- This was a pilgrimage that, as a siren enthusiast since childhood, and the proud owner of a 1978 ACA Howler that came from Minnesota, I NEEDED to make. After discussing this siren with Mitchell in September, we made plans to take this trip and see it test, with Holly and Jeff joining us. After getting up at an ungodly hour and traveling most of the morning, seeing the last Howler in service way up on that tall pole was absolutely worth the journey. It sits very prominently next to the water tower, so I decided to include my first glimpses from a distance as we arrived.
It was a very warm and windy October day, as you can see, which affected the belt driven rotator. It flops around in the wind and struggles a bit when running. Knowing what I do about these sirens, it more than likely needs both drive belts (or just one belt in the case of later model Howlers with chain drives) replaced and a lube change in the gearbox. Still, this little guy sounded healthy and loud - just as punchy as any P-10/15 that I've ever heard. Just like Hudson's T-135AC, this siren has been recorded like a billion times, but this was a day that I'll never forget and will always be thankful that I got to experience. After this, I can't wait to eventually hear my Howler run under its own power. Thank you for watching! Enjoy!

Great video!
@@freebrickproductions Thank you!
Howler's sure is howling! These are definitely interesting siren IMO. I still remember seeing that one video of that one howler with a broken cone that was struck by lightning. I had no idea that you have one! Hopefully you can get it working! Nice video!
Thanks! I've had mine since 2007. Everything's functional, and it's being cosmetically restored. There's an old video on my channel where I spin it up with a drill.
i never realised that howlers were surprisingly punchy. great video as always I loved the little cinematic shot of the howler when you first approached it
Thanks! It was really something special to me so I wanted to include it. I'm glad you appreciated that part!
This is the first full siren test I've been too
Very nice! Those rotator belts tho.
Cologne✨
Awesome video, that howler sounds amazing. Also that rotation is a little choppy.
To be completely honest im surprised one is still in active service yet.
@ThunderTrain2930 I love that it is, but I agree, it's gonna need maintenance soon if it's meant to stay in service.
Fix your howler bro 😭
Great video btw
Thanks! Lol, she'd run right now if I had 3 phase.
