If someone is viewing this video and is contemplating on taking a schoolism course, do it! I went from having no knowledge of how to paint in Photoshop to doing realistic portraits that were way better than the drawings I did for my art classes in college just a semester ago. I've taken Intro to Digital Painting and the Essentials of Realism and they have really pushed me and I've seen an improvement in a months time. I would paint and draw for 8 hours at times just sucking in the knowledge like a sponge, while listening to the critiques and lectures. You WILL level up as long as you PUT in the TIME and EFFORT with the subscription.
oh heck yeah it does. we're part enviroment too a lot of people deny or don't realise that but it's truth. i noticed great improvement just being around my awesome artist friend and she didnt even talk to me i just sat next to her and we drew what the heck ever,
Very strongly agree with the idea of thinking and analysis. I've been self-teaching for over 4 years now, you absolutely have to be able to figure out what you're doing, why and how it ties into the big picture of art... and you have to brace yourself for some pretty big mistakes you're going to make because of lack of experience, it's just going to happen. Awesome interview, thank you guys as always :)
This generation is the best since we have you guys. I love listening to your stuff while I'm doing my artworks. Many times I stop believing myself but you guys are such a motivation and have given us lessons to learn. Your definitely right, there is something about the artist who is confident of what they do and what they can do or do more, even without saying.
That's so awesome to hear, thanks for your comment!! Listening to the streams when you draw seems really helpful to a lot of people, so that's great that you're keeping at it! We all go through phases where we have self doubt, but we have to keep moving forward, and find that motivation! ~ Richelle
I know its an art interview, but, I could totally just listen to this guy talk about game of thrones/song of ice & fire for an entire interview haha. Those books/show have so much good content to sink into.
I just wanted to say thank you for these podcasts. I just stumbled upon you and I am finding them so informative. Your little characters are adorable and the information is easy to understand and use. So yes! Thank you for the work you do. Please keep it up :-)
Bobby Chiu absolutely! I currently have your audiobook “ The Perfect Bait” playing and I am writing down the wisdom and advice found there, in a mini sketchbook so that I may carry it with me. I am that serious about this. And I promise, any artist I come across who is looking for advice, I will suggest your book.
It was kinda funny listening to these insights on how to be a better artist while someone is working on a painting of mama blood sucking parasite with her babies.
This video would be way better if we saw how Even works, since it´s a video about him. Although this work is good, it´s kind of strange to show something else. Even´s work and he as a person is so inspirational. It would be cool to see more of him in an interview about him... my opinion.
I skipped to around 18:00 And Oh jesus lord, he understands me. I am having this problem at the moment. I have TONS of commissions to finish etc, and im being SO LAZY. My voice in my head wont shut up! Right now im watching youtube videos when I should be sat painting on my tablet. For god sake laurence. I cant stop myself. I have no self control.
At this point I am just going to make my own job instead of seeking one. I am meeting programmers designers etc and I'm going to do the art. Its easier than going through the job application process
So what I have learned is, that you need to smack your voice until it shuts up xD Joking, great debate! Interesting and a lot of material to think about and learn from :3 Hahaha that was funny
What does Bobby recommend when taking classes? I remember he said it before. Something about watching a lesson first with out doing anything, then watch it again and do the lesson, and then do it a third time?
Though it's late but for anyone curious there are few option like the ones mention in the comment section and personally if you are feeling confident and actually have thought about doing a comic or what not you can try to publish your work at Webtoon. Starting from canvas that is,promote your work through social media and if you can get a decent number of reader there is a high chance to get editor from Webtoon reading your work. If they see potential, they will pass it over the team and if they like it, soon the editor will reach out to you and you will get some sort of interview. Then finally, if you are good enough they will accept your work and become featured which will earn you 50% of the ad revenue as long as you upload it consistently(weekly or monthly) depending on your schedule. Just be sure to have your parents permission and that's all.
I wish when you talk about people you'll write their names in the description, or even put a link to their work if possible...I'm french so it's hard for me to write in google names I don't know said by people speaking english...
Kind of late but I just saw this comment. I think it helps a ton if you are aware in the first place of what you are trying to do. Let's say you are designing a medieval character and his costume consists mostly of leather-y pieces, then it makes sense that you read about medieval clothing and how they tied it all together using leather straps, because after doing so you will be able to make more informed choices when painting. Working on a piece and studying things that you can directly apply to it afterwards will make for a more enjoyable process. It wouldn't make much sense to go and study horses if you need to draw a bird for example, since the information that you get out of studying horses will be harder to remember in the future because you are not applying it immediately from your own head. Basically, do studies with intent and the questions will come more naturally instead of forced. Hope this helps!
well a little late but you can duplicate the layer, create a layer mask on the duplicate, invert it, blurry it, and then paint white on the parts you want to reveal.
I am working many hours, like more than 8 hours per day and I have a rotating schedule. Every 4 days I have a different working schedule. Is there any chance I can take the Schoolism Course? I really want to try...
I never understood how schoolism works. Are the programs live or pre-made videos I can download? I ask this, because I can’t commit to a regular schedule right now.
I'd suggest the Schoolism Subscription then. The courses are all pre-made videos with assignments so you can do it at your own time and you have access to EVERY course on Schoolism so you can switch courses at any time. You pay $29.95 per month or $299.40 for a year
Yes! There are many free online resources (including on this channel!) that can help you get better at art. If you haven't checked out Bobby's 90MAC playlist yet, definitely check it out and try it for your daily practice😊 ~S
Chloe because the way it is currently "understood" in the collective consciousness is incredibly misguided, and focuses more on alienation than anything; until that changes people will feel like Marcus
Lol... You were so triggered by just the word "feminism", when it was mentioned in reference to another body of work, game of Thrones, by how THAT artist interpreted feminism along with a multitude of other subjects listed out, without anyone even going into the subject... And then you immediately jumped to being triggered Ohh noo the word feminism "If only you could look from another perspective..." 🤔

Thanks so much for the comment! This is how I`ve been educating myself for years now :)
Can I pay subscriptions with paypal?
Thank you Mr. Bobby Chui! I wish I found your site years ago, it's phenomenal!
I believe he said they don't accept paypal because their subscription payment isn't like using a credit card but they might change that in the future.
Sir Manifer Thank you for answering 😀
I need a friend that is a far better artist than me. Surrounding yourself with experience fosters growth.
oh heck yeah it does. we're part enviroment too a lot of people deny or don't realise that but it's truth. i noticed great improvement just being around my awesome artist friend and she didnt even talk to me i just sat next to her and we drew what the heck ever,

I like how Even thinks. He sees the world in broad terms and can condense things he learns from history and life then translate it into his art.

Even and Bobby great combo. I love that you guys tackle some deeper subject matter and the questions are almost all on point.
the art is sooooo gorgeous .. listening to this for the second time ..
Even's work is really inspiring, he seems like a smart guy too. Thanks for the great episode
Man I love these videos! Hearing artists that are doing it is inspiring.
I throughly enjoyed the interview and the drawing process. I am a product designer and this was so awesome.

what an intelligent guy! would love another podcast with him !
I'm not confident about my art at all. And that's why I stop drawing for long periods of time

You can name a milion artists after kim jung gi none of them compares to the master
Claire wendling, there is an interview of her on bobby's channel too.
Wow, It took only an hour to make this amazing painting while chatting and answering questions.
Wonderful work! Can you tell me what brushes you using for this?
Fast in slow out! I love it! ( completely opposite to the F1 though 😁)

QUESTION: do you know any good ways of making money from your artwork in high school?
Shrimp Tails Make an Instagram account, upload your art there and then open a patron account for commissions n.n
Do commissions or sell your Artwork merch on Redbubble.

I need to get physical with my inner voice, because i do feel i slack a lot, but when i draw i get in this flow and draw that i really like.
