It’s funny how much he’s grown and calmed down since his past. And despite us only seeing his rage for his entire existence until now, his calm demeanor feels so natural.

Remember that all the way from GoW 1 to 3 (including chains of Olympus and ghost of Sparta) Kratos was under constant suffering from the nightmares of him killing his family. And he also lost his brother and mother.

I mean, he literally came up with the idea to pierce the Dragon Boss in this game with the exploding rock in the neck so as to kill it when Atreus shot it with a lightning arrow (sorry, forgot what they are both called)
Yah if you went back and played the older ones you can see the gears turning in his head before the fight as he already knows how to kill who he's fighting as the fight starts. In the cases where he doesn't do that, he is exceptionally good at emprovising and problem solving in his own brutal ways.

The character development between these two characters is just brilliant, Kratos went from just simple calling him "head" and not having much respect to actually calling Mimir "brother" in Ragnarok. It just never fails to put a smile on my face even if it's only in a handful of moments.
Kratos laughs 3 times throughout the game; during his first drink with boy, this moment here, and the end when boy asks Kratos why he named him Atreus... Oh and he chuckles once in Ascension when he first met Orkos after he mentions a way to break his oath with Aries.
