Old Detroit diesels were two strokes, so they fired twice as often as a four stroke with the same number of cylinders. They were the most efficient method for turning diesel fuel into noise.
You better start *buying jerry cans,* 'cause those engines *chew through fuel* like crazy compared to a *FOUR-stroke straight-6.*
When the Jeff started the rig, I can only think of the song "the legend" by Jerry Reed
Good looking truck saddly it wasnt a Cummings like the one in the movie
There’s a truck drivin’ legend from the South today, a man called Bandit from Atlanta GA!
@@DonaldJared ahhhh son!
My friends fav singer is Jerry Reed and he loves trucks
Bandit, you’re restless...and you live much too hard
The Snowman aka Jerry Reed
One of the funniest actors I've ever seen! cheers 🍻 to The Snowman may he RIP.
Great video Jeff i really enjoyed!
One of the best country singers as well!
Go sub to my channel plz

Screaming Jimmy Detroit diesel. 2 stroke diesel so they have a really unique sound. Great video, love this channel. Great work!
That is what I am thinking a screaming jimmy.
I'm going to guess that it's the *Detroit Diesel 16V-71,* aka the *"Screaming Jimmy"* you're talking about, right?
The truck that Jeff was driving from the Burt Reynolds movie *"Smokey and the Bandit" (1977)* had the *V12* variant of the Detroit Diesel *71 Series,* specifically the *12V-71.*
@@josecarrilloii4036 12v71 or an 8v92. Pretty sure they never put any 16vs in otr trucks.
@@fooseballs308 I was talking about the *"Screaming Jimmy,"* aka the *Detroit Diesel 16V-71,* not the *"Smokey and the Bandit"* truck Jeff was driving, which had the slightly smaller *12V-71 engine.*
Besides, even an *8V-92* would struggle just to get up and over a simple hill.
@@josecarrilloii4036 10/4. The 8v92 is no slouch though. Up to 550 hp, and used in the HET grossing almost 240000 lb. Plenty of engine for whatever needs to be done.
Those old Detroits were screamers! Especially the 2-strokes. My personal favorite was the 12v71 also nicknamed the "Buzzin'' Dozen"
That's kinda what it's sounds like.
"For the good old American life: For the money, for the glory, and for the fun… mostly for the money.”
Yes i loved that line.
@@tsunsu amazing line in that movie :)
"And you know what were gonna do when we get the money?"
"Were gonna buy a new rig"
“Snowman, you got your ears on son?”
*"SAY 'HELLO' TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!"*
- *Tony Montana (Al Pacino),* "Scarface" (1983).
I love the sound of Smokey's truck on American truck simulator, Jeff Favignano. I enjoyed watching you playing American truck simulator and watching you drive Smokey's truck from Smokey and the Bandit movie too. Be safe traveling where you are going, and coming back home too.
My Dad and I were driving down a back road one day and came across a 1960 GMC city bus RV conversation. They had swapped the gas pusher engine out for a 6V53 Detroit Diesel and an Allison manual transmission and 2 speed rear end. It has 2 stainless steel pipes that came strait up in the back. We got it for a steal and went camping in it quite a bit. It screeeamed!! I loved hearing the Detroit Diesel in this video! Oldie but a goodie
They should add the Goblin truck, or any others from “Maximum Overdrive”
👍 oh yeah
You read my mind.
I'd stick to the blue *1989 Peterbilt 379 sleeper cab truck* with the red flames from the Micheal Bay movie *"Transformers" (2007;* animated version from 1986 doesn't count), which, to anyone who's even seen it, is in fact *Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen)* in vehicular form.
yes i agree
Hey Jeff, I would really appreciate it if you could do a "work truck" episode in ATS. Like use a daycab with a walmart, Amazon etc. Skin with a matching trailer, kind of like you did in december 2018.
Great idea I would love for jeff to Do that
EastBound and Down! Rolling up and trucking!
I am not first,
I am not last,
But when I see Jeff's notification,
I click it very fast
Mmm yes
How many times will i see people saying this
That my friend is facts lol
Bfbcbxnxj to be a part of this is that you are
Was that a *rhyme?*
Yes, I'm so happy you are doing this, I love Smokey and the Bandit! How boutcha' Bandit, you got your ears on son?
Snowman...you go yo ears on son ? Come back... This is by far my favorite mod showcase truck ever. Huge smiles from me thanks Jeff !
Jeff just cruising like a boss
Oh shit you hit 1 million congrats man very well deserved
Nice! Whoever did the sound for engine did a good job. Detroit's always sounded like they were about ready to blow thier cookies.
"Keep 'er wound up to around 90! I'm 10-10 on the side."
Still one of my favorite car movies; one of a select few that I've bought on just about every format due to wearing them out (!), and another one of those that they flat out could not make today due to the ever so lovely p.c. overlords.
Some of the Detroit Diesels have that trademark sound as they're two strokes. Sound great to these ears, but I'm bias I suppose.
Add: When you get a few free moments, look up Screaming Jimmy Detroit Diesel from Deboss Garage. It's hilarious towards the end and probably a retro 90s music moment.
Youve got To admit, we'd all watch the piss out of a remake with a Camaro and a newer truck. Even through the second and third don't even compare to the original
@@astrum_nauta You know, I started to get hopeful when those Camaro Trans Am conversion cars started gaining a lot of traction, but nothing ever really came of it. Bit of a shame that the cameo potential is gone too. But much agreed, out of all the crap they've rebooted from the 80s with little luck, that could be a good one with 25% effort.
Ya i mean i loved origenal and 2 and 3.
But yes i dont think ive seen a remake just the 3 orginel movies in smoke and the bandit pursute pack.
@@tsunsu I know im just saying it would be cool if there was a remake
@@astrum_nauta i supose it could idk tho.
Thank you so much for doing Smokey and the Bandit
I love how you look to us for ideas! Because at the end it's your viewers you car about and I appreciate that! Keep your ideas and ours coming! To those that criticize him asking his viewers for ideas go kick rocks! He cares about his viewers and if you don't like it find a channel where they don't care about their viewers and let Jeff keep entertaining us how he best does it!
Dont worry about that ol Jimmy Jeff, they all sound that way. They sound like they are turning a million RPM because they are a 2 stroke, thus they are firing on every stroke up unlike a conventional 4 stroke diesel. They have a great, unique sound, make good power, are fairly lightweight compared to other designs of the time, and are pretty reliable and easy to work on. Always my favorite to drive lol. They dont like being lugged down though so keep her wound tight so you can keep it in its narrow power band, and make sure to take extra oil with you. If a Driptroit isnt leaking at least a lil bit of oil, then it doesnt have any lol. Great video!
Yeah that’s definitely a 2 stroke Detroit. That’s how almost all 2 strokes sounded like
@Justin Clayton what tree mod is Jeff using?
I had a feeling this was coming. Love this movie and the convoy truck
Never heard a Detroit diesel wind that hard in the final gear,so I would say it's a low gear ratio issue in that truck causing the ole' two stroke to be wound to the gills. Cool vid and thanks for sharing a legend truck Jeff!!
Tim Freeman I love this mod so much! I’ve hauled so much with that w900 mod.
@@RyanDutchak Hopefully,I can get into American Truck SImulator. It looks amazing!
Tim Freeman it is. You just gotta have a decent pc and know how to mod the game. (The non steam mods)
Great video Jeff!
Great video Jeff, really enjoyed this one. One of my favorite movies. R.I.P *Bandit* Hope you had a great weekend.
When he starts driving the truck all I hear is east bound and down lol 😂
Good ol' screamin' Jimmy. It's a two stroke, so it sounds like it's running at twice its actual speed.
A lot of ATS players will try to get this mod and do their own Bandit run... of course the ideal cargo for this trailer is ... a full load of beer! Keep on trucking, eastbound and down!
the old two stroke detroit sounded that way it sounds like a 8v71 detroit
That is so cool!!
I love The Smokey and the Bandit
Me to it was my favorite movie sires.
My eyes blow out of my head when I saw you made a video on it!!!
Drove a 74 KW same motor wit a 5 and 5 two stick lol loved it
That gear box looks sick
The engine at 60 mph: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a two-stroke *Detroit Diesel 12V-71!* What did you expect?
There will never be an internal combustion engine sound as good as a buzzin dozen!!!!
@@brucewayne9300 Personally, I think a *FOUR-stroke diesel* engine (i.e., a custom-built *Caterpillar 8CT-15 twin-turbocharged V8 diesel engine* with a computer chip) ...would sound better than the two-stroke Detroits.
as a Washington native, i definitely enjoy watching these runs
Outstanding! My favourite 'famous' truck!
Crazy how spot on that Spokane map is
I am so excited for Utah, can't wait to see it on Jeffs channel
if ya didn't know detroit's were 2 strokes so they sounded like they were running twice the rpm. And they were the first diesel engine to have common rail fuel injection the only down side was they would run away very easily after sitting for a couple years !
hope this info helps. btw love all the vids you make!
This is the exact reason why we have *FOUR-stroke TURBO-diesel straight-6's* in semi-trucks today (although I'd much rather them be a *V8* since the 1980's).
Jeff, you finally done did it, and I am so happy
Great vid! EDIT:just a thought if you could make another video on an off-roading logging run, I really liked that one
Jeff the reason that Detroit is so much louder is because it’s an old Detroit 2 stroke diesel. That’s how they used to roll back in the day, but god damn they were loud motors!
21:00 good ole knight rider trailer 👀
Hey Jeff, Good run would be Sealand port of Seattle Wa to Port Angeles Wa..
They should add the actual Atlanta to Texaracana and back again run
Enjoy as always Jeff. Really good seeing the Smokey and the Bandit Truck! Also I do the same thing. Use comments for idea's/Inspiration. Outside/others ideas and suggestions sometimes make something just that much more greater :). Keep up the good work brother. OOOHHH NOICE!
The old two stroke Detroits are loud. You’d rev them to about 2k before a gear change was made and bog them down when down shifting. It’s a classic engine.
Cool video I actually got to start the replica truck at Jerry Reed's last tribute I'm in the Band and I played bass for Jerry Reed for 8 years I wish I had the simulator. And I think the original motor in that truck was a caterpillar with a 13 speed transmission
If there's ever a Maximum Overdrive Green Goblin truck I'd love to see that showcased.
YES! I have seen this movie tons of times! Great job!
Yasss!!!! I knew it!!! Gorgeous truck and such a timeless classic movie
Holy the set up you have is my dream set up
I love those old Screaming Jimmys. Detroit 2 strokes sound like that because every time the Pistons come up it fires the injectors so you get 2× the explosions per cylinder when compared to "normal" (4 stroke) engines
Beau Daunoy Sounds nothing like a 2 stroke
@@HJZ75driver look up a video of a Detroit 2 stroke
Beau Daunoy 🤣He wasnt driving it properly at the start. Hence why i said what i did
@@HJZ75driver true that you got to wind those old Detroits out
Nah! You'll *use more fuel* that way.
For my semi truck, I'd go with a custom-built high-output *Cummins 8VSX15/T 14.8L FOUR-stroke V8 twin-turbo diesel engine* hooked up to the *Eaton Fuller 18-speed automatic transmission.*
That truck is so cool 😍my no1 favourite 😍love this episode 😊
The engine used in the movie truck was actually a cummins...as for the engine here sounding like its working hard in low gears thats actually due to Detroits of that era were 2 stroke motors so after a certain rpm the engine rev was just wide open because both intake and exhaust valves where open at the same time
That's awesome my absolute favourite truck great job 👍🏻😊
There's a wicked cool little Mercedes truck I've been using for a while now, I think you'd enjoy it, believe the truck is called a LP331, tiny little cab over but the model is superb
This truck sounds awesome.
That's just the nature of a Detroit Diesel. There's a reason people called em screaming jimmys. Also I really like your wreckfest videos
9:35 Good god I was ready to see that engine throw a rod
Now we need it to be in mp and someone in a trans-am. Perfect couple!!
I wish 395 was that short. It seems like the longest part of my drives back from Spokane.
Nice video Jeff and a HELLO from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️
Glad you like the model, believe it or not it was modeled 9 years ago.
You should have went from Texas to Atlanta, would have made the "Smokey and the Bandit" experience even better!
Congrats Mr. Favignano, you have passed your road test
Dat Sumbich! Good stuff again Jeff!
**Sumbitch* ("Son of a bitch")
About the Detroit Diesel engine that's in your '74 Kenworth (8V-71, 12V-71, etc.), it's a 2-stroke engine, which makes it sound like it's about to grenade itself. And it does have a killer sounding Jake brake.
**FOUR-stroke*
keep the good work up Jeff
I think Snowman's truck probably had a Cat engine in it, but not completely sure. Love what you do my friend keep on keeping on
That's a big 10-4 good buddy
I love the American truck sim videos u make and I have a favor u dont have to do it but I was wondering if u can make a tutorial of how u got the modded profile in truck sim because I've been having troubles and I thought I would go to u for help
Yes back in the day you would go high in the R’s, now a days like on my truck 67 mph is 1,300 rpm. Today’s truck is designed to run at a lower rpm. And no not all Detroit’s are loud, not mine at least, but I only have a little DD15 engine. And I’m glad to see the traffic discombobulations are pretty true to real life. And not being critical, but it’s not a blind drop the correct terminology is blind side back ( not being critical, just saying ) and your blind sides are very nicely done btw.
The original trucks used in the movie had Caterpillar 1693s, as evidenced by Jerry Reed's wearing of a CAT Diesel Power ball cap.
Hey Jeff! I did this drop a few hours ago when I played, and that was a hard back in! I ended up u-turning like you did, but I had to do some finagling to get it just right!
About damn time jeff.
Good Ol 8V71 Detroit. Awesome.
I love Smokey and the bandit
Should be picking up a load of Coors lol
Eastbound down loaded up and Truckin
Snowman! Oh man my childhood lol
I wish i could drivfe one. Of these simulators, 27 years actual driving experience, i would have some fun.
Smokey and the bandit love it that's my favorite movie love it
Great video Jeff love the truck
I love that he did this but i would love for him to do the smokey and the bandit intro
the old day yes the Detroit engine was like that. back then gear wasn't meant for high speed but more for pulling at lower speed. load of pallets is roughly 32k-34k ibs. and always may sure you start in right gear lol. been there and stalled my own Semi.
This truck sounds like something from the Arma days 😂 good video man. When I get bored, I get the ol’ greyhound bus out and go from one side or the other. Or the scenic route.
Lance Bardstrom would look excellent driving this semi. It fits him perfectly. I would love to see him give the D.O.T. officers a lot of problems.
For those that don't understand that's a 2 stroke most engines are 4 stroke, in a 4 stroke it fires every other time the piston is at top dead center, in a 2 stroke it fires every time the piston is at top dead center. So the 2 stroke fires the same number of times at 1000 rpms as a 4 stroke counter part at 2000 rpms. more or less.
Sounds like the old two stroke diesels which is probably what they used in the W900A
[0:45] It *IS* a *Detroit Diesel,* like you said.
But it's a *TWO-stroke engine* (likely the *12V-71* or something), so of course it sounds like you're revving at twice the RPM *(revolutions per minute).*
It would be cool to see a Western Star Truck, keep up the good work Jeff love the Videos!
One of my favorite movies.
That my favorite truck great video love ur work keep up the good work
This game is the best to chill.
Jeff you should try the new addition to the Vive la France DLC in ETS2 1.36 beta. Corsica is a fantastic drive. And you can try the new Renault T as well.
Damn nice truck jeff. Damn nice
Jeff you're the meaning in my life you're the inspiration. Love u boo!!! ;-)
The traffic jam at the beginning would have been the perfect scenario for the shotty in the cab!!! I bet traffic would have let you in then!
Been an 18 wheeler yes going to Fort Worth and back with my dad
