I'm sorry, but the remake is very soulless and choppy, also that voice work sound like its done in a tin can. The original in this case has stronger art direction and smoother animation.
The artstyle kinda looks like the TV show Archer, so it's not terrible. But, like you said, the original has much better art direction and animation. I can hardly understand the voices in the remake but in the original it's clear ("You caught me off guard!!") It actually looks like they put their best effort into it in 1993, the remake looks like they sorta tried.
I hate how much this looks like a cheap mobile game. Seriously, compare this to the Ninja Warriors remake from a few years back. If you don't have the resources to do the visuals justice, just leave it be.

No I have the Johnny Turbo version. Great Arcade port with amazing screen filter options. Look I like emulators. I have a few including a Miyoo. But nothing like playing native console ports of these games
What I really hate about modern 2D games is the fact that developers think it's a good idea using way too much frames for a single animation, yeah it looks smoother but slow movement effect make them look so weird, like a flash animation. What made classic sprites so memorable was precisely the use of essential frames to make the character come alive. The more frames characters have, the more uncomfortable they feel to control, they even feel a bit heavy
Their is half baked juggling mechanics. They had plenty of time to fix the concerns of the community. I'm just glad they fixed enemies getting random invulnerability

A lot of people are commenting the bad graphics, and yeah they are right... But my gosh even the music and voice acting sound worse too in the remake, hell, the music sounds quieter in that version

I think if they re-did the animations to mesh better with the new art it would look and flow a lot better. You know it's still weird to me that G-Mode owns like a majority of Data East properties and hasn’t brought them back. Another weird thing… they’re owned by Marvelous Inc. The same people who are responsible for Senran Kagura. So you can pretty much say Makoto Mizoguchi, the characters from Night Slashers, and the girls from Senran Kagura are all owned by the same company.
People are always like "soul vs. soulless isn't a thing you're just blinded by nostalgia" and "2D hand-drawn animation always looks better." Well, try to defend THIS remake with those now, bozos.
I recommend you Night Slashers X an OpenBOR expanded version of the original arcade with extra levels and characters including Ash Williams, that one's better than the remake

Anyone else notice the boss sprites seem smaller then the original. The death animations seem to fast and there may be some gore reduction.
The death animations are too fast. In the original there was a pause and then a smooth animation to see them disintegrate

Never heard of this game, but a robot arm dude swinging mythical monster around smashing them on the floor was the most 80-90's shit ever.
The OG is an okay beat em up but it's horror themes and aesthetics give it a lot of charm.

What I noticed playing the remake is that the hit detection is all over the place. Punches that should connect miss, but obvious misses have impact.
