January 26th 2023. One of the first things I did today was listen to this song. As a white Australian with British/ Scottish heritage this song really opened my eyes to the issue and got me to see the date from the Indigenous people's perspective. Today I'll be staying home. No celebrations. Nothing special. The date has to change. March 8th does sound like a good day. Thanks A.B for this song even years later. It's still deep as ever.
That is great! If you can, next year I highly recommend going to a march in support of First Nations perspectives surrounding Jan 26 if you are nearby one. You'll learn lots from local Elders and Aboriginal leaders and also get to witness some rich cultural ceremonies.
Same. Australia Day should be January the 1st, then when they signed the papers. You're bang on, great song!
Look at kobie dee still standing, trust me it will hit hard!!
I witnessed Briggs singing this in the Sydney Opera House, cried my eyes out because the significance wasn't lost on me. 4+ years since this song came out and it's still relevant and as deadly as ever.

@@Br-sy9vi No way, it was a very personal moment: I cried in remembrance for a Wiradjuri woman I had the privilege to get to know when I was young woman, thinking about how she would have felt about Briggs singing his songs at the Opera House. She died in 2006 and was a poet, an Indigenous activist, one of the Stolen Generations and an abuse survivor. A woman I greatly respected, may her spirit rest in peace.

This is amazing. Full respect from a kiwi across the ditch ✌ we all need to show some respect to our indigenous peoples
They show little respect to anyone else or themselves. On a greater percentile basis distributed over time than most other ethnic group. This is not said to inflame a debate just to highlight that walking tall comes from within.
best comment I seen so far much love
You sexy girl, you sexy....
Am I the only one that started reading this but then stopped and re-read it but in a kiwi accent
Kiwis are the best example to respecting the culture of land. Hakka, the national anthem in 2 languages are examples
I love this song and A.B. Original!! I'm not Aboriginal but as an Australian I feel a connection to Aboriginal culture, and I think it deserves more recognition, and praise. I love that you guys are using something like music which reaches everyone, to discuss such important topics. All the butt-hurt racist comments are disgusting. How anyone from a privileged white point of view could actually be offended by this song and video is laughable, and also shows zero empathy.
u are now an honorary lady of our culture! hahaha thanks for your thoughts/ POV i wish more Aussies would think like this.
BeTheGame 007 haha thanks 😊 that's so nice. it's all true and I think people are starting to finally realise it. you have a beautiful culture and history and it's so worth celebrating.

LYRICS
You can call it what you want
But it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Fuck that, honey
You can come and wave your flag
But it don't mean a thing to me
No, it just don't mean a thing
Fuck that, honey
You can call it what you want
But it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Fuck that, honey
You can come and wave your flag
But it don't mean a thing to me
No, it just don't mean a thing
Fuck that, honey
They said, "Hey Briggs, pick a date" (okay)
"You know, one we can celebrate" (for sure)
"Where we can come together
Talk about the weather, call that Australia Day"
I said, "How about March 8th?" (that's a good one)
And we can do it on your Nan's grave (got that bitch!)
We can piss up, piss on her face
Get lit up and burn out like Mark Skaife
They screamin' "love it or leave it" (love it!)
I got more reason to be here, if you could believe it
Won't salute a constitution or who's underneath it
Turn that flag to a noose, put a cease to your breathin'
I can't get in my whip, I get a ticket for that
I get a DWB, and that's a "Driving Whilst Black"
I turn the other cheek, I get a knife in my back
And I tell 'em it hurts, they say I overreact
So fuck that (fuck that!)
You can call it what you want
But it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
(Hey Briggs!) Fuck that, honey
You can come and wave your flag
But it don't mean a thing to me
No, it just don't mean a thing
I said celebrate the heretic anytime outside Jan. 26 (anytime)
That's the date for them suckas doin' that sucka shit (that's true!)
That's that land takin', flag wavin' attitude
Got this new Captain Cook dance to show you how to move (move it!)
How you wanna raise a flag with a rifle
To make us want to celebrate anything but survival?
Nah, you watchin' tele for The Bachelor
But wouldn't read a book about a fuckload of massacres? (what!)
I remember all the blood and what carried us (I remember)
They remember twenty recipes for lamingtons (yum)
Yeah, their ancestors got a boatride
Both mine saw them comin' until they both died
Fuck celebratin' days made of misery (fuck that)
White Oz still got the black history (that's true)
And that shirt will get you banned from the parliament
If you ain't havin' a conversation, well, then we startin' it
You can call it what you want
But it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Fuck that honey
You can come and wave your flag
But it don't mean a thing to me
No, it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Nah, it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Nah, it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Nah, it just don't mean a thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Nah, it just don't mean a
Mother-fuckin' thing
No, it just don't mean a thing
Wave it, wave it baby
Wave it, wave it (eat the flag)
Wave it, wave it mama
Wave that flaggy (wear the flag)
Wave it, wave it baby (what you gonna do?!)
Wave it, wave it (wave it baby!)
Wave it, wave it mama
Wave that flaggy
Just FYI, idk if it was a typo, but it’s Homey (or homie? Spelling isn’t my strong suit) as in homeboy. It’s not honey.😊
We need a new flag, a new song and a new date. I am so inspired by this group of artists, and the huge movement that is coming from Indigenous Australians at the moment. Seriously so awesome, and a MASSIVE population of non-Indigenous Australians support you 100%. Keep the fire alive!!!
Juat replace the jack with the aboriginal flag move the date to march 8 like he said. Then we just use the first verse of iam Australian and call it a holiday.
Mad respect Trials and Briggs from Hackham West...
How good is Australia day 🤙🤙🤙
Im sick of hearing "White people stole our country". Instantly blaming every white person on Australia Day assuming they Celebrate it as Invasion Day. YES I'm all for changing the date to the 25th? and then the 26th? Can be Remembrance day as it should be. However just because i'm a 30yo white male i'm listed as the bad guy. My family never came on the first fleet, we came as free people. I celebrate Australian culture, always have and always will. I acknowledge 2 flags, not 1. only 3% of the population have traces back to the First Fleet. Australia has changed, it wont ever go back "240 years to how it was". Europeans built the modern world, its a oxymoron that you hate it but love to live in it at the same time. So i say what should happen is this.. 1% of all GST Tax, should go to a Aboriginal Trust, this est 100billion per year would go towards schools, education, etc. I would love to see Aboriginal Languages as a Class in Every school, choose a base (most common tongue) and go from there. Australia has a Black History, im aware of this but i leave you on this note.. Its LUCK the Brits who came and settled and not the Yanks, The Americans would have turned the entire country into a Slave trade. So as a white Australian, who came from a shit upbringing, worked his way up, saved his money, explored the country, never litters. doesn't do drugs or drink heavy, IM the bad guy? What have you done to contribute to australia to make it better? I pay my taxes, i educate people, i heal, i work in a hospital giving back to the community. and like the VAST majority of white Australians we are starting to get pissed off at the constant "victim card". If you think its bad now, it will be a hell of alot worse if the immigration issue gets out of hand. 400,000 new immigrants every year and the infrastructure can not keep up. Australia needs someone like me in power. Someone who will stand up and say "No" Australia day is changing, we now have 2 official flags. 1% of all tax goes to the Aboriginal Trust. Aboriginal Languages will be taught in school. We are closing the Permanent-Resident borders for 15 years. In 15 Years i could turn this country around so much we would become totally badass.
Oright, as an ancestor of the 2nd and subsequent fleets...just saying, why can't Australia day embrace all our frickin cultures? Why can't it include acknowledgement of first nation, embrace the positives of Aussie culture and mateship, celebrate some new Aussies taking citizenship and sharing a snag or 2 on the barbie. ... we acknowledge the originals, we welcome some newbies, and we celebrate our lives...that's what it's about, not 11 boats full of petty crims being forced to come here...don't forget that, the first fleeters didn't want to be here.
If Archie Roach, as a member of the stolen generations can take pride in Australia Day honours and being, deservedly, named Australian of the year on Australia Day why can't it just stay.
Just going to leave you with this, my kid is a 7th generation Aussie on 1 side and an 8th on the other, she has black, white, and yellow in her bloodlines...she has no relatives born outside Australia since 1868...and last year at school she was told she couldn't say she came from Australia because she isn't aboriginal, so what is she and where is she from?

I must admit that I don't really like rap but I LOVE the message of this song. I always have been interested in Indigenous issues but it wasn't until I studied at it at uni that I realised how bad it was and is really and how this day is offensive to so many of our first people. Great job guys, ally for life!
Well done, you just ticked off every cliche on the list.
+Chomp Chomp are you serious ? very stereotypical of ya! you know white people do the same thing that kooris do, in fact your type brought all that bad Influence's to Australia in the first place , you really need to ask why we do the so called things that we do , it's not as easy as you think to find a job anyways considering the favoritism that the white man have, when there's jobs available. oh we will become successful, whether you clowns like it or not , I can see great things coming for my people , it's just not gonna come on a silver platter . BTW I work , I pay taxes . I earn my keep . you really need to see the big picture . do some research about the treatments of the aboriginal people's that are still being forced on our culture. free houses be fucked lofl .
I was bought up in a time when this was never bought up or taught at school Nothing,no mention at all. When i played footy had a few indigenous team mates and they were good lads but we hardly mixed and now i understand why.The govt kept us ignorant of the facts, but i know now and am on board.Great song.I will never have an Australian flag in my possesion as long as the Jack is there.Replace it with the indigenous tri colour and you have a good flaggy.I am 63 years old and should go another 30 years. All i want to see is a new flag, become a republic and racism to tone right down, you will never stop it.
Chomp Chomp - You're definitely a Pauline Hansen Supporter aren't you... You just ticked off the Typical closed minded bogan list.
I am in fact a first nations person of Australia, yes I said first nations because we are the oldest living culture in the world. You're very stereotypical, you have alcoholics, drug addicts, dole bludgers, people who destroy homes, bad parents, etc in every culture.
Before you start going of that we get free homes, get a lot of money from Centrelink, free cars, free everything you should in fact do same research. We get the same as everyone else, just check with any aboriginal.
and to beat you to the punch line of typical bogan, I am not a dole bludger, I only drink alcohol on special occasions, I have NEVER touched drugs in my life, I have completed year 12, I also do not sniff Glue or petrol. I happen to work for a living with the state Government, as do most of my family. Most aboriginals actually do right for themselves, yes a small percentage don't but like I said, it's the same in every culture. Before you open your mouth again, please get educated (but not by Pauline Hansen).
joansy1995 so whats the indigenous home loan for just aboriginals or can me a white person get it. what about aboriginal work quotas like 15% ??? how about you have some life experience before saying any thing because this does happen what about free uni for aboriginals????? but us whites have too pay . you should see the birthing suite at hospitals just for aboriginals? yeah you haven't seen that shit because you live in fairy-tale land not australia

Excellence from all involved in the song and video. 'Symbols for the Symbol minded' (George Carlin). That's him
I'm a white Australian male, and I can totally understand where you guys are coming from.
Fuck the flag, seriously who cares? It doesn't represent me, no mere piece of cloth ever can.
What does represent me is the 7,692,024 square kilometers of dirt that I call home. The same piece of dirt that you and 24 million of us also call home.
My family have been here one hundred and eighty years, not long in the grand scheme of things I know, but it's long enough for me to call this place home.
I feel a very strong connection to my home, the bush I camp in, the smell of the spring air, the change of the seasons, I don't think I could live without it.
That we can share, not the flag, but the land and the people.
Because that's what it's about.
And you know what? I don't care who you are or where you're from, if you can come here and love this land the way I do, you have just as much right to it as any of us.
(Actually I really don't know where I stand on this issue, I feel ashamed of the actions of my ancestors, but what can we do now? The land we took is now owned by the third or fourth generation who probably have just as much if not more of a connection to it than the aboriginal population who couldn't grow up there)
Mate I think you might've missed the point.
Care to explain the point then?
***** I'm aware of that, and yes people need far better education on such matters, perhaps changing the date of Australia day would be a good move. However there are some wounds that can only be healed with time, and with the stolen generation still within living memory for some, it's early days still.
+sefiam cause healing takes time, so we shouldn't deal with the issue? that's ur argument?
you've totally missed the point. Do you understand when you say that the land is now "owned" by 4th or 5th generation, you're acknowledging that at some point the land that is rightfully indigenous land was taken at some point. Hmm wonder what happened for that to take place 🤔 Some massacre and genocide perhaps?
Feeling this. Loving the album A.B. Original, I would like 01/26 to be a thankyou day to the real people. Not a flaunting day for jerks. On Australia day from now on, my family will be thankful to the original people for our home.
