Do you have any idea if these newer ones still have the flat wire coil? the old ones didn't sound very clear but they would take over 1000 watts with that coil
Yeah, sure you can. For that you need a good mono amplifier. I am using a 400watt mosfet mono amp,custom made. Its connected to my yamaha receiver. Working great. Shaking the room & also gives the vibration effect while watching movie
Almost all receiver have minimum 6ohms of impedence. But those works for channel amplifiers. But subwoofer doesnt have any amplifier in it. It has just low pass filter, and that provieds the pre-out, using rca connection. But mono amp you gonna use that should have minimum 4 ohms. Thats it. It works like that. Your subwoofer's impedence should match the impedance of the amplifier conmected to it. Nothing to do with the receiver. Receiver just give subwoofer pre-amp output.Thats it. Most of the branded active subwoofers use 4 ohms of amplifoer & speaker driver. Hope i was able to make it clear. Still if you have any question you can ask me.
If you go for custom made box & amp, Sony is good but jbl is a bit better. If u go for powered subwoofer for home theater then Klipsch,Polk audio etc are great. But the best & the beast is SVS

They both will work good with your amp. But sony will do better. You can connect one sub to your amp. If you wanna connect 2 sub then you need to go for lower wattage sub like Rockford fosgate,200w sub.. but if you install a sony sub in a good enclosure then your amp can make it shake the house.
