As the 2024 election moves into its final stretch with Kamala Harris gaining a slim lead, Trump is losing it. His statements are even less coherent than before; his accusations, wilder; his lies, even more dangerous. He is starting to resemble a cornered animal.
Today, Heather and I assess where Trump is and what he might do. We examine what Trump loyalists are doing in the key states of Georgia and Pennsylvania, with an eye on delaying and casting doubt on the results of the upcoming election. We look at the chances of more chicanery after November 5 in Congress, particularly if Republicans remain in control of the House. And we look at incitements to violence.
Overall, though, we’re cautiously (Bob says “nauseously”) optimistic, and we hope you are, too.

President Carter wants to live long enough to see Kamala elected. I want to live long enough to see Trump in prison. I'm not as nice as President Carter.
I am seeing that as a growing sentiment and movement. My girlfriend and I, who are cohabitating peace-nick seniors, have been flying our flag on the front of our house for a couple of years. And we made the decision with the "this is our flag too" attitude.
I want to add that I have never been more proud of my country than I've been with Biden's unlikely successes and so much more so in the wake of the enthusiasm around VP Harris' run for the presidency. Once the election dust settles, I believe Kamala will be our 47th president and we will have turned a major corner. We will have come out of our national nightmare. There will be tons of work that needs to be done, but MAGA will be much weaker. And that will be a relief.
In my opinion, I don’t think Trump cares how he gets to the White House. He needs adoration. He once said how everyone clapped and thanked the supreme leader of N Korea when the man walked in the room. I want that, he said. His ego needs to be feed constantly. How he gets there is irrelevant. He’s just a very very dangerous human.
That's all true, but his main motivation is his dread of ending up in Rikers, followed up with terms in other prisons.

I live in Texas. The Republicans absolutely rule here and they have been working very hard to prevent people from voting here. My wife is looking forward to the day when she won't ever have to hear about Trump ever again. As for Harris, she was my favorite in 2020. I especially liked how she was talking about prosecuting the case against Trump. PS - I am a former libertarian, or to be more specific, adherent of the philosophy of Ayn Rand, and my views haven't changed that much, at least in terms of the fundamentals.

We already have jobs, we have people working multiple jobs. 1 job from 2 people should result in a family that is middle class, which means raising the minimum wage up from poverty wages into wages that allow people to be middle class. We can not continue allowing adults to be placed in poverty because it’s better for Walmart to receive government funding for their employees. We will stop subsidizing companies, if you can’t sell someone else’s labor for them, you shouldn’t have their labor period. Laissez-faire government and Laissez-faire economics are counterintuitive ideas. Laffer Curve, peace through strength, and building a strong state on strong individuals given individual liberty and expecting individual responsibility, are counterintuitive ideas. Conservative ideas are counterintuitive.
Liberalism is not an ideology. Liberalism is an inability to use reason and logic to understand how the counterintuitive nature of the universe works, so a person falls back on their emotions to reach a conclusion.
That is why there are no successful liberal political talk radio shows. Liberals need moving pictures or hand puppets to trigger their emotions.
There was a huge global study where they asked thousands of people hundreds of questions and grouped them by their answers. People that ranked high in conscientiousness also favored conservative policies. People that ranked low in conscientiousness also favored liberal policies.
Meaning liberals have no intention of doing what is right or making sacrifices for the good of society.
Liberals are twice as likely as conservatives to report having mental problems in some groups and report higher mental problems across the board. This mental instability and inability to still their mind long enough to understand how conservative policies help poor and working class people is the cause of their problem.
If you look up the traits of narcissists, you will see they are exactly the same as liberal politicians and activists, because they are both driven in total by their hatred and emotions.
How the rank-and-file of the Teamsters can be so MAGA is beyond me. Same with how the police union can endorse a 34-times convicted felon.
Then again, a lot of individual Teamster unions (particularly in the west coast) endorsed Harris. So at least there’s that.

@ChrisWood It does depend on the region he is in. I saw something about internal surveys that show 60% support of Trump but it is highly likely only 10% of the membership participated in the survey. Most people who are Teamsters don't actually engage with the union.

I wasted a lot of time online after the last election trying to explain to furious Trump supporters that all of those extra votes for Biden weren't fake. They didn't want to know that there are over 220 million people who can legally vote in the US and usually only 60% of them vote. They couldn't comprehend that it was perfectly legit for 10 million of the non-voters to decide that issues were important enough to go vote. They do not do numbers. They only do "feelings."

I’m in Pennsylvania. It’s a nightmare. Counties struggle with having the number of staff required to count since we have mail in ballots. Thankfully some counties still close on general election day which frees up employees to be deployed to election services.
Regarding down ballot voting, this is vital in states like Pennsylvania. Everything here is local. Counties still have row offices run by elected officials. There has been a concerted effort to fill those offices with MAGA loyalists. These people can effect buying a house, probating a will, getting married and other local government functions. County commissioners are the local election board. County controllers manage money. It matters.
I'm in PA too. I volunteered to be a poll worker because I'm not afraid of the bully in chief dictator wanna be's threats. But, he has sown hatred and distrust of our neighbors with the giant tRump flags and even vile Fu*k your feelings banners on Main Street small town PA. Putin is very pleased with his operative.

My husband and I were just in Maine for our annual trip, and we were so *psyched* to see so many *more* Harris/Walz 2024 yard and window signs than Trump signs (more along the coast but there were far, far, *far* less Trump signs overall everywhere than in years past). Gave us such *hope* for the country.

The thing about Texas though is 91-95 saw a female Democrat as governor. So Texas being blurple or even blue isn’t too incredibly far fetched! Some of us remember Ann Richards and her no nonsense attitude!!

How can Nevada and Georgia change how electoral votes are awarded and how votes are counted so close to a critical election???
Maine has a 90 day hold unless they can enact emergency action. But I don't think they have the votes for that. Nebraska (where I live) has no such law. Right now there is 1 major republican hold out keeping it from moving to winner take all. The guy (Mike McDonnell) is running for mayor of omaha which is basically NE district 2 (the swing district). Without him the governor can secure and call a special session in the nest 2 weeks to change the law.
