Let me try to explain why the ending was not "rushed". By the time Samus reaches Hanubia, she is no longer "horrified" and begins to freely parry EMMI. The red EMMI was an indication that nothing would stop Samus now. When Samus fights Raven Beak on Itorash, he defeats her and tells her that he is going to clone Samus as a bioweapon to use for his plan to bring order to the galaxy. In the manga, Samus had a fear that she might be used as a bioweapon by the Chozo, and in fact there is no family between them. Samus was horrified and felt DREAD when she was listening these words from her DNA donor and that he was going to use her to establish a "Galactic Peace" as it was the Chozo's mission and her ancestral destiny to fulfill their dreams. Life forces began to leave Samus. She nearly gave up when her hatred to Raven Beak and the Metroids' hatred to Mawkins came together. She mutated into a Metroid and struck down Raven Beak with all her rage. The reason she didn't consume Raven Beak X is because she doesn't want anything to do with him. Also the reason why the planet started the process of self-destruction is because Raven Beak planned to blow up ZDR after he captured Samus on Itorash, since the planet is completely infested with Parasite X. You can guess this if you pay attention to how Adam (Raven Beak) says that the planet needs to be blown up. (He just surreptitiously revealed his real intentions) Famicom Detective Club stuff, baby.

I wouldn't add anything post the Ravenbeak fight. Rather, I would add more before it, after you get the power bomb. Before your fight with Ravenbeak, add 1 area that is a final gauntlet where you have to use all of your abilities, both in movement and in combat. You can have an X parasite that mimics previous enemies and bosses you fought as a boss of that area. In a way serves as a skill check before you fight the final boss, reminding you of all the abilities you have to make sure you are ready for the final boss.

I think dread had a god ending. Basically you were fighting the best warrior the chozo race had to offer yet and the only way to beat him was with plot and obtaning the strongest power in the metroid universe. Samus became a beacon of hope and a destroyer as well. The best they can do is a scene where the galactic federation notices Samus is in fact a full metroid and they want to capture her at all cost.

    • @DerGeileGangster

would heavily favor my favorite line in the game, where the "Adam" Nav Computer speaks about the Changes in Samus and how she is now considered a Metroid and therefore a thread to the universe. They make this a silent scene, zoom in on the aspect and you really felt the weight behind those words. You spent so many games killing those "strongest warriors" to now be at the turning point where you are what you hunted. It would leave room for a new balance between the interactions of the federation and samus, as well as give opportunity for other Bounty Hunters to be set on hunting Samus (would give the whole chase between Samus and the guy from "Hunters" a whole new perspective, like "I was hired by the federation to keep an eye on you, but since you are now a Metroid, the Federation pays me a huge amount to strike you down."
Thats also the biggest thing i was missing in the credits. Having no real information as of what Samus now is with the Reverse from the X, as well as how the rest of the universe will look at her. Will she still be a bounty hunter? (i mean, she now is considered the "strongest warrior"). Will clients not take her out of fear that she is a universe destroying entity that can basically absorb anything she touches to absorb and enhance herself? Will this also be a new aspect as of why Samus gains powers in the upcoming games? (Usually felt a bit odd that all the chozo statues usually give you the things you already had, like Plasma, varia, gravity, bombs, etc.) They could make it that you power yourself up to regenerate lost abilities or just simply absorb aspects of enemies that use them, instead of killing and looting bugs to get bombs?

I know people get ideas for things they watch or play and come up with ideas they would like to see happen. A lot of what was talked about sounds like a rom hack idea (if that's even possible with Dread). I think the main issue I take with a lot of fan ideas is how it goes against what has been established, not just story, but fundamentally changes who a character is and what they are like throughout the story.
I'm not saying this does that, but It could easily stray from what we know of the characters. It reminds me of someone's take on the Trunks character from Dragon Ball Z. I forget what it was exactly the suggested, but I remember the idea completely ignored EVERYTHING that made Trunks, Trunks, and showed they lacked even the most basic understanding of both his character and the struggles he lived through up to that point.
I think the ideas presented in this could become a game itself, and I think Nintendo made this game the way it is so they'd have a vast amount of options for future games without painting themselves into a corner. We won't know until Metroid 6 what that looks like.

Well if we are giving Raven Beak a warship like place... why not have a biolab on it that is showing signs of new samus's being grown? I mean might be too Res evil vibs or Vitality vibs but hey it is what Raven Beaks plan is... to use the planet as sort of a samus metroid playground.

  • @ghosty2548
    @ghosty2548 Год назад +89

I'm gonna be honest while I like the addition of a context for destroying the planet and everything pre Raven Beak fight... everything else feels too much...
Like this is the exact problem I have for stories of Zero Mission and Samus Returns. The extra content that is fun as gameplay but really really anti climactic and damaging for the pacing of the story.
Like Mecha Ridley in Zero Mission feels way too apart in that games story same with Ridley in SR and to me sadly in this what if.
Metroid Suit is cool yes but it's cool factor comes from it also acting as a Hyper Beam type suit. To me you shouldn't have an extra big section with that suit. Only thing I would've wanted is a New Game Plus option for it.
Same with Raven Beak. Original Raven Beak fight simply is the best final boss in the series with it feeling that final with all the build up. And suddenly taking away the final boss spot from him to show a x version of him waaaaaay later feels like a really pointless extra that damages the games pacing hard.
The thing also hurts with this rewrite is literally making an entire section of the game just action without collecting anything. Which would again feel pace breaking A LOT. Even if the idea is "showing" this sections dark atmosphere.
I would simply add some of this extra stuff before the final fight with Raven Beak and change nothing about that fight.

I would say this feels both unnecessary and unneeded. Once you defeat Raven Beak, you feel that sense of accomplishment, you feel like you finish the game, that is why when he transforms, you only need the beam the kill him and then to escape.
Having to go for an extra hour or three pass the "final boss" will feel like padding and kill the momentum, having to fight another boss after Raven Beak will make him feel like a mid boss instead of the final boss he is, not to mention that Samus in her Metroid form is meant to feel powerful, so much that she can't fully contain the power, nerfing that in order to be able to explore an extra area would make the whole overpower point mute.
To me the ending was perfect and it would have definitely sour my experience if after that moment of "yes I beat him" I would have to spend and extra hour to three more to finish the game.

More time with the metroid suit was the main thing I wanted, but I understand why they didn't. Its reveal in the Raven Beak fight was pivotal to the climax, and hanging around after what has been clearly built as the final boss just wouldn't feel right. It would end up requiring some more fundamental changes to the plot. Nonetheless, great video.

I love the name "Jutanka", it sounds like an expansion of the word "Junk." Perhaps just like how Elun is a decrepit version of Hanubia, Jutanka is a much more messy, decrepit but more highly advanced Dairon? Maybe because it was thrown together during desperate circumstances- they NEEDED to rush this facility. It just needs to be technologically advanced, not pretty. Keeping it clean and inhabitable is not an priority, creating Metroids is all that matters. It would be an interesting way of visually demonstrating how the Mawkin's priorities are kept even when the world is falling apart around them as a result. "Power is everything" to a detrimental degree.
Also, personally, I think it'd be WAY more interesting if Raven Beak DID get infected by the X parasite upon Itorash crashing... but you didn't kill him, or even fight him right away, for that matter. Perhaps he escapes and, as you explore Jutanka, occasionally you hear crashes or booms in the distance, or other signs of his presence lurking around the facility. Entirely conscious of his goals even despite his monsterous form. Still thinking, planning, looking for things. Both Samus and Raven Beak by this point would be exploring the same decrepit facility after undergoing a major transformation.
Also I'd kill for a Raven Beak playable story. He has a power suit, so gameplay wouldn't be that different. Honestly you could even make it into a full game to add onto Dread.

  • @MorganSaph

This would be a great DLC. Nintendo won't ever make it, but it would be the extra content would be great and capitalises on some missed opportunities. I particularly like the bit with Quiet Robe. Showing the X version reliving Quiet Robe's recent life would further solidify why it let's Samus absorb it in the end cutscene. That reason being the X essentially became a duplicate of him. (Which I noticed you mentioned in a caption at 19:19)

  • @Thechozochampion
    @Thechozochampion Год назад +5

First of all I would've exploit the presence of Silent Robe a little more like having a specific mission of seeking something for him before returning to his location and then he gets killed by the chozo robot then the Jutanka location I think could've been the federation ship that we can see at the far of Hanubia and where the EMMIS came, there the red EMMI would have its own maze and EMMI zone also we would have fought a Mother Brain/Aurora Unit boss like to gain the armor shield aeon ability from Samus Returns and finally the end I think the section of overcharging the Cataris reactor is a nice argument to destroy the planet and the final boss with Raven Beak I would extend only a 1 phase boss fight with Raven Beak X having the ability of transforming into other bosses and at the end having the secuence of the Kraid like Raven Beak just to escape the planet. Also with the rewards I think the chozo memories should be 30s cutscenes from each area, also that we could unlock all 2D aesthetic suits as rewards from speed, damage taken, and % completed such as Super Metroid, Fusion, Samus Returns and so on and finally having a Zero Suit Samus cutscene at the end of the game. I think this could've been a much much better game than what we end up having wich don't get me wrong, Metroid Dread is still a masterpiece as it is.

Yeah the endgame felt kinda rushed but I thought it was amazing. One of the best final hours in a nintendo game for me. I think the story on its own wrapped it greatly. Yeah there couldve been changes to fit more and feel less "go go get to the end" but I still enjoyed it. Only part i think that they desperately needed was something like fusion where we see adam or samus' thoughts after the whole thing
I also think they wrapped up the saga by Samus taking out a chozo and one that's been built up to. All while getting rid of the X and Metroids completely. Samus being the last Metroid is also amazing, her literally becoming the title name of the series and living up to the "Ultimate Warrior" title. Metroids are gone but will always be in the story via Samus

I would add to the post credits scene is that Anthony Higgs (with a new armor) appears behind Samus and says something to her and then they walks towards the camera in a heroic way. Kinda foreshadowing the new story in which Samus Aran and Anthony Higgs are both Bounty Hunters on an adventure and seemingly on the run from the Federation which are now fully corrupt and now threatens the galaxy.

Very cool idea. But I don't think the Federation as a whole are corrupt. More or less, they have been compromised. The Pirate Log entries in Prime 3 mention they have double agents and conspirators within the Federation. The so-called Ringleaders in Other M could be a part of the Pirate Conspiracy. Metroids have the potential for incredible breakthroughs in Medical Science but the Conspiracy has other ideas. Who knows, while they never intended MB to go rogue, they most likely decided to take advantage of her delivering the Bottle Ship's bioweapon cargo to attack the Federation Capital on Earth so they use it as coup overthrow the higher-ups.

It makes the removal of the suit at the end seem like more of a plot copout for future games instead of a neccesity and relief for the rest of the galaxy. One thing I enjoyed about the breakneck pace of Hanubia is that it effectively communicates how awakened Samus is becoming uncontrollably powerful, a fact that makes Raven Beak's of a samus army more tangible

As they would still at first act on instinct to kill the metroids by any means as seen from the scientist back on the space station. I see an alternate timeline in which Dread’s ending plays out as you’ve written it here, and in your review of the game, you have negative feelings about the ending.
There is no better ending they could have written than closing the game almost immediately after the battle against Raven Beak. Not only is it one of the best boss fights in the series, it’s one of the best final bosses in any video game ever. Putting anything after it, especially a second fight against Raven Beak (a character who is shown to be *so determined* to defeat you that he rips off one of his wings in the final battle because it would get in the way), would turn the most tense moment in the entire series into a non-climax. The ending of the game comes quickly because Raven Beak orchestrated the whole scenario, and the instant Samus displayed her Metroid abilities nothing else was necessary, so he funnels her to him.
He knows Samus can’t (won’t) leave without exterminating the X; that’s why he directs her to open the fortress they’re locked in. Samus would *never* willingly leave ZDR without going to Raven Beak, not even for a “bad ending”.
The ending is fast because making it fast was the correct choice.

My slight grip with it is that it was mainly an improvement over Fusion instead of Super; but thankfully it retrieved back what was lost with SRR. Less teleporters and more connected rooms and corridors would have been more welcomed, and a return to sequence breaking that wasn't intended but a pure result of emerging gameplay beyond what the devs intend would have been a good start... (also for the love of god Sakamoto, give back single wall-jumping and don't force inertia. And return moonwalk.)
Dread especially offering ways to tackle certain bosses in a different order would have been even better to break the rail-roadish progression at times. Still, Metroid's back on the right tracks, that's always a pleasure.

Saying your ideas are very nice would be an understatement, and probably redundant at force.
But either way, I'm still going to do it because I literally cannot shut up and I love them too much.
Expanding Hanubia was indeed necessary, its size was underwhelming to say the least, and adding a mechanism specific to Hanubia really adds to the exploration and gameplay. This would allow the player to appreciate the Wave Beam even more, even though I'm still sad the Plasma Beam isn't the last beam or that the Wave Beam doesn't spin anymore.
Where I think some ideas are diverging is when it comes to the E.M.M.I. zones. I do love the maze theme you talked about, but I do wonder how playable it would be with the E.M.M.I.'s ability if it stuns you like in the cutscene. Something to avoid that issue would be if it only used it once it gets close to you (like a few meters away instead of a whole other room), using shortcuts you can only access with the Morph Ball after the zone is cleared.
As for the Central Unit, I personally believe it would be nice to get to fight against it, perhaps with some new attacks or mechanics to spice things up. Once you absorb its energy and get the Omega Canon, you exit the room but the E.M.M.I. is not here. You run forward a bit until a Power Bomb is dropped from somewhere and it stuns you, leaving the E.M.M.I. to get out of a shortcut on top of you and catch Samus.
She would still absorb its energy before the Red Chozo Soldier appears (I don't think you mentioned it on your video, I don't remember already) and you fight it.
It could have a slightly different move set, standing still for a few seconds at some point to destroy its shield with the Omega Stream and Omega Canon before absorbing the X, and getting the Power Bomb, removing the Omega Canon at the same time.
As for the locks, perhaps they could be hidden in the E.M.M.I. zones, being only accessible after using Power Bombs, making the player enjoy its usage for exploration on top of accessing Energy Tanks, Missiles Tanks, and Power Bomb tanks.
Samus would then fight Raven Beak, although I would make the fight a bit shorter, removing Phase 3, and instead replacing it with a quick cutscene where Samus thinks she's got the upper hand but gets caught. She awakens her Metroid DNA, but the energy absorption for Raven Beak would be less brutal (for reasons seen later).
Afterwards, once Itorash crashes and Samus wakes up, she finds herself in her Metroid Suit before it lights up and disappears, revealing a fully healed version of the Power Suit (I would imagine something like the Gravity Suit from SR but with silver instead of yellow and the Metroid dots on the back of the suit). Samus would feel tired because of the massive change in her, before standing up and going forth into Jutanka, meeting the real Adam and all.
Now, whenever she uses the melee counter to parry, she could either shoot her opponent or charge at it and absorb its energy.
Everything is basically the same, except she could get the Aeion abilities Raven Beak used, so the Electric Armor and the Beam Burst (replacing the beam buff in a way) and perhaps even the Ice Beam considering Raven Beak would have needed it to make Metroids more docile. Once she finds the elevator to Cataris, she can explore the planet again, and even go back to her ship to recharge her health and ammo before continuing down the road.
The shields that Samus must absorb in your video would behave a bit differently. Samus could choose between absorbing their energies, and therefore allowing the X-Parasites access to the rooms previously inaccessible, or passing through them, which would still lock the X-Parasites away, but would deactivate some of Samus' abilities, keeping players on their toes.
Absorbing the shields would allow access to the X-Parasites, going into the next rooms but also making the enemies harder, perhaps even adding some mini-bosses that wouldn't be here had Samus just passed through the shield.
Not having the Metroid Suit would not strip Samus of her missiles or her Aeion abilities, meaning there wouldn't be a drastic change of gameplay that could ruin the fun in some way.
Then, we get to the new Experiment Boss. Things would stay the same, except I would have Quiet Robe-X struggling a bit, as if his Thoha DNA was affecting the X-Parasite in some way (I would love to discuss it more on your Discord server if you're willing to listen, I'm Nep or @NepDoesArt).
Samus defeats the experiment and meets Raven Beak, visibly weakened, but still standing.
This is where Phase 3 of the fight would come, having an even stronger Samus fighting against Raven Beak. This time, the phase would end with Samus restricting Raven Beak's arm canon either with her hand or with the Ice Beam. Either way, the two are locked together, hands against arm canons, before Samus feels a surge of Adrenaline and the Metroid Suit begins to appear, making its appearance awaited with visual cues during the cutscene.
Samus would then absorb the Hyper Beam and get back. Raven Beak would try and shoot, but the arm canon's tip explodes, leaving the canon to disappear and leaving him vulnerable to any X, unable to destroy them. He would get infected, and then everything else would be the same as in your video.
The only thing I would change for the post-credit scene is some of the names on the Chozo Sanctuary. If I recall correctly, Old Bird and Platinum Chest survived Zebes in the Manga, thanks to Samus and her friends, although Grey Voice sacrificed himself.
If I'm not wrong, then I would remove those names, and make them bow with Samus in front of the sanctuary to honour those who fell. The scene would then end with Samus speaking Chozo, probably something like "May you finally rest, my friend."
Overall, those are the "only" changes I would make with the scenario you proposed, but honestly, I would have never imagined all of this had it not been for your amazing work.
I always love watching your videos, being informative, fun, and overall very enjoyable to watch.
I do hope you'll have a great day and I thank you for reading my comment!

I think gameplay-wise your idea is good but story-wise it needs a lot of work.
For example Samus despised the Mawklin tribe enough to destroy Raven beak utterly rather than unlock his massive potential power for herself, it would be the other tribe's armor she might honor.

    • @michaellane5381

As far as continuations... I personally hope our next game we don't play as Samus, but rather we "awaken" in a pod with no armor(zero suit), with "memories" up until Samus woke up on ZDR to find the power fluctuating in the facility and other "Samus" Zero suits with similar experiences being hunted by 2 Mawklin X and what we think is an SA-X, only to endgame twist that we were created by a facility on auto-pilot by Raven beak during the events of Dread and the X found us to destroy us just like they did in Fusion, then Samus found us and assumed we were X she had tracked from ZDR, allowing the game to offer multiplayer experiences in puzzles and reboot the series without forcing Samus to lose power while also having an SA-X level threat without the threat being the X.

Dread felt super rushed at the end. The game also never really followed up on Samus going rouge. That was the hook fans were most excited about after Fusion but instead it's about some chozo who was only ever retroactively included into the series via s remake. Sequentially Dread is a Fusion sequel but narrativly it feels like a Samus Retuns sequel as weird as that sounds.

As cool as this is, I actually don't mind the one we got (and you said as much). However, getting there is what bothers me. It feels like the dev team had two different ideas for the game, and they tore the ending off of one version and stitched it to the body of the other. My biggest complaint is Adam. At what point did Adam become Raven Beak? It feels super out of the blue because there isn't a portion of the game I can point to and go, "Aha! I didn't catch that at first, but it all makes sense now!" I also wish we had just *one* more glimpse of Samus awakening her Metroid powers prior to her getting jumped by that random animal in Hanubia. Lastly, I really felt like the self-destruction of the planet was out of place. Like, yeah, Itorash crashed into the surface. That was enough to make the planet go nuclear? That doesn't seem right to me. But, other than that, baller game, baller what-if, and if I was talented enough to do this myself, I would.

I'm just glad that Metroid Dread proved itself and did so well, saleswise. Hopefully that'll mean that we get an ending that isn't rushed next time, especially with the rumors running around that they're already working on Metroid 6.
As for the video's scenario, I definitely love it. The Metroid Suit being just a countdown sequence upgrade works well enough since Super Metroid also did a super powered form for its escape sequence, so using the suit in such a way worked fine as a callback to Super. Heck, even the playable Raven Beak mini story would be awesome. I'm just glad that Metroid is in good hands now.

My problem with the ending of dread is that it introduced raven beak and killed him same game. He's an "evil chozo" hell him just being a living chozo is enough to keep him around for one more game at least. Samus honestly got a bit too strong, too fast, too soon in the context of the game. At the very least it can be said that without metroid ex machina raven beak was never gonna lose to Samus, but he did so what now? Sylux better step up his game if he's gonna be any kind of threat in a future title.

The Chozo end up fighting against the Space Pirates but...what if the Chozo ARE the Space Pirates and Mother Brain simply mutated the non-scientific side of the Chozo Civilization into more easily controllable creatures, pretty much deleted the Chozo out of them and is using that advanced race to do all the powerful things she manages to accomplish.
