Down this very road you must slow down as you head to the water. There are tarantulas crossing in the autumn and little owls warming on the road in summer and autumn
Interesting fact about North Fork: Anne Bredon was a resident of North Fork. She designed beaded jewelry there. Her life was a rather slow one for sure. Anne was born in 1930, and grew up during the World War II years. She passed away in 2019 at the age of 89. Until her passing, you could have taken your original Led Zeppelin album so that Anne Bredon could have autographed it for you while you were there. Anne Bredon, the 89 year old grandmother who made beaded jewelry in the little town of North Fork, California, was the actual person who wrote the song "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You." Led Zeppelin never acknowledged or gave her credit for being the author of that song.
The Heart of Texas (aka the center of Texas) is near Brady, Texas. Now, it’s important to note that the center marker was not placed at the exact center of the state. That’s 5 miles northwest on private property, the marker points out. So, if you visit the marker, you’ll also want to drive about a quarter of a mile south and pull into the Heart of Texas Park, complete with a few picnic tables and a small observation tower you can climb to see the true center amid the rolling hills, oak and mesquite trees, round hay bales, and cattle. Giddy Up!
Cool vid, I live in San Diego, and lived in Fresno. I worked in madera and remember passing by the palm and spruce. Not sure how I learned about it, but knew it symbolized center. 👍
Your trip to the center of California reminds me of my trip to find Jesse Chisholm's Grave in Oklahoma. I drove on a US highway, then a county road, a township road (gravel) and finally two ruts in the grass. The road ended on the top of a small rise. Found the headstone about 150 ft down the hill. So I walked thru the knee high grass in Oklahoma in August to see the headstone. Went back to my car and went around a bend and ran over a 6' ft Western Diamondback.
I would highly recommend looking into doing Arizona next, as Arizona is basically California without an ocean. It is also probably easy to get to, around 60 miles or so north of Phoenix probably.
While your traveling about to each of the states centers, be sure and check out the center of the US (less Hawaii and Alaska) that’s in north central Kansas near the Nebraska border! That’d be a catch! They call it the geographic center of the conterminous U.S.
You can visit the geographic center of Texas - the Texas Highway Department placed a marker on state hwy 377 between Brady and Brownwood - the actual geographic center is five miles the spot on private property.
I really enjoy seeing these "center of" states videos. They're interesting and places not everyone thinks about. Super cool idea, thanks for bringing us along! EDIT: Also, super cool shirt haha.
Fantastic! Finding the exact center of CA had never occurred to me before. I will definitely have to check this out. And just like you, I started wondering about the exact center of other states. But I'll satisfy that curiosity by watching you find them! Good video!
The scenery at the center point is appropriately classic California rolling hills with oaks dotting grassland. ~ This seems like a great project for your channel. As you mentioned, what appears fairly simple and straightforward, may occasionally be quite an adventurous enterprise.
The late great Huell Howser did a show visiting all four corners of California. He might have visited a 5th point in Lake Tahoe. But I don’t think I’ve seen him here.
I love your programs. You are making me pin so many locations that I want to visit (on Google maps). I reserved an Aptera Never Charge solar vehicle with a 1000 mile range just for trips to places you featured. By the time I get the Aptera sometime next year, thanks to you, it is going to be easy to figure out where to go. Can't wait!
Bravo and kudos to you sir. The great state of California owes you a debt. I for one enjoy the videos you make. I live in the east and have traveled extensively throughout this region of which I also am proud of. Keep up the good work.
I'm not sure if my "aunt" still lives in North Fork or not. But I never knew about this spot. But good luck with visiting the center of Nevada. I have to imagine it's in a military base.
My Nevada map says it is about 10 miles south of US 50 half way between Spencer Hot Springs and Bald Mountain.... Just East of the road from US 50 to Belmont Nevada.
For District of Columbia, originally the area was 10x10 miles Square with land taken from Maryland and Virginia. When this was the case, the exact center of DC was under the US Capitol Rotunda. Since the Virginia part was returned in the 1840s, the center of DC is now in a different location.
If you are interested there are THREE exact centers of the USA. All three are located in north central Kansas. However, the exact center of USA population shifts about five miles every ten years based on US census data.
I’ve heard that the way it was determined is to get a cardboard map of California and balance it on the tip of a pencil. At the spot where it is fully balanced on the pencil is the center of the State. I think that would work for other states too.
After doing some research on this it looks like some places use that method to make the claim while others use different methods. Oregon has two places claiming to be the center for that reason.
Great idea for the channel! Welcome to Kentucky when you get here! Some sources say it's in Lincoln County, others say it's in Marion County. Would be good to know which is correct.
Actually to look for Mexico you had to pan South East otherwise you would go into the Pacific Ocean towards Channel Islands, since Southern California Curves toward the East, Still nice Hike and great Adventure 👦🏻👍🏻🏞
That my friend, is NO Pine Tree; it is a Deodar Cedar, a TRUE Cedar, native to the Himalaya Mountain Range, and it does VERY well, as an ornamental tree, throughout the Pacific West. It sure must have taken some very fancy Trigonometry/Geometry/Calculus, for those Cartographers/Surveyors/Engineers of yore, to compute this location. With California being such a funny shape, I don't expect that it was all that easy. And, it also may actually be MORE accurate, than what GPS may tell us.
Love the video as a long time Californian and western states guy. Strange history fyi about North Fork, trivia? It is where serial killer Ed Kemper killed his grandparents back in 1964 their old farm property just outside of DT NF. Weird I know, but true .,.Cheers
When you leave North Fork you take Mammoth Pool road. Go 4.5 miles, at the RV park (Mammoth RV Park) turn right you're on Italian Bar road. BUT these roads also are Numered so you rarely see a road Name. And No One knows the numbers. I lived at this interesection and the general area for 18 years and never knew a number. A friend lives 5 miles past the intersection and he doesn;t know the number assigned to Mammoth Pool rd.... He's lived there since 1969. And just before the Center of Ca you pass "The Spiggots" where a sign says something like '5 Drips and a drop". They feed turkeys and I've seen over 50 turkeys at the place. In 2018 we pulled a c.1936 Chevy out of the debris, it was to become a yard ornament. Only a handfull of people live past the intersection. Dan Gamel of RV / Fitness Fame lived about 15 miles up, had an apple orchard but 2 yrs ago he moved down near town where the mill site is . Other exciting North Fork Facts are it's home to Sam Peckenpah, Edwin Kemper, and South Fork Ca has a 4 room motel....
The geographic center of Wisconsin is about 9 miles southeast of Marshfield, Wisconsin (most likely in a farm field), but the center of the northern hemisphere (where North America is located) is also in a farm field, but a small parking lot and info sign (maintained as a very small park) is nearby on Meridian Road just outside (northwest) of the tiny hamlet of Poniatowski, Wisconsin in Marathon County, Wisconsin.
@@toddnolastname4485 True, but I was referring to the part that has the North American Continent (equal distance between the equator and the north pole part)
For Arizona the exact center of this state is just north of Phoenix. From Camp Creek take N. Sever Spring Rd to Mashakettee Canyon onto National forest Road NFR254. It's in the mountains north of Phoenix in the middle of nowhere but accessible by car if the forest road is maintained?
I took a map of California and folded it from top to bottom and then side to side, in quarters. The center of California looks like it's east of Coalinga off of hwy 5. ?
Finding the exact center of each state is weak sauce - seriously. Neither interesting, challenging, or adventuresome - only for the most bored. How about finding the geographic center of Mexico? Now that would be interesting to follow. Dare ya'. :)
Great video, remember the old episode where Huell Howser found the spot!
Huell Howser actually presented several competing sites ... in states that are not square or a rectangle it’s a lot more challenging than suggested.
He also visited all four corners of California.
Goung to the center of every state is a great idea for the channel!!!
Down this very road you must slow down as you head to the water. There are tarantulas crossing in the autumn and little owls warming on the road in summer and autumn
I see them all the time crossing that road to in the fall

If you're thinking of doing Arizona's next, it's pretty easy to get to...it's in a parking lot in Camp Verde, across the street from a car wash.
Stoked for the exact center videos 💥🔥🔥🔥

Went there 2 days ago with my son. Great little road trip
When searching for the other state centers, remember that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Onward to the centers!
4:15 To visit the Geographic center of Hawaii will necessitate a boat on the ocean.
Thanks for the interesting videos.
Wow I was just going to mention that I drive by the palm and pines all the time 😀
X marks the spot. Connect diagonal lines from NW corner to SE corner and SW to NE.
We have the Bingo!
Cool vid, I live in San Diego, and lived in Fresno. I worked in madera and remember passing by the palm and spruce. Not sure how I learned about it, but knew it symbolized center. 👍

We were just near there a couple months ago too.
Is Arizona really like California? R.I.P. Arizona!
Was just up there camping at redinger lake, was beautiful with all the wildflower blooming and void of crowds.
Looking forward to many more..if l last that long..ha..ha.
Love all your vids...very interesting.

Oh the good old Huell. Blast from the past. He was entertaining.
Great goal! I had a friend who visited every County Seat in the State he was working in! County Seats, was his thing!

Alaska will be tough, but good luck!
Ok u got me hook keep going would like to watch more
Looking forward to these in the coming years! Now I need to find out where the exact center of Indiana is!
Still pristine good spot 👌

Ride my motorcycles through here all the time. Should've went a lil further down to Stevenson Falls.
Thank You

That was great to see thank you for the video. also where are all the people at in CA that's a monument place? No homes your family is beautiful.
Wisconsin it is Pitsville. My dad was from there.
Very Cool, thx!
INTRODUCING; THE NEW HUELL HOWSER !!! CALIFORNIA GOLD!!
Ohio's geographic center is the village of Centerburg in Knox County, population of about 1700. I hope you make it there someday.
Onward!!
Pratt's Hollow New York :-)
Awesome 👍 thanks ❤️

Thanks. I think a lot of these we'll just have to get as close as we possibly can due to being on private property.
The think the center of the northern hemisphere is the north pole.
@@toddnolastname4485 True, but I was referring to the part that has the North American Continent (equal distance between the equator and the north pole part)

you think with the plates moving it wouldn’t be the center anymore ?
BTW The center of Montana is in the Yogo Inn in Lewistown.
I took a map of California and folded it from top to bottom and then side to side, in quarters. The center of California looks like it's east of Coalinga off of hwy 5. ?
actually since you are still east of 120 degrees west you are looking north towards Nevada then Oregon
Love this!
Theres Another One With A Palm Tree That Represents SOCAL, And Theres Another Tree And It Is The Pine Tree. It Represents As NORCAL.
Fun idea, you'll need a boat for Hawaii.
We looked it up and Wikipedia had a list of state centers. Some might be a little challenging. Alaska especially.
Just look for the center of the whirlpool when they flush it!
I used to be a deputy sheriff there.
Go Pads!
This is our year!
You mean to tell me it’s not Hollyweird 😂😂
Used to live in N.F.
Awesome! 👍🏽
Thanks! 👍
How about Michigan, upper peninsula and lower Michigan ?
I know St. Louis, is the center of the lower peninsula, but I haven't looked into the upper or where the center of the whole state is yet.
I’m curious, you’re in the center of the state going north south but are you in the center of the state going east west also?
No, its closer to Nevada than it is to the pacific.
MARYLAND IS IN THE CENTER OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY!!
Don't forget the exact center of the continental USA. There are several of them out there...
Let me know the middle of Hawaii. That might be a challenge
Its in the ocean apparently. Will need a boat.
You mean its not in Sacramento?
Near Fresno?
Not too far from Fresno.
That wasn’t nearly as exciting as I thought it would be.
Why don't you say equal distance from Nevada and the Pacific Ocean?
Its closer to Nevada than the Pacific.
You're at the center of Cali!
Not halfway between Mexico and Oregon....
Sorry bro!
DC will be easy, it's the center of the US Capitol Rotunda.
Wow, I've actually been there as a kid then.
Finding the exact center of each state is weak sauce - seriously. Neither interesting, challenging, or adventuresome - only for the most bored. How about finding the geographic center of Mexico? Now that would be interesting to follow. Dare ya'. :)
