- This may well have been the last test of this STH-10. Having visited it again recently, it has been confirmed that this unit is currently dead. From comments on my crappy bts video, it has been noted that this siren has a single phase motor, and the brushes on it are pretty much gone. As it continues to try running, you can hear some nearby T-128s. This STH was installed in the 1950s or 60s, as the very first in NFDL's system. I hope it gets fixed, but if ECS is involved, I'm not holding my breath. If nothing else, it served its purpose well for nearly 70 years.
This is my video filmed this past September, jazzed up with drone footage from this February. This particular location (in the CN rail yard) is not an easy one to record without trespassing, so I flew my drone when I was there most recently to get some better imagery of the siren and the surrounding railroad equipment. Like many siren fans, I have a touch of the train autism as well, so I hope you enjoy seeing the choo-choos like I do. Thank you for watching! Enjoy!

When you try your best but you don't succeed aah siren
@Montecat33 It's a good lesson about life in general, lol.
WE SAW THE CHOO CHOO TRAIN EVERYBODY
@SirensAndElevators HELL, YEAH! *cue that one song* ...you know the one.
Remember me when siren archives asks you if he can use this video
“Hey where’s the Lincoln Park Ketamine!?” Suspiciously corroded STH 10:
Nice video. Too bad this one is failing. Almost sounds like a 2001 with dying batteries. Let's see what happens with this guy. If it's SWS maintained, It might be saved, If it's ECS then like you said, say goodnight for this siren. Also I'm a huge train (and railroad crossing) guy. Definitely a bigger interest of mine than sirens. (Though sirens are still a very close second for me) So I absolutely do not mind the views of the CN yard or the occasional choo choo's!
Man it just doesn't not sound happy
Hopefully it either gets repaired or replaced
I’ve always liked trains too even before I got interested in sirens but I don’t do the railfaning stuff, sucks about what happened to the STH-10 but it did its service indeed
Wow I never knew Canadian National SD-40-2s were common in WI that STH-10 is on its last few tests it needs to be fixed ASAP or replaced
@@trainsandsirensofutah5334 They're not super common as run-through power on freight, but they do handle local jobs.
It was just strange that there were like 10 there
@trainsandsirensofutah5334 I guess there is an abundance of EMD stuff up that way. I think they stick close to that yard for the most part. Sadly, we don't see nearly as many such units on the Waukesha Sub where I railfan - there used to be a lot more.
I think that's the 3T22 version but with 1 set of horns instead of 2
No
You should in inquire about rescuing this siren and make it great again and take it to siren con
@apismellifera1000 That'd be cool, but I have other projects. I'd bet that thing just stays up there for quite a while.
"STL-10, I TOOK KETAMINE" - ahh sth-10
This one met the same fate as the one in Alderley did I see. Shame.
Hope they fix it. For me, as long as they have the money and time to fix it and it is fixable, I'd fix it. Also, what's with ECS? A new siren dealer I can hate on?
@OwenLester ECS is the local Federal dealer, and their maintenance practices are questionable at best. Unfortunately, any older sirens they are supposed to maintain seem to be ignored until failure and are replaced in short order. I get it if the municipalities don't want to spend the money to keep older sirens going, but ECS stickers on older sirens seem to be a death sentence. It really sucks that like half of WI's sirens will eventually be ECS 2001s. The hate is deserved, lol.
@@RamFett The "intrusive" thought to tell my dad to sue the hell outta these guys lol, as hes sorta a fellow siren enthusiast like me. I've seen newly installed ECS 2001-130s that sound sick as hell. 2001-130s are a pain to keep healthy (but also ridiculously easy to fix), but NO 2001-130 outta the factory sounds sick... unless its an ECS one.
Yeah, I think ECS should get a lawsuit to put them in their place. Or maybe WI should just go back to Fulton lol.
Edit: Man I sound like a lil spoiled girl haha
oh lord
I do not think thats brushes, if it is fair enough. But to me... straight up sounds like that motor is failing! a rewind/redo or replacement motor is in order! also.. i feel it should have blown a fuse ?! unless something else is wrong downstairs with the controls. Interesting video nonetheless!
@matthewwalker8197 You might be right. I'm only conveying what others have told me. Either way, it's sad to hear it like this
@ possibly ?! Ahhh I see ?.. well, considering it does go up to full pitch as normal, then starts going funny after.. hmm, I haven’t a clue honestly other than that motor needs work loosing pitch like that and doing what it does makes me think it’s on its way out, but could be wrong. It is real sad! Hopefully someone with sense bothers to come and fix it up! Decent siren honestly
Yeah I agree. It sounds more like the motor is just going. It could also be that the brushes are so worn they’re barely making a connection at all
Oh my god what lol
fent siren
The CN engines are cooler ngl
Big oof
