I had the pleasure in 1972 at 15, to see Maynard in person. I was sitting no more than 15 ft from him in a school gymnasium. I was a trumpet player, and he was my first exposure to what it meant to be an artist. "I've Got the Spirit, MacArthur Park, and Hey Jude charts, just blew me away! I've been a fan ever since.
Wowzers! Looks like Guido Basso, Erich Traugott on lead and Arnie Chycoski on 2nd in the trumpets (not sure who the chap on 4th is) The Joe Williams songs swing like crazy. Love it! I wonder if Rob McConnell did the arrangements for these songs? There are quite a few trademark 'licks', musical devices, or orchestration techniques that I recognise from his Boss Brass LPs. The credits state Jerry Toth as arranger, but upon further investigation he was the chief arranger for the entire Parade season. He may have farmed out a few to the likes of McConnell, etc
one song after another. Everybody reading live as it should be. Old school love it! All of them just amazing. Trumpet fellas I believe Maynard was playing with a Conn Con. 38B and a JT mpc What would you say ?
Great music. That dual sax player put on a notable show. Though his artistry would seem to have no limits, it seems that MF may have reached a boundary. I never saw him play two trumpets at once.
Do disappointed The sound on my phone is barely audible. This was the era of great studio musicians in TO, just prior to the emergence of the Boss Brass. 1959-;1966.
Seems like major played the valve trombone a lot more back in these days. I love his tone on the bone. I think he had a secret desire to be better known as a trombone player!😂
Wonderful performance 👏 Vaughn 🎺

Maynard beboping on both trumpet and trombone. Fantastic!
And....Danny Boy!
Hot! Great tempo and Dynamics!!
Amazing! Maynard is just fantastic here. And this is such a great era of jazz. Thank you for posting this rare treat!
You`re welcome!
Maynard had such a beautiful tone here in the lower register!
indeed he did!
iT IS BECAUSE HE DID NOT USE A PEE SHOOTER MOUTH PIECE. I SAW HIM AT A CLINIC AND HE USED A BIG BORE, DEEP MOUTH PIECE. NO CHEATING, ALL CHPS.
This is tremendous!!!
Maynard and the band are cooking with gas. Great video.
Thanks for posting this one including the great Joe Williams….Moe Koffman playing two saxes….ouch!
sure thing!
Tommy Banks would ask, "Is that a, 'double'?".

Not Arne but Don Johnson to Maynard's left

It's weird to see Maynard with a band full of old guys. Usually they were way younger than him.
THE BOSS...
Danny Boy live, and that slide down from dub Bb at the end... wow is the word.
Great 👍
Had to have been early 60’s at the earliest. Watermelon Man wasn’t written until 1962
Another AMAZING collection of vintage MF performances. Love Joe Williams here too
How have I never heard Private Eye Blues before! What a swinging chart!
Another great one.I was waiting for MF to play trumpet and valve bone at the same time lol

Many Toronto area trumpet players ought to recognize a well-known local brass teacher sitting to Maynard's left at 24:08! RIP Don E.
Do disappointed

Thanks so much for all these great posts!

Any info on personnel / what show this was on? Thanks for posting.
"Parade" was a Canadian music/variety series that ran for five years from 1959-1964 and featured top North American musicians, singers and comedians.
Ed Bickert? And Rob McConnell!
Another found treasure.
At 8:36
some tasty valve t-bone
Great 👍
