The recently released Southern Pacific GS-4 4-8-4 No. 4449 from Broadway Limited Imports is a hefty model, made almost entirely of metal, with tons of sound and light features, especially when you activate advanced mode. Check out how it looks in this week's Product Spotlight, with a big thanks to Benjamin Harp!

Very impressive and handsome model of the SP GS4 class locomotive and this is definitely the best gs4 model currently available in ho scale. I really hope that BLI has produced this model available in the postwar (1950s) black/ silver paint scheme as I really like that scheme, MTH trains also made an ho scale GS4 model a while ago and both BLI and MTH seem to have produced the best SP gs4 class models in ho scale by measurement of detail accuracy.

The three objects on the fireman's side in the skyline casing are the dynamos.
It is also nice that they modeled the steam pipe at the back of the tender (also on the fireman's side).
Personally I would have liked to have seen the cylinder covers with a silver appearance. Also the running gear would look better in silver.
As for the lights. That is the Dynamo spooling up before the lights come on.
Great video too. Aside from a few minor issues it is a very nice model.
We have a couple of BLI locomotives and they are solid units.

Thank you for the review! I always enjoy your videos.
I noticed the Daylight logo on the fireman’s side skirt is too low. The engineer’s side is correct. BLI made this mistake on all Daylight versions in this release.

Several folks have noted this same issue. Good catch.

Looking at the photos in Robert Church’s “Southern Pacific Daylight Locomotives” the Daylight logo on the fireman’s side is lower than the on on the engineer’s side for at least their active careers. My guess is this is due to the various hatches.

The delay is due to the keep-alive.

Thank you John. Great review. Several other reviews have noted problems with shorts and derailments when running on the layout. Could you ask Ben if he has experienced any of these issues. I love the locomotive, but the comments concern me for the level of cost on the unit. Thanks

At the time of the spotlight Ben had not run the model on the big layout at SBHRS yet. I'm sure he will comment here if he see this.
