I really appreciate this tribute, Brian. As a young saxophone player in the mid 70s, David was a huge influence on me, along with straight ahead players like Bird and Art Pepper. It's safe to say that Dave influenced a generation of saxophone players, and the direction of what might be called Smooth Jazz today.

When I heard that David had passed, I somehow could not grieve, and felt very numb. His music was a big part of my childhood, teen, and youth, but somehow I could not connect. Listening to you play some specific songs, and talk about him allowed me to grieve. “Your Smile” somehow captured the essence of Sanborn for me. Thank you for this touching tribute!

BC - you will never know how this tribute allowed me to do something that has been on my heart for a long time. Jazz has been a instrumental (pun intended) part of my life and what it's meant to those I shared it with. 2/4 have left this earth and 1 is on his way. I took steps to remedy a rift that opened because of misunderstanding and hope to heal those wounds before that time is up. It's been pent up in my heart for months - I don't think I could have done it without seeing the tears you were holding back this evening. Thank you and God bless.

Brian! 16 or 17.1979 or so Foxmoor clothing store euclid square mall. Don't Speak is playing and i stopped in my tracks and my life long love for jazz started at that minute and changed my life!!! Greetings from Liverpool, England. How I loved David Sanborn. My local bar (Options Cafe Bar, which was part of Options nightclub and Options cinema) when I was an undergraduate at Kingston Polytechnic in the late 1980s was managed by a guy called Kenny. He played Bob James/David Sanborn "Double Vision" which I fell in love with and bought the tape. I went on to buy all his recordings on tape but also the anniversary edition of "Double Vision" (with two extra tracks, "Luxor" and "Hey Girl") and then the 24K edition. They had a "Double Vision" tour but only in the US. They never did come to the UK, which is such a shame.

My entire youth was turned upside down, I taught many people how to listen to high-quality music, how I had my own recording studio, and recorded from vinyl discs onto audio cassettes... 😍
