    I'm buying a 2017 Lancer ES with manual. I'm a simple guy, I like a simple car. Something about Lancers just sticks out to me above the 90 million Civics and Corollas you see on the streets.

      It's just business. Mitsubishi is too globally large with the backing of other corporate sectors to die. With the Nissan merger at least the brand name will be kept alive with vehicles that don't fit in Nissan's own lineup.

    I don't care,I am getting this car. I've always liked the design of the lancer and if they've kept it the same all these years it just shows how reliable it is. Every "new" car all look the same now, civics, elantras, blah blah but it's just something about lancers that get to me...

      Agree with Helveticatree. You'll love it. I bought a 2016 Lancer SE. That 2.4L gives it high power-to-weight ratio. It can easily beat most cars during acceleration from a traffic light stop. Today I tested its AWC system in the nearby snowy mountains. Well worth it.

  • @palebeachbum
    @palebeachbum 8 лет назад +58

    Yeah we all know it's an old design. It's obvious. The fuel economy sucks because it's old technology. But because of this, the bugs have been worked out and it's one damn solid little car. Reliable as hell. You won't pay anywhere near sticker. Mitsubishi discounts them heavily. If you want to pay $5k more on a cutting edge Civic with a measly 36k mile warranty and unproven technology, go for it. I'd rather have this little tank with AWC, great warranty, at a steep discount.

      palebeachbum they could use direct injection and have it put in lancer to increase mpg and horsepower

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 7 лет назад +2

      Jaime Prado Yes direct injection would improve power. Fuel economy, that's debatable. Kia uses direct injection on most, if not all of their US cars and they have some of the worst MPG, but put out the most power.

      Im getting 29 mpg city 39 highway. Damn good imo... cost $25 to fill up @ $2.00 per gallon plus the 100,000 mile 10 yr... 😄😄😄😄 shitin on honda

    • @chrishuber8930
      @chrishuber8930 7 лет назад +1

      Jesse Bates not shitting on Honda. The turbo civic gets 32 city and 42 highway. That's the top tier engine. You have the 2.0 148 hp base engine. Hyundai gets better mileage from their base engine. 2.0 Atkinson cycle with 148 hp as well. Then they have the 2.0 GDI motor with 164-173 hp depending. My friend has the Elantra GT with 173 and he gets mixed 32 mpg. Then there's the 1.4 turbo that's 140 hp 157 tq with 33 city 44 Hwy. Also the 1.6 turbo with 201 hp can almost match your mileage figures. The civics base engine is far more advanced, and nearly has the same mpg figures with more hp and tq. I won't even get into other companies. The reason why Mitsubishi has to offer a long warranty is for people to buy the cars at all. They are a small shadow of what they once were. They are going to fold and pull out of the us in the next 10 years. I'd trade your car in for something that costs less, is more advanced, and won't give you a headache when you need to go to a dealer and they are gone. Happened to Suzuki. Mitsubishi is next

  • @xanderdom

    It's sad seeing Mitsubishi lack finance in their automobile industry now. They didn't wanna risk putting out a completely different Lancer because it's probably one of the most reliable vehicles you can buy outright with no trouble. It was heartbreaking seeing the Evo end its run, will be even sadder seeing them closing the curtains on the whole Lancer line. :(

    Thanks for that opening line.. I really miss my 3000GT VR4. Now many automakers have had down times but they make it through by reinventing themselves and eventually are able to bring back some of those popular cars. It's too bad Mitsubishi is too busy focusing on their heavy industry side and well enough to let their cars just die.

    I traded my 2006 ES 2.4Ltr Lancer in on a 2017 Lancer 2.0 Ltr Blackedition last September. If you want a reliable car with good fuel econ and not to worried about draggin' every other car off at the lights, the Lancer wont let you down. It's a fun car to drive and sticks to to road really well. ai replaced the radio with an Alpine because the original didn't have GPS, Karen the dashboard driver keeps on telling me I'm speeding so the car can't be that slow. All cars have problems no matter what make they are, for the price the Lancer suits me quite well I have no regrets buying her. Oh and my 2006 model I had for 9 years, ran like a Swiss watch.

    My first car was a 04 Lancer ES. It was a cheap and reliable car! With more standard features than its competition at the time (I remember being wowed by standard AC and power windows lol)
    I jumped to a Mazda 3 last year because Mitsu hasn't updated the lancer in a decade and I just had to look elsewhere... Sad to watch this slow death of the brand of cars... but loving my Mazda!

    Say what you want regarding how old the platform is. The car still looks cool. You can tell what car this from the rear. Unlike the new Ford rear ends that stole from kia, or how the new cruz front end took from corolla.

  • @Qcnordique
    @Qcnordique 7 лет назад +1

    On winter canadians road where the road is covered with snow and ice, the civic and the corolla just slide around. i see all those civic starting at a green light and by the time the light switch to yellow the car barely made it to the other end of the intersection. But the lancer awc for the same price will offer you a better control on the icy road. and the subaru not only is 4k more than the lancer where i am from. it as a smaller engine and the warranty is only 5 years or 100000km compare to 10 years or 160000km of mitsubichi.

    As a current owner of a RVR i gotta say that its a great car, but Mitsu does fall short on their interiors. They feel cheap and chose the wrong materials, even for the seats.The paddle shifters and AWC are the best, the motor is great on gas, and the exterior styling is nice.

    • @gmualum08
      @gmualum08 7 лет назад

      The question is if they were so reliable why don't they have a solid reputation for reliability and why aren't they selling their cars anymore? In this segment people want a car that is reliable and a safe inventment with some bells and whistles to at least feel like they're getting a modern car in the 2017 model year. I loved Mitsubishi back in its hayday and while I never owned one, if they still made a car like the 1998 Eclipse GSX with the twin turbo engine I'd buy it in a second!

    Another great review. Really bittersweet. Like you, I remember old Eclipses and Evos, and would love to see this car--with its competitive pricing and great warranty--succeed. It just doesn't seem good enough, and--like you--I wonder if they just can't invest enough to make it truly competitive.

    • @Andrew8126
      @Andrew8126 7 лет назад

      Re Mu
      Do you not like your Lancer?
      I agree about Evo being niche, but not when it comes to Eclipse/Talon. I'll bet they hoped to sell a million of those.
      I guess it also depends what you think of a company's decision to bother making a niche car. If you think it signifies hope and enthusiasm for the brand, then its departure (especially from a struggling company) can be seen as worrisome. if you think making a niche car just distracts the company from its core business, then that's a huge problem, and discontinuing it is the right move.

      Theo Morrow lot of other brands have parts build by mitsubishi, that's why mitsubishi is one of the most profitable car brands, just like they do when providing like 70% of parts to build a boeing airplane, everytime other brands sell a car that has like 10% of parts by mitsubishi, is like they selling one car every 10 cars of the other brands, gm, mazda, even vw have parts by mitsubishi, that's why mitsubishi is never going to leave the market, also in particular this car has something no one else has had in 10 years, for example the turning circle, or the steering wheel ratio that gives the funny driving over any other sedan that could come to your mind.

    • @chrishuber8930
      @chrishuber8930 7 лет назад

      gabojm dude the turning circle is not even that great. It's a compact sedan. It's not even midsize. If it is trying to be that then it's even more garbage. It has no upgrade engine choice besides the Chrysler built 2.4 world engine. That engine should be standard first of all. It should have at least the 3.0 V6 or the 2.4 turbo that was found in the ralliart. They have too thin of a lineup with no real solid offerings of their own

    I want to like this Lancer. The really old Lancer is overall a great car. It's got tons of stuff for a decent price. Resale sinks faster than the titanic but it's a good car. Like steve said, it's stuck in a time warp. Mitsu is lost. I remember seeing a docu about Mitsu about way back in the 80's how mitsu was going to overtake the US market. That never happened but made some decent stuff.

    I think it would be better if they made it cheaper and swapped out the CVT for something else. Too bad their deal fell through and couldn't get a Samsung Renault Nissan based car alternative. That would of made the cars a lot cheaper if they were made in Korea.

    They don't have enough cash to compete with Mazda or Subaru who themselves don't have enough cast to compete with the big 4 Asian automakers (Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Nissan). Mitsu was big overseas in the 80's and 90's when I was abroad. I saw alot of them on the road. Too bad I always liked them for some reason.

      Herc Zeus mitsubishi builds car technology, the chasis from mazda 3 is a licensed version of lancer, the same for cx5 from the outlander sport/asx/rvr, lot of brands depend on mitsubishi to exists, so that's why mitsubishi is the most profitable car builder, they design and build everything, and even in the manufacturing process, they build parts for other car brands.

    $24k for a compact car that came out in the Bush era is ridiculous. You can get a Civic for less and it'll have better looks, quality, reliability, and driving dynamics and up to date tech and driver assistance aides.

    • @kevman949

      plus it only gets 23 city and 30 highway! that's 8 mpg less in the city and 12 less on the highway than 2016 civic? the people who even get a great discount will end up paying alot more on gas!!!!

    • @2Kriss2Kross
      @2Kriss2Kross 8 лет назад

      Kev erino True but the fact that Mitsubishi has the gall to think their relic is worth $24k while many up to date competition with more features undercut it is fascinating. Mitsubishi is truly lost I won't miss them when they're gone.

    Couldn't have said it better Steve; they either don't understand the US market or don't have the cash to inject life into their auto business and decided to funnel their capital elsewhere. It's truly a shame because cars like the 1998 Eclipse GSX was a nasty twin turbo sports car, same with 3000 GT VR4 and of course the Evolution. If they just gradually kept those cars up to date I swear they would be kicking Subaru in the teeth. Such a shame 😔

      WretchedDrake in my opinion, Mitsubishi isn't in the game to necessarily take honda or any other manufacturer out. Buying my 2017 Lancer ACW was one of the smartest, yet dumbest things I've ever done. Yeah, it's a super reliable car. It has great warranty. And the price is amazing too. Mine had a sticker price of $22k. After the incentive from Mitsubishi and my down payment, I really only financed a little less than $14k. And I'm 21 with subpar credit. They put their money where their mouth is with the warranty. Truly a fantastic car that I'm in love with.
