    I just wanted to say that I love how you dissect these inks with different pens and on different papers. I fills my geeky heart with so much joy!

      Thank you, Seemownay! I get a kick out of testing these pens, inks, and papers...I'm glad you enjoy it. 😀

    This is an ink that you have to shake before using. I noticed in my sample some deposit after a long time untouched. I need to use it again (I haven’t used blacks in a while)

      That's good to know. Now I need to inspect my sample. If there is pigment that settles out, that would explain the lack of saturation in some of my tests.

    Lovely review. I use Noodler's Black mainly for illustration. I generally ink over my pencil outline and then erase the under drawing with a pencil eraser. I find in the process a bit of Noodler's black also gets erased.
    How is HOD in this regard? Does it lose its saturation when you erase over it?

    Heart of Darkness has become my favorite black. I have mine in a Twsbi mini F nib. Somehow mine looks more opaque than your swatches do!

    • @thuntz29
      @thuntz29 2 года назад +2

      Mine also looks blacker I think in this case Cathy’s sample was taken without shaking the bottle. It really settles, so make sure su shake your bottle well before inking a pen.
      I’m kinda of scared of using it because of it now, I don’t think I’ll use it in expensive pens.

      It looks pale to me too. It was one of my favorite black inks for drawing, very opaque.

      You're welcome! I've heard lots of good things about the DeAtramentis Document inks. I want to try DeAtramentis Document Green Grey.

    I find de atramentis document ink black to be very black and opaque. It is also water resistant which is great for sketching.

      I like the look of DeAtramentis Document Green Grey. I haven't tried it yet, but it's on the list of inks I'd like to test.

    Nice review of Noodler’s HOD. I use Noodler’s Warden series inks mostly because I want that permanence that the Warden series offers. It does show up lighter in your testing than what I seem to get when I write on a check. Still, “personnel check” paper doesn’t seem very high quality, as it bleeds through a lot. Thanks for solid review as yours always seem to be. 👍🤗😎. {still, I keep fighting off my negative feelings toward any jinhao fp} I never could keep them from drying out so quickly with the cap off when writing. I am a dunker of my fountain pen to ink them up, submerging them well below the nib area. This alway got ink around and under that band where my fingers would grasp. No matter how hard I cleaned it off afterwords, ink would still be under that band, and then leak out onto my fingers later. I don’t know how anyone can stand using them… . A lot of folks do use them and don’t seem to have the same problems, so more power to you.😎

      I know what you mean. I don't like dipping any section in ink that has a metal band or any crevices for ink to get stuck in because it's impossible to wipe it all off.

    Looks charcoal to me. X-Feather is a much more dense black.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  Год назад

      I agree, and in my experience X-Feather is less prone to drying out in a nib. For those two reasons I prefer X-Feather.

    Thank you for this comparison. I am not fond of black inks either however, this should be considered a grey ink. Love your videos.

      Thank you, Marianne! I don't know why I keep trying all these Noodler's black inks. I don't have any intention of buying a bottle of black ink. 😄

    As with many Noodler's "bullerpoof" inks, there seems to be two phases in the ink, darker part tend to decant at the bottom. I've noticed it when refiling pens out of Noodler's inks (54th, Black, Red-Black) I didn't shake.
    Even-though they are supposed to be pigment free, there's definitely darker "particles" in the mixture, you can have significant "color concentration" whether you shake the bottle before use.
    Judging by this grey shade, I surmise the sample you got was taken from a decanted bottle.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  2 года назад +2

      That's good to know. Since I've only tried samples of the Noodler's inks, I don't have any experience with the behavior of the ink in bottles. Thanks for the info!

      @@gadgetstop321 You're welcome : ) Small update, I've received my Heart of Darkness bottle Today and I can assure you it's a very dark and opaque black.

    For those of us who write important letters with a fountain pen, whether business, political, or personal, having a black and a blue ink that goes down saturated, and without any shading, is essential. Out of a wet pen, I find Heart of Darkness does this reasonably well. But I think carbon ink does it better.
    Other than not being black enough, pne problem I have with Heart of Darkness is that it dries out rapidly in several of my pens, even though I won't include a pen in my permanent collection unless it stays wet for thirty days without being used. I haven't heard anyone else complain about this, so I don't know why I have such a problem?
    I do like the way it writes, but having to coax it each time I want to use it is a serious problem.

      Does platinum carbon black keeps better in a pen? I haven’t tried it in a long run… I have sepia brun and it’s pretty well behaved. I also like sailor souboku, behaves very well but I always nervous because they are both pigment inks.

    I own and like Cross Black and Blackstone Black Stump as well as Blackstone Barrister Black, a permeant ink. Take Blackstone inks are not made any more and are difficult to find.

      Cross inks are underrated. They have a good black and I also like Cross Violet.

  • @michaelcorleone89

    This is not a pigmented ink which is very interesting for a permanent ink. I just wish it wasn’t that wet, i don’t like when my nibs write one size broader, which happens often with this ink.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  2 года назад

      I know what you mean. I was surprised by how wet my Prera fine nib was writing, but I was equally surprised by how dry the Sailor Lecoule was writing. I don't know how to explain that. 🤷

    • @michaelcorleone89
      @michaelcorleone89 2 года назад

      @@gadgetstop321 yes, it very much depends on the pen. My japanese EFs write like a wet westen EF with this ink. How fine is the EF on the Pilot 78G+ compared to Kakuno EF and PIlot PO nib?
