actually the reason we may call him an idiot is because we know what happens next but if you were present there as a commoner you'd understand that the horrors of WW1 were still fresh and many people along with chamberlain wanted to prevent any sought of large-scale conflict they can to protect their people.Even if they were resolved to not give-in to Hitler's demands and fight germany if needed the fact was many people were still not in support to fight in another war.

This is stupid explaination...why then did Hitler take the entire Czechoslovakia? He promised only to take the Germany speaking regions but later proceeded to Prague and took the entire country against the initial agreement with the UK. As if that's not enough he went on to attack Poland. Poland never attacked Germany in the first place. Hitler wanted the war and he got what he wanted.
