I recently switched up my hardware vocal chain. I use the Avantone CV12 to the Avalon vt737sp to a Warm Audio wa76 to a Warm Audio Bus Comp to a Maag EQ2 to a Golden Age Project Comp2A to a Golden Age Project comp54 to a Drawmer 1974 EQ to a DBX 286 to noise gate the sound. When in Pro Tools I clean up stuff with the Fabfilter ProQ3, then to the Joe Chicarelli Vocal Strip from IK Multimedia then to the Acustica Audio Titanium 3 compressor which is an emulation of the Tube Tech cb1. Acustica Audio really captured and replicated those Tube Tech processors whole vibe and essence really well
My vocal chain at home is the Neumann TLM103 > Neve 88RLB > Stam SA76-500. I might make a video about it because I think this is one of the best TLM103 vocal chains
Great content! One of the vocal chains I commonly use for dialogue is SM7b > MEQ > LA2A. If I'm recording singers I usually add in the Blue stripe 76, so it'll be MEQ > 1179 > LA2A. I've also enjoyed using the Aston Spirit lately, relatively cheap mic and has a great tone (Plus I love the design). I mix and master top 10 podcasts (mostly true crime), 1.6B total plays.
Dua Lipas would be good to know... has a sound with good presence and saturation! Great series!!

This guys videos are a waste of time. I think he intentionally does not tell you if they use the Apollo in bypass or if they use line gain so he can get business by you sending your tracks to him. The videos are incomplete without that information.

So when you say that the 1073 is $4k you are referring to the 80 series and not the 1073 spx/dpx correct? What are the key differences between the 80 series and the newer spx/dpx units? (Besides the rack spaces they fit in)

@@sybillin3583 lol Because it costs a lot of money to buy the new versions of protools on and on and also all the vst plugins I have from either Native Instruments or Waves. Which I use more waves but I wouldn’t have to spend a buck to get all I have when all I really need is a professional way to record and protools 10 gives me that. My main sound is from my Yamaha Motif. I used that midi and then render it when I’m ready. So I have great quality sound that doesn’t age. I just can’t upgrade my system software anymore because my programs won’t work anymore lolol
One day when I make it I’ll upgrade ha

yo ab, question, im running (in order) 1073/autotune/reverb/tube tech 2/ and the disstresser, I forget the name but it sounds good but loud, running nueman 103, to uad Apollo x, with Neumann headphones... now im broke lol but ok so if I don't use the distressor, it sounds low, as I record with everything it sounds great to me, one I TRY to mix it down ad listen on the phone or speaker it sounds like too loud... I know im doing something wrong (ps learned most of this from your channel) thanks bro keep up the good work!
It’s not bad to lift gain on your vocals with the distressor or any other compressor as long as it’s transparent and the distressor and CL1B are really good at doing the job, this is what a lot of engineers do.. just don’t make it too loud. Watch out for your levels to not go over -6
Could also try to put the output knob all the way up on the preamp then work around with the gain around 30 to 40 to get a stable signal and use slight the distressor then

Yes, my experience is with the U87ai (uses K67, too), one can come relatively close to the C800g: U87ai needs quite some air boost, but the main thing - this slight midrange edge of the K67 - is there. Not though with the C100: it's too repressed in that frequency area.

Sad that Sony doesn't really care about their mics, I would more than happy to drop 5 grand for a Sony mic that is 800G's closest brother, well... I kind of did it and I'm happy with my Manley Ref mic
