to my collection for awhile and was super excited about it. I purchased a used topper and tailgate off eBay and sandblasted then refinished them. For as pitted as this truck was, after a couple coats of filler primer powder and wet sanding the pits filled in and it came out glass smooth. I had a ton of trouble trying to replicate the white wall tires and after many attempts I was able to get some that came out very well. I was having an issue with my release agent and the silicone rubber I was using, after clearing that up the mold came out super crisp. I'm not extremely experienced in casting rubbers, however I'm always excited to learn new things. Thank you for watching!!

Love those sheep and Beaker
Definitely love what you do to the old toys
Thank you for sharing 😊
Excellent restoration. I can remember my younger brothers receiving Tonka vehicles for Christmas. They played with them for years
Appreciate how you show different attempts and not edit out problems or mistakes.
Just recently discovered your channel. You have great skills in the work you do. I'm 58 and alot of your projects bring back wonderful memories of my childhood. Thanks
You sir, are the standard by which all other restorers are measured by. Your attention to detail is second to none. Keep up the great work.
FANTASTIC! A million dollar collection! 👌👌👌
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. The best restauration.
Nice looking Tonka well done.
Another fantastic Restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful restoration mister good job well done
Ouch you can tell the child that played with this one made it earn the Tonka Tough designation.
It’s sad Tonka doesn’t have that quality anymore. I still have all my Tonka Trucks from the mid 50’s.
I still have mine from the 70's and 80's, they took a beating but they're still in good shape.

Kids are such an L
Nicely done.......incredible!!!!!!
If your Tonkas could cry, every last one you restored would be sobbing openly in joy and praising you as a literal deity!
All hail the Mighty Chips! Guardian of the Tonkas!
That red pops.... nice work as always
A good restoration job done on that camper truck
Excellent work, I really liked how you made the molds for the whitewalls. Thank you for sharing.
Never tire of watching you restore "loved" toys!
I find myself totally envious of your skill.
Just another excellent piece of workmanship Chip. Love your videos and can always find time to watch, even 2 weeks later. .l love how the paint job lifts the whole truck to a different level in the before and after round up.
When you popped the hubcaps and all the dirt fell out, it reminded me of an old car I redid and brake dust just fell out by the pound.
Thanks again for keeping the videos coming.
Excellent! I was so excited to see if your white walls were going to work! Perfect restoration!
The camper that I have sense I as a boy in the 1970s, I do not see one like in your collection. You have a beautiful rare collection. You are a true artist
For me the best part of this video was watching you making your own replacement parts. Great job.
Great work, Chip. It was beautiful. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Maaan, your videos are always immensely satisfying. Great job
Came for the sand blasting, stayed for the kittah.
Out of all the channels I watch yours brings me back to childhood rock on man where are you out of ?? Thumbs up always
Thank you for watching! I’m out of Nebraska in the United States
Nice job! It probably didn't look that good when it was new. That glass smooth finish is just remarkable!
You have created another beautiful restoration. The paint job is exceptional. The self-made white walls are beautiful.
It has become a gem again.
I have an old Tonka Ramp Hoist from the mid 60's, red with a white roof. It's in excellent condition, unlike my others which really show their age. I have the identical stake bed pickup with matching trailer in pale blue with white top. I saw this at the back of your collection towards the end of your video. Sadly mine is in rough shape, I think it was my favorite back in the day. Keep up the good work.
Really cool 👍 this restoration
It trues what they say about Tonka. They are really really tough, Great restoration as always!!!
Again a Superb Job...!
That first whitewall comes out of the mold.
Us: Yaaaaaaaaaay! 👏
Beautiful restoration buddy 👍 i like it👍
That’s sharp. Great job.
Very sweet and as always come back very well love it nice work brother Lee
Beautiful job and beautiful shiny red paint and I love chrome
Fantastic restoration, thanks for sharing.
Fabulous whitewall fabrication, Chip! Equally excellent dent and bend restoration. Say hello to Beaker! 👍👍👍
Wow, you have a fantastic collection.
I see the ending. So beautiful
Rare to say? Good to know I have the same one, just with a little flat bed trailer. Still waiting for me to restore it lol. Love these things.
Fantastic job on the mode u made.
It absolutely astonishing how u turn a rust bucket of a car into a brand spanking new one its absolutely brilliant x
This turned out really well. I like the red and white colors. I also like that you took the time to replicate the white wall rings for the tires. That was a nice touch. This truck turned out amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful hammer work.
You are the ‚my mechanics‘ of the toy car league.
Great job as usual !!!!!
Love to watch your videos !!!!
I LOVE that you add a detailed description to your videos. The questions I had were answered there! Thank you for hard work!
To the chip restoration
Well done for restoring the tonka truck
From paul chapman
You always make an excellent work congratulations I’m from MÈXICO.
Hola yo soy de España
Such wholesome and charming videos. I don't understand how anyone could dislike them.
I can't say it enough, you are and always will be the best.
Also this time perfect work.
Slowly the space on the table with your works of art is getting tight.
I saved every video of you, now I have to wait 2 long weeks again, but it's worth it.
Warm greetings from Germany
Thanks soo much for watching! I’m very excited for the next video! It’s been long awaited!
@@ChipChannelRestorations As always...a beautiful restoration.
I LOVE THIS ONE!!!! Your creation of the white walls is flawless.
It would be AWESOME to watch you make a simple frame boat trailer for this truck.
As you know, various small boats are readily available.
I hope you'll seriously consider my suggestion. It would make a GREAT video.
Best regards,
Ben
What a beautiful job, congrats!
Only when we work doing the same thing we can understand the dificulty of every step. Somethimes we find a part who stay stucked, some times we get one sctach or other, some times we have a problem with a new technic or we forget something and we need to start again but, nothing is more pleasureable that when you finish a project and you stay there looking to him with a smile on the face.
One more time, congratulations!
You are an great artist!
Fantastic job! Who ever owned that truck sure beat the daylights out of it but you sure did a great job bringing it back to life. My hat off to you sir! 👍👍
Solid work👊
I really enjoyed the toy car restoration video, until it didn't feel like 20 minutes was running, thank you greetings from Indonesia 🙏
Very beautiful restoration job.
Awesome job 👍 as always
Your shop must be awesome 😎.
Your work is great as always.
AWESOMENESS !!!!!
I love every one of these videos, and can't wait until the next one comes out! I hope that you never run out of old toy trucks to rescue and restore.
Beautiful restoration, as always! I enjoy all of your projects; but I particularly appreciate the Tonka trucks.
Wood you sell this truck
You truly did an Outstanding Job rebuilding this truck. Huge round of applause for this work!
I love what u said about the truck and camper. Believe me I would not throw something like that away. I am a collector, but ur right some people would
Totally amazing restoration. Once again you pull off a miracle. Love watching you turn a wreck into something I'd love to play with. And although he's not visible, CYCLOPEEP - WE LOVE YOU!
I enjoy your videos with my white footed torbie curled up beside me.
Awesome job as always!! Now just have to get the fishing boat trailer to go with it ;)
Excellente restauracion lograda en esta Camioneta Camper Tonka Fisherman, respetos desde Venezuela.💯🤜🔥🤛👍🙏💯
Looks like your bone yard is getting low my friend, time to go find more rusty gold to restore! Love from California.
My first thought exactly. The pile is getting low. What, or what, will we do when he has nothing else to work on for video content? On, wait, he could stage some interesting demolition derbies. Can you imagine how he would have to launch vehicles to cause enough damage to restore again in a video? In lieu of that, I guess that's what yard and garage sale, thrift stores, flea markets and junk shops are for.
Nice beautiful work♥️👍
Truely amazing - would have preferred blue instead of red, but that’s personal choice - Great Job
Oh I needed this today. Thanks!
Same👍
Flawless as usual, great job!
Wow! I didn't think the truck was able to be restored.. After restoration, it looks like it came off the toy store shelf!
Fabulous restore as always, Chip! Really liked the way that you made your own whitewalls!
A shop tour video would be nice.
Man do I love these videos!
Outstanding yet again! Fine fine job!!
Awesome work!
Bravo!!! You sir have some bad ass skills!! 🤘🏽
Good job man.
Wonderful! Better than new!
Beautiful work
I was recently cleaning out my storage shed and found some of my sons old tonka trucks, id love to get them restored and give them to him for a birthday present.
The whitewalls turned out SO, so good! ♥
I can't believe how huge they are !
And this was an absolute Excellent restoration
Well done project, and well produced video.
It sure was awesome seeing you make those whitewalls to perfection👍👍
Me: No way he can restore this
Chip Channel: Hold my tools
really amazing work dear i love it...
If wasn't the middle of July I would honestly believe the restoration of this Tonka Truck was a Christmas Miracle and Chip must be a distant cousin of Santa himself...🎅
Thanks so much for sharing the images of the specific equipment and settings you use when doing the restoration. I have been thinking about giving something like this a try but am sadly ignorant of what it takes as a whole to do it properly.
Just start out and your skills will get better as you go along don’t need all these tools to begin with harbor freight has a sandblaster under 100 bucks on sale and paint them at first you will be surprised how they can come out !
Beautiful truck, even before u restore it.
Bellísima la restauración ! Saludos desde Argentina.
Awesome Job!! 👍😁
I’ve never seen anyone remake the white parts of the tires before. I’ve watched a lot of restoration videos and it seems like they always just buy new ones. Very cool technique and very good job!
I always liked camper trucks. The great big camper I have is very old. I remember when it was beautiful
I thought when you picked that left rear panel up 'Boy that's going to be hard to straighten" you made it look easy. Incredible job. 2 thumbs up
You should add a sticker to your tow truck, something like Chip's Towing and Body Work
very nice work
