- My favorite Hey Joe of all time. Extended intro featuring "Taps", funkiest opening chords of any version, "Day Tripper" reference, it has it all. This particular audio file has obviously been recorded from a "tape to tape" conversion with mismatched pitch controls - playback is too fast (not way too fast, but definitely noticeable). I have a better copy on cassette, but for now this will do. Enjoy.
What a legend, I'm still mesmerized by his guitar playing skills, they'll never be another Hendrix in my life time.
He was so good....either he practised 16 hours per day for 10 years straight or it was God given....something doesn't add up.
Never again in the worlds life time 💜☮️💯🇺🇸
FINALLY I found this version in good quality!
What a glorious intro!! Just gorgeous. A full-throated electric guitar scream to the heavens: Yeeeaaaaahhh!! Makes me so happy.😁
Jimi played Hey Joe the three times I saw him in Detroit. One of my all-time favorites by "The Man with the Guitar".
Jimi changed the entire sound of Rock and Roll music and the way electric guitar would be played forever..
(Jimi) Hendrix was light years ahead of everyone... and still is.
Absolute genius master... no one comes near the man... unbelievable mind blowing guitar playing
Grande Jimy!!! Non mi stancherò Mai di Sentire Le Sue Canzoni 👌👌👌
I've been searching for this version for YEARS, 13 to be exact. Thank you so much for posting.
I was searching for about a year before I found it again. In this version it's not just the greatest Jimi song but in my opinion it's the greatest rock song ever.
Jimi is extremely interesting on this rendition of one of the songs he claimed to be 'tired' of performing live due to the expectations of his audience and recording contracts. Perhaps he was beginning to 'escape' former commitments for recordings, Peace & Love
2017, and this still being so amazing. Thanks for your the music of your heart Jimi.
I remember i was 15 years old at the time iwas watching woostock at television! One year before The Great Jimmi dies in London.i am now 68 ! I know he is buried in Seattle.Rest in Peace Great Jimmi!!! You do deserve it!!!!!!
I am also 68 years old. The day he died, they reported it on the 10p.m. Evening News where I lived, in Dallas. I had gone to bed a little bit earlier than that, so when it came on the news, my mom came into my room, woke me up, and took me out to watch the news broadcast. I was in shock. I think when I went back to bed I cried a little bit. My hero was gone!
@@willg54 i do understand the way you reacted! God Bless you!
Wow. Thank you for posting this. I have a new favorite version of Hey Joe now. You know that feeling you get when you've heard all the old Hendrix performances and you're brain is used to that and then you hear a new one. It blows you away all over again.
Agreed! Although no matter how many times I hear any version of a Hendrix song I always find something new in it. Hard to explain but is true.
Cheech Chong
You're right, man. It is true. And the reason is because the well of genius is inexhaustible. This is why, hundreds of years later, we still love Mozart and Shakespeare. Hendrix will undoubtedly be the same.
intergalacticman2012 Yes, the man is timeless! And his genial work will live on and on and on.
I used to sit in the crews bar when i first went to sea and this would be on im the morning (cd on repeat) and fuck it was good
Love the photos ❤
Jimi's playing....
Leaves me speechless 🎸🔥
This is by far the very best version of Hey Joe that Hendrix performed. I've been searching for this for years. Had it on a extremely rare bootleg cd I had as a teenager (90's) that I lost in a house move.
The solo...sooo heartfelt. Such emotion. The cool intro...
This really is by far the definitive Hey Joe in my book.
Thank you for posting it. All I had to go on was a small clue in the lyrics that it was a Sweden performance. I've been searching and searching...
yeah, mitch mitchell is an absolute beast here too
Nah. The Atlanta Pop version from 1969 has it beat. His end solo will knock you out. The Isle of Wight performance is also fantastic.
I agree Jamie, This has allways been my fave version! Awsome intro and unique fierce solo
Erm...nope. Not at all. Atlanta is pedestrian compared to this version. He's just going through the motions at Atlanta. This version has heaps more emotion. The Atlanta version is started quickly, ended quickly...like he just wanted to get it over with, which by mid '69, he did.
You nailed it. It couldn't possibly be any better Sheer, overwhelming tour de force of emotion .Brilliant intro. Just too cool.
One of the HEAVIEST versions, I used to have this on an Italian import disc. Have since lost it....but now I HAVE FOUND IT!! Thanks SHMAZO!!
And to think it’s even sped up a bit haha
Been covered by many. But this is the best. Died to young.
ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!
Similar version as he is playing in the Winterland recordings (1968). Almost same epic intro.
Yes, it is a very god version, we used to refer to it as "the double Hey" in the early 80s, recorded at the Concert Hall Stockholm 1969 by the National Broadcasting service (Sveriges radio)//Chris
Putain. Saturation max . Jimmy légende ❤❤❤ Hey. Jo 2024. Toujours 😁🤣 pour nous . Hendrix immortel à jamais ❤❤ Pour les générations suivantes. La vrai musique , de nos chères années psychologique psychose.❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
Man, been looking this versions for days!!! Thanks a lot for posting it.
God bless you and all of course godzzz are. God love respect and be real Mr Jimi Hendrix never died he multiple the spirit of the guitar 🎸 now dig this
04:22
Did he say instead of mexico, Sweden?
4:22 " i'm going to sweden baby" lol
no swedish girls on the bed; 'mama' Cass Elliott and in the middle 'mama' Michelle Philips from The Mama's and the Papa's
1:04 Remember that picture in a guitar magazine from the late 80s.
Timeless.
OMG fabulous
Thanks for this. As far as I know, this take and the Lulu show performance are the only two recordings that Jimi plays the extended intro. Oh, I assume this recording is from the second show?
There is a similar version on the Lulu show . I think it was recorded in Feb 1969 . That recording was lost for 7 years but it is available on RUclips . 👌
The Legend jimi
Jimi in a Corvette yes
this IS the definitive version of hey joe.
Fue un chingonazo para el requinto.mi compa henrix.good miusic.hey joe.
I used to paly this at evergreen cemetery...before they moved him.
magnifico photos
My name joe used to get tease over yrs
@2:40 the riff is a reference to "I Feel Fine"... @2:52 it's "Day Tripper"
DISCOGOTHTHEJAZZFAN Extremely well noted. Intricate subtleties such as this define the genius and respect which Jimi portrayed throughout his career.
Thanks, Man! And yep: agreed, totally.
Well said!
Jimi H 🎸💎👌
There's a little kid in the audience. Love this version. I've spent time in Sweden, what's the building at the end?
Fabulous👍👍👍👍👍👍
hey Joe is about my guitar playing
This recording is solidly in E flat, which I though Jimi tuned down to.... What sort of evidence is there that this was played in D?
search "hey joe live hq" it's the first video that comes up I think
I found the evidence in the film of the first (somewhat lackluster) show a few hours earlier on Jan 9 `69. Apparently he is tuned two half-steps down to D. Presumably, he played the second show the same way.
I have a bootleg CD that has this on it, I know the tempo is slower on mine( so is in D), but not sure which is correct?!!
A phenomenon....
✌️
eh?why didn't they just change it to hi john?hi John!what are doing for Christmas?nowt,I've got no money mate.!what was Billy Roberts thinking ?we could have a great old time!
Age 9 1969 😊
To trow sweet 😅
Hendrix toute ma vie de musique
wow fkn hell
The freedom to create can can cannabis. Canabliss . Hendrix.
Why do you have an image of a building on Phillips Academy at the end?
The guy in the picture at 1.37 seems Brian Jones, is he?
Yes
Quien fue el vijilante que le dió dos no me gusta a este dios. Que temaso hermano el mejor de lo mejor y negro . Cómo yo tiene que ser
Sold as jimi
black star bottle caps surrounding his original resting place.
This is the tour that Noel Redding purposely played too loud and sometimes badly, ‘to put Jimi off’. Noel admitted as much in his book. It didn’t work this time.
Dude was such an ungrateful cu*k lol
Fukn A
Actually I am losing my hearing standing next to Marshall amps and a little bit of LSD for you and me
Hope everyone brought earplugs
Woodstock
Blackman hi do it
Or any
But the sound of guitar is not a big amplifier as 100w marshall of Jimi, its more of using overdrive not the booster of an big amp…maybe some copy guitarist, who has the same vocal sound, I quess this tape is from Sweden i. 80’s and the guitarist singer is maybe Yull Andersen, I’ve heard him playing in Helsinki in 89 and he sounded just like on this tape.
