My stomach dropped and my heart rate increased when I heard the first moment of this. It’s hard to believe that just hearing his voice, still has all the impact of a roller coaster.
The video footage is from Pinkpop in 1992. It was the first time I saw them live. I saw them again in 2008 and 2018 at Pinkpop, and will again this year June 18th. Can’t wait 😝
Good morning from New England...Eddie has always had such a distinctive voice and of all the massive GRUNGE bands he's the only singer that's still alive...AIC AND P.J. ARE THE ONLY GRUNGE BANDS THAT ARE STILL ACTIVE...GREAT VID...PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST
This was so cool! I thought in the first verse that it was just him doing acapella and I thought "Damn! The audience is being super respectful and not making a peep!" LOL I absolutely adore his voice - SO unique! And he sounds like the studio version. Dang! OH yay - guitar! :) Whip that hair, you gorgeous man!
That was amazing Ken, that's one of my favorite Pearl Jam concerts!! Eddie Vedder is incredible, love love your reaction!! Thank you for sharing this awesome video and your thoughts and reactions. 😊🤘✌️
Great reaction as usual! Gonna ask again cuz I don’t give up but while you’re back in the grunge scene can u pretty please check out Chris Cornell’s When I’m Down live at the Troubadour. Just him and a piano. Bluesy and amazing 💕
Your note about singing just above or below the note is characteristic of the grunge genre and what it was commenting on at the time. Guitarists would tune their instruments above or below the standard tuning, as a way to flip the bird as it were, and to be a bit cheeky. Nice find with the (mostly) isolated vocals.
You spoke about Ed control of voice and singing. He has been a life long surfer even climbing truss for over a decade. Climbing while on stage sometimes a microphone 🎤 is left hanging from truss, sometimes stage diving and crowd surfing. It’s online
classic pearl jam performance. intense. and i still miss reactions on susanne sundfør and anna von hausswolff. i cannot understand that these gems are not featured yet. all people - YOU INCLUDED! - just go crazy for aurora and angelina, and if you havn't listened to anna von hausswolff and susanne sundfør, you havn't listened to scandinavian music yet
I just watched your slayer reaction and opened up your videos to piggyback off your latest video only to suggest HELSTAR -DARK INCARNATION. 61 years old belting out this song. Truly amazing voice. Eddie is a great great vocalist!! This is a great way to hear every aspect of vocals without the other instruments.
i would love to see you react to "rainbow in the dark" by corey taylor! He is the lead singer of slipknot and stone sour (two really great bands) and in this song you can really hear the soft side of his voice and how good it is in general!
Speaking of Grunge any plans to react to Brandi Carlile? She grew up in Seattle during peak grunge so a lot of her early stuff has a very unique infusion of Grunge vocal techniques in more folk contemporary music.
Great analysis as always! When it comes to breath control you might want to check out 'Harry Mack-Break ya neck freestyle'. He has a degree in jazz drumming and after practicing off the top freestyling for 20 years he's able to fill his internal drumming patterns with words. Not a singer but unbelievable breath control. Love your channel by the way. :)
Dear Ken, why haven't you been doing any Voice Play lately ? They have 4 new ones out. The Dragonborn Comes, Halo theme song from the Halo video game We Don't Talk About Bruno & Dream On
Always enjoy your reactions and how you break everything down. Jonathan Young has a new video up that I think you should check out, him and Caleb Hyles did a sponsored song and it is amazing. It’s called Old Money.
You should do Home Free and the song Man of Constant Sorrow or Folsom Prison Blues. They use no instruments and only use there voice. I am curious what you think of there bass Tim Faust.
Another great reaction to a great voice! 👍 I like your reaction videos, that's why I subscribed... Through your videos I have already met fantastic singers and songs - thanks for that! 🎶 Please react to Jared Halley (for example: Phantom of the Opera medley or Imagine Dragon Medley) or James Gillespie (for example: Run or Mad World). Best regards from Switzerland 🤗
Could you react to Two songs from VoicePlay, Hoist The Colors, and The Dragonborn Comes. You will get a kick out of them and I would love to hear your views on the songs. 😁🍻
I really enjoyed this vocal-only deep-dive. I think of some iconic lead vocalists like David Lee Roth of Van Halen, Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, or Robert Smith of The Cure; they weren't always concerned with great technique but provided a personality or identity for their respective bands. Their performances, while not faultless, were musically right for the song. As an extreme example of singing for the effect you want, one that you may not have heard, I'll direct you to Jo Stafford and Paul Weston's comedy side project, Jonathan & Darlene Edwards. Here's a link to their version of The Last Time I Saw Paris: ruclips.net/video/0m15vMrjsO8/видео.html
#KenLavigne if you wont to blow up your mind with Hindustani classical music you have to listen Bhimsen joshi raag miyan ki malhar : Nardeep Singh Pareek
Ken, I'm begging you, PLEASE REACT TO COKE STUDIO SEASON 14. It is the most magical, professional, beautiful produced season of coke studio there ever was. You should listen to the whole season (its about 23 songs, I think) but definitely start with Tu Jhoom. It stars Abida Perveen and Naseebo Lal, to of the biggest Icons in Pakistani music history!
Hey Ken, please react to Immortal disfigurement - dragged through the inferno, its the first single of the new band with the old singer of Lorna Shore, he does some crazy stuff here, i think you'll like it :D
Well, music as an art in general has not the purpose of producing "nice sounds". There is a difference between art and aesthetics. Art always is the artists representation/transcendence of reality and thus obviously can only be occasionally aesthetic.
The only thing thats annoying me about this, is that the sound is from the album not this actual concert lol. I would have much rather heard the vocals live. Its always a million times better live lol.
My stomach dropped and my heart rate increased when I heard the first moment of this. It’s hard to believe that just hearing his voice, still has all the impact of a roller coaster.
Such a legendary voice.

Came for the isolated vocals, stayed for the isolated guitar solo! Mike at his very best

This is my favorite concert times of this....I have never heard just the vocals by themselves, this sounds magically Beautyful
Best live band ever. Fight me :P
I agree. PJ was a high school band for me, and I've seen them 7 times. Mike McCready is a Jimi Hendrix on guitar too, he doesn't get enough press.
So cool to just hear the vocals! Thank you
That was amazing Ken, that's one of my favorite Pearl Jam concerts!! Eddie Vedder is incredible, love love your reaction!! Thank you for sharing this awesome video and your thoughts and reactions. 😊🤘✌️

Very good stuff. Congratulations.
Young Eddie was a beast 😂❤
imagine him being in a coma and they wonder if they should turn the machines off and he suddenly wakes up singing "IM STILL ALIVE, HOOEEEEOEEOOOO"
You should definitely do Would? By Alice in Chains with isolated vocals
Freddie Mercury e Montserrat Caballe "How Can I Go On" "Barcelona".... Simply Amazing...
Great reaction as usual! Gonna ask again cuz I don’t give up but while you’re back in the grunge scene can u pretty please check out Chris Cornell’s When I’m Down live at the Troubadour. Just him and a piano. Bluesy and amazing 💕
