    I would much rather play a format with 14 decks than 3-4. Variety is the spice of life, and your ONE deck SHOULDN'T have an answer to every other deck in the format

    In the diverse format a combination of your side deck options can usually cover anything you haven’t accounted for.

    Eh, I prefer diverse formats. Sure side decking gets harder, but you can run more generic cards that hit the majority of decks in the format (Dark Ruler, Lightning Storm, etc for going second, your generic Spell/Trap removal, etc). You can also generally do well with your deck's core engine if it's tier 2 or 1. It's not an instant game over if you don't have the proper side deck, so to speak.

    • @pogmothoin21
      @pogmothoin21 Год назад +8

      Plus I imagine it's more fun to try and build a side deck that can get an edge over every deck as opposed to building the same deck everyone else is playing, right? - an MD player

      Major overlap in cards, too. Like Lancea being good agains 4 decks in the format, Nib against 2, Droll against another 2 and Sphere Mode against most.

  • @-rolyat44
    @-rolyat44 9 месяцев назад +2

    Id actually prefer an 8-12 deck format with the caveat of those decks having legitimate overlap in what they do and what they lose to. This provides the benefits of a 3-4 deck format while making there be less of a feeling of just playing against the same 3 decks all day

    I like diverse formats because they award originality. I like that Prankids' first top was without Meow and happened because players usually repeat the same counters plays with no original thought and was not ready for new deck. It has the community confused if the deck was actually good not realizing the genius was the pilot surprising his opponents.

      TOSS format is funny cause you have the faction that loves 4-deck formats saying "see, this is peak Yugioh", and then the other faction that says "y'all are acting way too nostalgic for a not-that-old format that had plenty of toxic stuff in it"

    Tournament where 1 player have 3-5 different decks and they play BO3 with different decks are interesting. It's good for entertainment because viewer can see more than 1 arctype and we can see optimum skills of the player when they forced to mastering multiple decks while facing multiple decks too. Some local team tournaments usually do this here. A team consists 3-5 player with different deck, and 1 player only play once. It's pretty fun to see how they set-up the strategy even outside of the duel.
    .
    But maybe it's scary for competitive player who only have capabilities to mastering 1 deck in every format.

    Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror. Good against the entire meta but Floo. Then we got Dark Ruler, decent against most of the meta as well. Aside from that, the other 9 isn't going to be diverse enough.

    Seeing yugioh players freaking out about a format that has as much diversity as a typical MTG format is a little wild to me.
    Like I get it, yugioh is different enough that some deck counters have to be super specific cards instead of things that can more or less counter deck types generally, it's just funny to watch.

    But playing only Dragon Ruler, Constellar, or Evilswarm was boring af.
    For me Qli, Shadoll, Satellar Knight, Burning Abyss, and maybe Yang Zing sometimes was fun af. 4-5 deck metas are the most fun, for me personally. Until Nekroz ruined the format and made me quit the game forever.

    as someone whos played competitive pokemon(singles), this doesn't compute with me. the idea resigning right away cause you draw bad seems like... a bad deck. that seems like running a team in pokemon, and realizing all the move sets and EVs suck. Seems like an issue with the deck(I get there is randomness there, but when you're playing with baby 40 card decks, it seems like you don't actually have to deal with "hope I draw a good card that lets me pop off", cause in a 7 card hand, you're drawing a little under a 5th of your deck each hand)

    • @carpedm9846
      @carpedm9846 Год назад +1

      I guess in a way they are essentially doomed to happen.
      The game's power level is increasing constantly.
      So, 2 years down the line, we will get a format with entirely new decks that eclipse the current ones.
      But, you can only release so many cards in a single set.
      So, yes, currently Tear is the goat, but in the next set or the other, we'll get new decks who will rival tear and thus equalize the playfield back to 3-4 decks. Until a deck that is part of the next 3-4 decks, at which point it will be Tier 1 or 0, until its other members catch up.
      There are ways of mitigating it, such as releasing the cards over multiple sets, so, you have maybe 3 tears now, 3 tears next set, 3 on the other, which would create a more gradual shift especially if you do the same with the others.
      Then again releasing ishizu after tear being the best deck.....kind of on the nose.

    A diverse format is the best. It encourages creativity and makes you learn to play your deck better. As opposed to a 3 deck meta that all you're doing is the same thing every game and the deck runs on autopilot. Making the coin toss the deciding factor most games.
