    Bucktooth did this against me on a 7ft bar table at the Valley Inn Sports Bar in Castro Valley , Ca.... I had no ideal what had happened untill someone with years more experience then me told me what happened at the time....I actually wasn't impressed because I didn't know that I witnessed a rarely attempted and even more rarely executed pool shot.... I later on was lucky to watch Jeff Pervis(another locally raised talent practice the trick shot version of the shot by pocketing an object ball place inside a triangle rack for the break.... Something he repeatedly did although I didn't try to gleam any info on that as I hadn't even began jumping over an edge of an ball will the cue at that point so I didn't want to take away my focus on the tournament match I was playing anyways...
    It was quite amazing to see this shot in that situation as compared to my 1st time.... something that happened in crowded loud atmosphere with no expectations of anything amazing about to unfurl or from my sitting position...a need for it as Bucktooth someone most of the players as well as the bar owner advised me to watch his greatness displayed before me... I didn't know much about billards... other then Willie Moscconi and Minnesota Fats... This was year 2000 and Bucktooth was in his prime in early 70's. Most, like me, never heard of him. The other great players did because gambling was where all the rewards were and can still be had even today though the venues if past are nearly all closed including the room Bucktooth had in Castro Valley, Ca ...

    I was on the road with alex in 1997 and I actually hit this shot in the vnea championships. Only it was on the 8 ball and I had to jump over an opponent's ball ,land on the 8 and have the 8 jump over another ball 6 inches in front of it. Alex and I used to clip balls frozen on the back of balls to pocket them as well. This was even before jump cues existed. Alex was always a beast. We would go into any pool room and because we were only kids that didn't even look our age or old enough to be in a pool hall we always walked out with heavier pockets.

    When I learned to shoot pool, this type of shot did not exist! The place I played in New York City, did not allow jumpshots for fear that the cloth would be ripped. So, old school, we learned kicking and safety play, that was hard enough. Today, with players able to jump balls, takes away a good part of the safety game! Even now in snooker, players have learned how to jump their cue ball, run it down the top of the rail and drop it into a pocket. Really a great looking shot, but takes so much out of the game.

    • @hang-the-93
      @hang-the-93 4 года назад

      Robert Steiner Not allowing jumping in a pool hall is not the same as what this shot is, nor is it the same as using short jump cues which is what it sounds like you are talking about. People often bundle jumping and jump cues in the same category and they are not. Jumping with a full cue is not that easy and has been done for many decades.

      Those types of shots have been around for years, once you know how the balls react it just takes a bit of thinking to apply it in a game. Like using the back of the pocket to bounce back to table or bank off a point, etc...

    • @robkitchen5344
      @robkitchen5344 3 года назад

      My knowledge goes back to the early 70's to a professional player named Bucktooth. He played in those Stardust Casino event's back then so a Google search should reveal his actual giving name but I met him in 2000 and he claimed to have made this shot famous... If you didn't already know
      ..this is a last resort type of shot due to difficulty as well as controlling the cue ball for position of next shot...despite what the comment section says about mastering this shot 1st attempt... the absence of seeing it executed even once on ESPN let alone on many occasions should reveal how hard it is and percentages are favored towards a safety them this.... I didn't see Alex's match but I can guess it came early ...with a commanding lead or when very much solidly defeated by several number of game behind and just playing to the crowd...
      Maybe I'm wrong

  • @tarlkudrick1174
    @tarlkudrick1174 4 года назад +1

    It should be noted Alex is using a jump/break cue and Rollie's got a Predator shaft (or something a lot like it, based on the markings). The j/b cue jumps much more easily than the low-deflection Predator/Predator-like shaft. So in a way, Rollie had an even harder job than Alex.
