      Yeah it only takes a few months to start losing everything. Especially with the harder non-prescription painkillers such as Hydrocodone. OxyContin is as bad as heroin and I’m sure Staley used it as well. If he was mixing with benzodiazepines, he’s lucky to have made it as long as he did…

    Last several photos are inaccurate. Those were taken in the fall of 98, layne completely withdrew from public life from 99 til his death in 02. The last photo is an artistic rendering of the last pic ever taken of layne holding his nephew, which his family has never released publicly.

    • @karoonboomie2813
      @karoonboomie2813 2 года назад +50

      Ikr, also the last pic with his new nephew in February 2002, it looks like it was sketched by a art coal pencil and it shows a top row of teeth from his profile, Layne had no front upper/lower teeth from the late 90s till his death.

    Heart breaking. For y'all that don't know...Layne's father disappeared without a trace when he was 7 yrs old. He was told his dad died...but he didn't. This was Layne's downfall. When he was 9 yrs old he already knew he wanted to be a rock star...thinking his Dad would find him. Sadly, at 21, his Dad came bk. But after claiming sobriety he quickly talked Layne into buying them heroin. Layne's life was destroyed looking for a POS father...then that father used him and sank him into a heroin fueled depression that would eventually take his life. This is one of the saddest stories in Rock to one of its greatest singers. I'm just touching on the facts. #RIPLayne

      @@james_the_animator no its common knowledge in books etc. That was THE PAIN OF LAYNE'S LIFE. Between 7-21 he had no idea if his Dad was dead or alive. He just vanished. N like I said before when Layne was only 9 yo he wrote that he wanted to be a rock star. For the sole purpose of luring his father out of the shadows and unfortunately that's what happened. When Layne was 21 n long gone his Dad saw him on a magazine cover. Found him. Said he left the fam so his addiction probs wouldn't interfere. Claimed to be sober. Then almost instantly used Layne to score dope n sent Layne from death's door into destruction

    Amazing voice unlike any other. You don't need drugs. If you have the talent, its something you're born with or worked hard at developing over time. The drugs arent neccessary. Experimenting with herb or "open your mind" type things, in the name of creativity is one thing. Full fledged addiction to hard drugs is something entirely different. Stay away from drugs. They don't help creativity. They destroy everything and everyone in their path and have absolutely no mercy. You'll notice often that these artists who are mad talented and creative...once they are shackled by hard drugs, not alot of new quality material gets produced and eventually, nothing at all.

    Just for a moment in 2001, he almost looked like his self as he did in 94-96. Any time after 96... He was unrecognizable. Last photo that was ever taken of him was him in very very early 02, holding his baby nephew with a big smile on his face. Who wouldve thought his mom would sit next to him just in April of that year. His body was just sitting there on the couch. She talked to him and said how sorry she was and said she never thought she would see the day that she would have to bury her own son.
    On the other hand, Layne was lied to when he was a child about his sh***y dad being "dead". When Layne was all grown up and famous, here comes that so called " dead" POS father. Lets his son do drugs... Watch the poor young man go into a slow downfall. This world misses you, Layne. You didn't waste your talent... You gave it for the world to see and hear for years and years... If I were to grind my teeth, I'd only do that when crying. I don't do drugs and never will. I promise to my mother and entire family. I know how it is to lose someone so close. My grandma (64) first when I was 18, hit too hard. Three years later, would be my Grandpa's (81).... Now imagine how I'll feel when I lose my parents and what's left of my two grandparents.
    Im still going strong at 22, grunge and metal music in general is my therapy music. The one of few escapes from reality. I was born in the wrong generation, I know it and so do my parents. I'd save Layne, Chris, Demri, Andrew, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie, Neil, Eddie Van, Chester, and the list goes on. Bless the surviving members of each band. Y'all are legends.

    I'm not going to lie I have never seen those photos before. Had I known this video would have those photos in it I wouldn't have watched it.
    It's not that I haven't seen these photos because I don't know very much about Layne Staley. He's been my favorite singer since I first heard him driving to the beach with my dad when I was I think 7 years old. The only reason why I remember it that it was seven it was because it was right before my birthday that I heard that song. I was hooked from that point. I wake up 4ish of the seven mornings every single week listening to Alice in chains. I've done this since before the inception of RUclips. But I purposely and carefully made sure not to look at any of his photos prior to 1996 cuz I knew what I would see because I'm a recovering addict myself. But not heroin it was fentanyl. June 18th of this year was 10 years clean for me When I've lost quite a few friends as well and it's just not something that I wanted to see in regards to lame and now I can't unsee it.
    I truly wished that I did not watch this video.

    Gen X, here. '75. I often think of the Grunge/Alt scene of the '90s and all the awesome that came with being young and free during those years, but I eventually get around to thinking just how many icons of our time are no longer walking this rock and it saddens me to the point of actually feeling my stomach involuntarily twist up. I'm beginning to think that none of our 1990s musical greats are going to survive to old age. Layne, Kurt, Cris, Dolores, Shannon, Scott, Taylor, etc. The Hip Hop/R&B are no strangers to the untimely loss of performers, either - Biggie, Easy E, DMX, Coolio, Left Eye, Tupac, Nipsey, Ad Rock, Aaliyah, Prince, etc., the list just doesn't end. At this point we should probably start a Go Fund Me to get Eddie Vedder a Popemobile and Secret Service detail.
