- This is an actual play of Lamentations of the Flame Princess, running through the Frog God Games adventure "On a Lonely Road". The system and setting for "On a Lonely Road" comes from Swords & Wizardry (S&W). This game, developed by Matt Finch, emulates the original 1974 edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Includes nearly all of the rules and options added to the original game from supplements and articles.

Things You Should Know About Lamentations of the Flame Princess
What is LotFP Weird Fantasy Role-Playing?
LotFP is the brutal and wondrous Weird Fantasy tabletop role-playing game born out of love for underground heavy metal, horror literature and film, and in fact all things strange and macabre. Whatever the inspiration of the moment, be it Lovecraft and Barker, Troma and Hammer, Argento and Fulci, the NWOBHM and True Doom, or Ito and Morrison, LotFP's cadre of writers and artists deliver mind-bending and merciless content for your game table.
Rules-wise, LotFP belongs to the "Old School Renaissance" family of games that uses the Open Game License to recreate game rules of the late 70s/early 80s, with LotFP's particular twisting of those rules flattening out the power level a bit and emphasizing a more horrific and go-for-the-throat attitude. A PDF version of the full rules without any of the game's artwork is available here for you to use for your own purposes. (The full-version PDF includes all of the art, while the physical version is a beautiful high-quality artifact in its own right.)
Being part of the Old School Renaissance also means that every LotFP adventure and supplement is readily compatible with over 100 other RPGs, and their support material is readily compatible with LotFP.
What is so "weird" about LotFP?
The rules themselves are mostly familiar and normal. You don't read the rulebook and think, "Oh, that's strange!" Well, maybe in a few places. Anything in the actual rulebook becomes in effect normal and not weird while playing the game. The idea is that the characters are normal (for values of "normal" that may or may not be present in a fantasy RPG setting), and it's what they encounter during play that is unusual and strange and where the weird is found.
So in practical terms, the weirdness lies in the adventures and support material, and consists of challenges to both the characters' and players' perception of what is supposed to be happening in the game.
You'll just have to deal with the fact that the rulebook is "only" a solid interpretation of classic RPG rules, with application left up to your own imagination.

Not just the DM but the players as well make this live play absolutely incredible!
Jeez you guys put my DM skills (or lack thereof) to shame. Awesome job. This is awesome.
This was so good!
I loved this...but I really want part 2
We had to abandon it due to scheduling issues. But the Lamenters is a longer-running campaign. Watch that.
I am so behind... i need to catch up on what happened after you guy's/girl's first summer break lol
So a session 1 until then is perfect
hmm
this is dope
Hi Bill, recently discovered your channel and I really like the LotFP campaing that you're currently running, but I also am curious how the story in this one was going to evolve. You left me with a real cliff hanger. Did the show get suspended or are you planing to continue at some point?
Well, if we're able to organize a session with RollStats (aka DM Bill), then I'd love to finish the Lonely Road game. Otherwise, I'll probably return to it once we finish the Red Crescent adventures.
@@BillAllanWorld I guess we'll cross our fingers. As long as you (and the crew) keep producing lamentations videos I'm happy either way. Also, the music didn't bother me at all, I thought it was thematic and a good choice.
Which game system are you using?
Also the background music Is too loud especially during combat
Other than that, really enjoyed this session ☕
The system is more or less Lamentations of the Flame Princess, but we're all new to the system and mechanics, so we messed up a few things. The setting and adventure are from another old school renaissance game, Swords & Wizardry.
More info and links are in the video description.
Hi, where can I find the adventure? Is it in the S&W basic? Thanks
I have no idea. Bill Hengst (RollStats) ran the adventure. Not sure where he sourced it from.
hea bill love it man. Hey what is the song at the beginning? its pretty cool!
It's a song I wrote called "Mushroom Druid". Kind of a homage to old school rock and metal, in the style of Black Sabbath.
KAIL !! the fighter ... /FLEX
yup
Is this supposed to be LotFP? LotFP doesn’t use strength bonus on damage or Dex bonus on ranged damage .. and I’m pretty sure there’s no roll under mechanic. Just wondering? Maybe you are home brewing a lot?
We're all new, so a lot of corrections have been shared in the comments. We'll try to get things right next session.
Search, bushcraft and any other skill check is one d6... where are you guys getting two d6? The number of pips, dots or points you have determines how skilled you are ...2 dots in search means you must roll a 1 or 2 on a single d6 roll for success, 3 or higher fails
Good to know. The entire group is new to the game, so this is very much a learning experience. We'll make sure everybody knows this for session 2.
Lolly llokol
yes!!
Are you a professional voice actor? Your voice is incredible.
I am. thank you so much!
huzzah
Hay bill its been a while can you do a build with bill on sorlocks (sorcerer warlocks).
I'm confused, is this Dungeons and Dragons or not?
It's like D&D, but the game system is called Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It's based on the original D&D from the 1970s, so there are different rules and mechanics for how the game works.
@@BillAllanWorld Ah I see
Interesting game. The music is horrible.Too loud.
sorry
HEY! WTF is Part 2! Tell me NOW or I will send you a case of putrid boils!
Part 2 never happened because the GM (RollStats) wasn't available. That's why we moved into the series (The Lamenters) with the same cast & characters.
