  • This video will talk about the differences between POE, POE+, and POE++. These three are the common standards for POE specifications, they have different amounts of power output. The POE is also known as IEEE 802.3af can provide around 13W to edge devices. POE++ also known as IEEE 802.3at can provide 26W. The POE++ also known as IEEE 802.3bt can provide 71W. The power and the bandwidth are different, so we need to make sure all fit our demand.

    What will happen if you connect a poe plus ptz IP camera, to a regular poe switch? The poe switch has a 48 volt 1.2 amp power supply and I don't think the camera draws more than 15w.

      The PTZ camera definatly will draw more than 15W. The infrared PTZ camera requires about 24W maximum. You should test the camera's power consumption in dark environment or force the infrared to turn on, meanwhile moving the camera around. It should draw maximum power when the motors are running. If your PoE switch supports also PoE+, it will be fine, otherwise, it will force PoE switch keep rebooting when the power is over load. You also use the PoE+ Injector if your switch only output PoE IEEE802.3af (14.4W)

    Main router + 100 meters cable + POE + 100 meters cable + 2nd router is it gonna work or do i need POE injector as well?

      I suppose you will need extension between two routers. You mentioned there are 200 meters between them. The standard TCP/IP network only can provide 100 meters distance without extension.

    i have a nokia famtmile 4g outdoor antenna and it comes with a 53v poe adaptor to give it power and also to connect a router to the internaet to distribute wireless signal , however i would want to buy a backup mini poe ups to power the router wen there is no AC power ,but the highest i have seen is the 48v poe mini ups , will it be sufficient to power the 53v fastmile or is there something i can use to convert the 48v poe to 53v to power the fastmile

    • @Fastcabling

      If the distance is short, you might try the 48V UPS. Also, you might want to check the specification of Nokia famtmile, just make sure it is IEEE802.3 compatible PoE device. With DC48V, you might low part of the power budget basing original decide. That is why I said the distance should not be too long.

      @@Fastcabling what length is okay enough for a 48volts poe ups to be able power the 53volts fastmile

    Is there any potential damage on a PoE security camera when it is connected to a PoE+ switch ?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  2 года назад +2

      No harm. There is power negotiation between the PoE switch and your ip camera. The PoE switch will verify and classify your edge camera before it sends the power. It will downgrade to PoE if your camera doesn’t require PoE+. Moreover all the electrical products only will take whatever power budget it needs. Even you can use 90W PoE++ switch to connect the PoE camera.

    can a non PoE device connect to a PoE switch and can a PoE+ camera connect to PoE++ switch. Can a PoE NVR connect to PoE++ switch to PoE+ camera ?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  3 года назад +1

      Yes, the camera non PoE device work with PoE switch. There is power handshake between the PoE switch and you edge POE device. If the POE switch or PoE injector can't verify the edge device is POE compatbile porduct, the PoE switch will not send the power. No only power handshake, but also classification, the PoE switch will know what power budget should set to. The PoE++ switch can work with PoE or PoE+ edge equipment. It is backward compatibile.

    Does POE + and POE ++ need special cables to handle the current or regular cat5e will do?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  2 года назад

      No, it works with standard cat5e and cat6 Ethernet cable. Just make sure it is 100% pure copper but not the CCA type. There is serious power loss in the CCA type cable.
